:0 is that a rosewood Selmer Bbb Contra Bass Clarinet....OMG my school has one of those and i have the pleasure of playing on it for the next 2 years i was wondering if you had any tips for me i hope you respond to this
wow what beautiful tone you have. i have to disagree with everyone else, i can hear the clarinet perfectly fine even with the added music in the background. the music is a little scary in a good way.
Makes me wish I still played clarinet. I mostly played a standard Bb soprano in school, but I must admit that I really enjoyed bass, too. I don't specifically recall playing contrabass, but somehow I remember having to look around an instrument to see my sheet music, on a couple occasions.
@Icefire6324 omg youre another one of those people who bitches about opinion? yes you have your own opinion but when you say it to sound like youre better, or know what youre doing more then the video person, youre not voicing youre opinion. youre just being ignorant.
Yum yum in my tum tum thats a selmer model 41. The only completely in tune contrabass i can think of. Let alone the best sounding one by far and away. Lol selmer FTW
@IntoxicatedByBeauty9 If its a B-Flat Contrabass, then yeah it makes sense. There arent many parts for it. Now if its a E-Flat Contrabass, then finding parts for it is easy(just read tuba parts.).
What a let down of a clip. It's all smoke and mirrors and little actual clarinet. And when you DO hear it, it's obscured behind a bunch of annoying other tracks.
Make a clip showing what the actual instrument can do. Lose the rest of the unnecessary filler.
OMG, tell me you have a neckstrap or something on. Your tone quality is impressive, I have only the vaguest idea of how hard it is to maintain a nice sound with contralto. A m a z i n g.
Actually yes, I do have a neck-strap (the ones they hold from your back). Thanks for your nice words, I enjoy very much playing the contrabass clarinet (if you are curious, check my video "Himno al sol", also with contrabass clarinet).
Wow...on so many levels. This is a beautiful, and deceptively simple, piece. People, unfamiliar with the low clarinets, have no idea the amount of control it takes to produce the smooth tone that you are so adept at. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Also, I think it's great that you encourage the students who are commenting on your videos. :)
That was wonderful! You have amazing control and tone over the Contrabass. This is easily the best Contrabass video on Youtube. I'm currently playing a Bb Bass Clarinet in my high school's band, and am hopefully going to play Contrabass next year. Hopefully I can get just as good a tone out of it is you...with practice of course =)
Wow,that must take some air! Really nice tone, it sounded great! I'm a saxophone player so I don't know as much about clarinets, but that was great. When I play such low notes It's tough for me to keep them controlled and deep. Nice job again! :]
first of all you are amazing at the contrabass clarinet, i play it pretty good but nowhere as good as you, you have amazing control over the tone and its just awesome
You have excellent control and tone. I recently switched from Bb Clarinet to Bb Bass Clarinet. Do you have any tips, especially concerning embouchure?
You have a beautiful tone...I play bass clarinet and I am a sophomore in college, and I've always wanted to play contrabass...are there any pointers that you can give me for high and low notes...I would greatly appreciate it...
wow, amazing. i play bass clarinet in high school and plan to get a contrabass by sophomore/junior year of college. there is one word for contrabass clarinets: wicked. still, this is AMAZING! just wondering, does the contrabass have the same fingerings as a bass clarinet?
The composition is wonderful....as if you were wandering into some uncharted territory... Perhaps some deep underwater journey... You present amazing control for playing such a massive reed instrument. I played this myself, but never had the chance to play work like this. Seeing this made me wish to turn the clock back 10 years so I could play in high school.
I play the contrabass clarinet at my school. I was wondering if there are any good fast pieces out for a contrabass clarinet for like a solo piece? A response would be great!
Hi Williams. I'm using a Leblanc mouthpiece but it has been opened and treated in Germany. I use Vandoren 2 1/2 reeds - those go very good with my mouthpiece. My ligature is BG. To play with a stronger reed not always improve the sound - have you tried a very soft reed, like N°2? You can be surprised...thanks for asking!
i'll try those reeds out once i can afford them, i only can find contrabass reeds online and for the box of 10, it cost me about 50 dollars w/ shipping

oh by the way, i got a wierd fact, i have several silver woodwinds from the 1920-1930's that all still work, i still hav to find pads for my '36 silver military clarinet, and a couple of springs for the '23 alto sax. the '39 contra just got back from the shop from a slight leak up top.

I must say that after hearing the Contrabass Clarinet in my school band I have always wanted to try it. I currently play the Bass Clarinet and seeing this makes me want to play it all the more :D
Today I heard again this piece. I really love the atmosphere created by the electronic sounds, and the colour of the contrabass clarinet is just perfect. I hope one day to be able to play as god as you! Congratulations to Alex and Marco.
I totally wish I could play that piece...but the LeBlanc contra I'm playing on now has a few too many issues for it to be possible. Cool piece though!
I have a very old Bb Bari made in france 1925, it is a lot lighter than most bari cause of the short bell, and the keys are not protected with huge metal pieces like modern sax. Then it if it still weights around 15 pounds, I like it a lot since I play a lot on the street and used it in a marching band, so nice tone and not much heavier than a tenor. But if you get a modern bari with lower A you can add around 10 pounds.
Thanks to everyone for the great responses-- Marco does and AMAZING job with my piece and he's a superb musician! I'm so happy to have crossed paths with him.
Mmmm...no, I dont play contra alto clarinet - I think I know very little repertory for that instrument. And you, do you play contralto? Thanks for watching!
