  • absolutely wank

  • it 's only art! a high dive in inconsciousness! an exorcism of torture! an understanding of love an!d compassion by an understanding of what is not love.

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • Regardless of politics...Great song!The production...wow!

  • This slideshow was well done.

  • THIS SONG WAS STOLEN BY SOME GIRLS BAND

  • by the way, the "original sawastika" is a tibetitean symbol, of power and long life if im not mistaken...hitler just swiped it...and reversed the image...

reguardless, death in june had nothing to do with nazism...

  • Never ever have I heard so many good songs from one band/musician! Every song is amazing, the lyrics are incredible. I fell even more in love when I found out that the singer is openly gay! It sort of appeals even more.

  • Will never forget that I missed their show at the Bluebird in Denver 2003-12-19.. I bought a ticket and everything. However, was wrongly accused of something I did not do, seized and locked away for weeks under the assumption that I was "insane". Most traumatic time of my life.

  • Never heard this version of Heaven Street before - I like it! This rooooaaad leads to heaven...

  • great job.. the photo's are so fitting. I didn't heaven street was in Treblinka. Thank you.. My fave DIJ song.

  • Genial ! ! !

  • das darf niemal vergessen werden , darum ein dickes Lob an DiJ ! BRavo

  • The title of the song is a reference to 'Himmelstrasse' - the 'road to heaven' in Sobibor extermination camp. It was a passageway that to led to the gas chambers which was given the title by cynical nazis gaurds.

  • very joy division-like! in a very good way

  • sadly, many who are drawn to the raw power of DiJ but aren't 'developed' will think DiJ glorifies what the nazis did to the jews...

a great song. but a series of images that could be viewed in a karmically exponential (negative) way

  • 3:39 is insane

  • Not crazy about this song. Feels contrived not creepy to me.

  • @swordofmanjushri Its not trying to be anything. Its about persecution, death, and fate.

  • I dont know, but reminds me of doom metal. Di6 is pure awesome!

  • ...aneu diakrisews!!!

  • And to think that there actually are people who insist on this song to be about idolizing the madness of the Nazis' concentration camps, neither did these people probably pay attention to the song's lyrics nor do they themselves probably have any respect or sense of piety for the dead of these dark years of Europe.

  • Our civilization is dying so who fucking hypocritic is still moaning about pics of swastika? THe biggest Holocaust ever is white self-genocide organized and manupulated by Jews!

  • @Roks17 -

Its neofolk. And Rhademanthus has it spot on.

  • Very Goth and darkwave music...

  • One of my favourites!!

    Greetings from Argentina!!

  • yeah if anyone thinks DI6 were into Nazi-isms, also realize that Douglas P is very homosexual. Last time I checked Nazi's dont really like homosexuals. Unless you count Hitler, the biggest faggot of them all.

  • woah, controversy.

    this road leads to heaven....

  • From Sobibor

  • Beautiful imagery, where are these photos taken?

  • most pictures are taken from treblinka. the lyrics also refer to this place (because the so called "heaven street" was there)

  • @oneeyedgod Yes man ,in german :Himmelschtrasse ! neverforget

  • even if douglas p. is some sort of bizarre combo of radical leftist, nazi sympathizer and homosexual...who cares?

their music and use of imagery is fucking brilliant, regardless of their controversial politics.

  • people are terrified that they're crypto-fascists or something if they just happen to like a creator of any kind who doesn't completely share their politics. it's ridiculous.

  • @evgad87 They don't have any controversial politics. /watch?v=zaNVDCufgkc For fucks sakes.

  • He also said:

"Race - this is all dung. Who guarantees for me then that in the church registers everything is properly taken down?"

but lets stop it here. i dont wanted to start a big discussion, sorry. ;)

  • If you want to read more on the subject, check my short article and interview with the Swedish DIJ cover band Down in June on my blog Swing Heil, Friedrich!

  • it is always the same on youtube nobody is able to enjoy the great Music, because there are 99% stupid comments (and this is treu for pro and anti-Nazi blah) .. Big Yawn

  • @dustinzk well, the problem is people don't post just the music....their own image hermeneutics add fuel to the already latent, potential fire

  • To call DiJ Nazis is a fuckin' Joke.. 1. Pearce played in a punk band called Crisis an they where againts nationalsozialism and where called Left-wing fascisms. 2. Pearce is Homosexual.. so he wouldn't make a good nazi hum? -.-

  • is he really homosexual?

  • absolutely, just look at the rainbow flag on the di6 page. it has also influence in his lyrics and artwork, and he talks often in interviews about it

  • Yes, he is.

  • @seigneurvoland666 Who cares abaut that that doesn't matter for me ,

  • Read something about Ernst Rohm. He was a good nazi until hitler decided to kill him. It was in june, 30.

  • Ernst Röhm was an homosexual, too.

But "good nazi" is somehow.. just wrong. He was a good human being, he turned against hitler.. read some qoutes of him. and you'll see not all "Nazis" where bad and mindless, some just had no joice anymore.... Staufenberg & Röhm for example..

  • He turned against hitler for power reasons. He was a nazi too, antisemithic, anticommunist and undemocratic. I don't wanna talk about his goodness or evilness, because he was a human being.

  • XIV - I think that when stauffenberg and rohm were in so called elite of nazi machine there was not many good people left alive. You now what I mean, how u can tolerate the shit around and stay a good human being. Anyway Stauffenberg was a deep racist he write to his wife: "those people (Poles) are mobs, most of them are jews and mixed races. Those people feels good only under the whip. Thousands of POWs will be our slaves"

  • quotes out of context are misleading whether intendedly or out of ignorance ...

  • And he still want to stole half of the Polish territory so... sorry not a good man 4 me, fuck him!

  • The whole thing is so charged that a lot of people make the mistake of assuming that everyone in the Nazi party were monstrous supervillains... Giving credence to the idea that they were human, not demons, requires people to think.

  • Phallacy that the birds don't sing in Auschwitz, the seagulls are making a camp there so the muslims can nest and procreate and face their death in a dignified manner.

  • The photographs are of Treblinka the so-called "death camp" that was actually a de-lousing station on the raillroad. No mass graves, no ash pits, no building foundations. Nothing but pure Soviet propaganda.

  • Ah, now I see that you're one of those Nazi fanboy fuckheads yourself. I guess that puts your comment in perspective. :)

  • Aerial reconnaissance photographs taken in 1944 of the Treblinka "death camp" site -- and forgotten for almost 45 years in the National Archives in Washington, DC -- cast serious doubts on the widely accepted story that it was a mass extermination center.

  • (continued...)

Even Motörhead had a swastika (an old symbol for the sun, seen on matchboxes all over India...) on their first album some 32 years ago, and who would call them nazis?

Heaven Street is one of the spookiest songs ever, yet it gives me goosebumps, 'cause I love it. I always did, and I think I have like three different versions on LP, 7" single and cassette (live).

And the slideshow? Kudos to Oneeyedgod!

  • thank you ;)

  • THE GOD BLESSES THE SINERS!

  • Lemmy's flat in LA is full of Nazi memoribilia, not saying He's a Nazi, allot of people have used the Swastika as a shock tactic and it worked now it's just a sick joke but still grabs peoples attention.

  • @Perstorp So did Siouxsie & The Banshees

  • Listening to DiJ, Current 93, Nurse with Wound, Muslimgauze, Lustmord and such in the early 80s in Sweden, I felt kind of alone...these were times without internet, without universal knowledge.

Was DiJ glorifying the SS, nazis, the Holocaust...or did they just provoke with symbols from that era, actually writing anti fascist songs?

    (to be continued...)

  • Once DiJ was the most political correct punk band of the UK. Situatied in the trotzkist parties, an ideology which emphasizes that the world would be another, if Trotzky wasn't killed by Stalin, they suddenly took on Nazi uniforms and called Death In June. It is somehow clear that they tried to attack the radical left from within. But this tactic can be dangerous. Wakeford eventually joined the National Party.

  • Most songs from the 80s tell in reality from the frustration in the radical left. But I found a break in the album "what ends when the symbols shatte". While all pre-work is dark and desperate, all music from this time are affirmative. I believe this is a result from '89 and the end of the radical left. Pierce had lost his reason to make music and realigned. Now to real nationalism (Croatia) and the Right in the darkwave culture.

  • @westenmax

oy....'real'? the right is negative death. unusefull. not shunyata. nationalism is merde de la chienne... not horse manure.

  • Classic track & great images.

  • You utter numpties. DIJ are so riddled with nazi connections from names, symbols, contacts visits its laughable that you can't see it. Doug P idolises Ernst Roehm and their lifestyles and beliefs are similar. Suggest you do some homework boys.

  • that's one point i think douglas misunderstood the role of the SA, when he really thinks they had a chance to stop hitler and change history (there's not even an evidence they planned to do this).

i am not sure, i think tony wakeford said this in the early death in june-years.

and as i said, there isn't always one point of view on names and symbols. look at joy division, they also provoked with similar things.

  • you can call me an naive idiot and things like that, but i think there are enough points for me to see death in june not as nazi-band (like supporting israel and so on)

  • Nice vid to a classic song!

  • Nice.

I like the first(?) version better of this song, but it's still great. Nice video.

  • Thanks!

Yes, the first version was from the "Heaven Street"-Single, which was more Post Punk-influenced.

I like the second version more, because it has a dark atmosphere and the part with the trumpet sounds very apocalyptical.

  • I have to agree with the darker - part, thats the reason why I like Calling (mkII) more than the original. But for some reason i prefer the first version of this song. But we have to agree this: Death In June is great.

  • I even love the second Calling record. I think it fits much better in with the lyrics.

And yes, there is no doubt to the last sentence ;)

  • Sepa DIOS por qué le ponen video, si con la canción basta.

  • i used a crappy translate-tool, so this could be false. but are you asking me why i made a clip to this song?

  • he meant that this song is so good that doesn't need a video, lol.

I love Death In June! but I don't understand why they use swastikas and stuff like that..

  • ah, okay. ^^

i don't remember where he/they used swastikas (except the cover of the "sun dogs" ep). and even then, the swastika is an ancient symbol and he is also interested in norse mythology as far as i know. he also uses runes, not in political connection.

the most controveral symbol he uses is the modified ss death's head. he took this symbol because it has an easy meaning. the sign stands for total commitment, the death's head means death, and the six under it means the sixth month

  • Yeah, I read that on some websites. But like, from so many symbols to choose, he could've chosen a different one than the head and the whipping hand, lol. At least it's my opinion.

However, their music is great, whatever symbols they use.

  • i know what you mean. but he never thought about use other symbols. even death in june would be more (or less?) popular when they never used such symbols, and hadn't ambiguous lyrics.

that's also commitment to his art, he doesn't really care what other people say he should do. ^^ and i think that's okay, he wants people to think about it

  • A darkwave gem.

  • Neo-Folk =/= Darkwave
