@ItsJennaSB, just finished attempting to listen to the Glee version, and I damn near threw up in my mouth......first off that chicks voice is about 2 octaves below where it needs to be, and they messed up the tempo too by slowing it down......like ItsAnnoyingCharlie said, all their covers are an insult to the ORIGINAL artists.......
Fantastic tune but I sort of thought there was a story to it. Thanks for posting the words. What is "A&P"? In Germany, A&P (Attraktiv & Preiswert [cheap]) is the own brand of one of the chains of small grocery stores.
@Bluestockings31 Thank you. I have now discovered that "I Know What Boys Like" was also The Waitresses. I thought "oh, are they from the country that gave us Martha and the Muffins and Men Without Hats?" (and Mike Myers and 4 on the Floor) but it seems they are from Devo land Akron, Ohio...
this song is so annoying, i went to sleep for a little while and when i woke up 5 mins later i hear, merry christmas, merry christmas, merry christmas. Screw christmas. it sucks
pisses me off how 3 days before Thanksgiving you could have watched this video without a commerical, but now like magic there's a commerical before it starts......Youtube is getting too damn commericalized.
As the service grows (exponentially!) the costs of running it go up, think of how many terabytes of videos they store and serve daily. A business has to continue making money regardless - and it's the users who choose to monetize their videos, not YouTube.
I couldn't remember the name of this song or who wrote it, and I'm so glad I finally found it when I had to call my mom's cell phone to see if she knew. Of course, she did.
Opinions like the one you wrote there turn me into the grinch. I love this song, it was incredibly fun when I first heard it. But why has your brain not yet figured out there are a lot of people on this planet who have completely different taste in whatever you love at the moment. Is this really a shock to you? I comfort myself into believing that that isn't the case and you're just trying to get the 'top comment' on this video.
The 80's were original, and in my eyes, pretty cool. Now a days it's all fake. I have kids listening to rap, but not in my home. By the way, just curious, the blacks blew the scene away in the 60's. Why do they just produce noise now?
IMO the "noise" factor infected black music more since the turn of the millennium, and especially since about 2006. The ringtone and Auto-Tune have been deteriorating factors for sure, and while great African-American talents continue to try and make a living, they're increasingly either undermined by the Lil' Wayne sound's predominance (see Lupe Fiasco) or assimilated into other genres (e.g., Darius Rucker becoming a country star) with the greater integration into the general pop.
@dogkelp so it ain't just my old age? You hear it to? Tis a shame. I loved the blues, also; John lee Hooker sh*t. I hate to generalize but they got/had great talent. Such as my own race, Irish:)
Early 80s music was just plain fun. Anyone out there remember what fun was? This is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs. In December, 1996, Patty Donohue, the lead singer of the Waitresses died of lung cancer at the age of 40 after battling it for almost a year. We miss ya, Patty.
Recorded on a sultry August NYC day in 1981. The band said they really weren't in the frame of mind to record a Christmas tune, but they came up with a gem.
Yes, there's possibly a moral lesson there somewhere, it could be showing that good intentions can be ruined by trying too hard, the one time when they weren't even up for making a Christmas song they ended up actually making the very best Christmas pop song of all time, says it all really :).
@soyarra Actually it is most definitely ski. I don't think you would have found a tea shop in the US in the 80's, plus ski is the way all the covers sing it and they more than likely got the real words when they paid for the rights.
Posted the Lightorama version of this on Bookerface last Christmas Eve as the hunt went on for the murderer of a Yeates. I was Soo drunk the night of her disappearance I don't remember leaving the first bar, never mind the local and walking home. Next thing I know TV reporters are looking at me admiring, mischievously and frankly, well, Enchanted. I'm separated and had to move back with my father and he's so Mean the only heat we had was a 1960's Conway from Australia. Coldest Christmas EVER!
@Magnorion I wouldn't really describe it as a christian song. Yeah it's for a festival with christian roots but shit this is more for the newer more commercial celebrations.
