Thank you for the video. FF11 was truely a special and epic game. What a true MMO should be, and i fear we won't ever see the likes of it again. Even now, it has fallen from what it used to be to fit what developers thing people want.. when sadly it already was what people needed.
this is epic vid .. tyvm i remember all the old days ... kazam keys + sand'oria mission 5 ... etc
but still iam quiting this game , it has alot of good memorys and iam happy it ended with happy end with me not like WoW ... alot of kids and idiots who dont even know how to play and say brb for like 29557897 times cause his mom or his dog or cat or pizza guy .. ty m8 5 start movie
What in the world, I just watched this vid twice and am crying like I lost someone. I don't ever cry. I just picked this game back up expecting to caputre those moments only found in ffxi. The game I knew is gone. We all experienced something similar to this video, except maybe for the special whm that made this story so gut wrenching. But we all know what its like to make it throught the dunes, get the sub, make it to jueno and explore. We can't explain it to a WOW player. I just wish it still was
i never had the luxury of finding a good ls to bond with, most of them are interested in getting things done only for themselves, never really quite interested in helping anyone else get their own things, so i was solo most of the time no ls :/ whenever i need help, i shout in Jeuno or wait for someone else to bring up the same problem as me
Wow i cried when i watched this. It reminded me of an LS i once belonged to when i played. We had a similar story to this, but in the end we all drifted a part. a few of us still keep in contact and occasionally talk about the old adventuring days. :) thank you for sharing!
never played ff11, cuz i'm not a fan of mmo's, well i've never reli played before but still, i reli enjoyed this video, and i love the main final fantasy games, do u guys think i shud get ff11? i know it's online but how similar is it to normal final fantasies??
@DaRkLoRd1061 you cant compare ffxi to the other games really ffxi is online and theyre not but in a sense i guess you could say its different because you actually have friends to play with.....ive had my LS for the psat 6 years ive met most of them in real life and im glad i have done that you would have to play to understand what i mean
@DaRkLoRd1061 id wait till final fantasy xiv 2.0 next year, its out now but being redone and fixed. final fantasy xi isnt the same as it was years ago
I've been thinking about a return to XI for some time now, and this makes me miss it even more... I just may have to finally take that return trip I've been delaying.
Gonna be starting from scratch in FFXI soon with a friend of mine. Anyone who also feels like doing the same, send me a message and we can go about making a new LS and what not soon :)
Contrary to what many say, the best time i had in FFXI were my noob days. Wiping in the dunes, getting killed otw to jeuno, getting my chocobo license, riding the airship for the first time etc. After that it all becomes a repetitive task, and greed destroys most LS's.
@Caine830 very tru everything that happens in the beginning cause those are always the best moments especially the friends you meet it can even transcend into reality itself like many of my friendships have, but if you find that gr8 group of friends that you grew with and created a shell with sometimes greed never comes into the picture and if it does it never truly takes over or maybe i was just one of the lucky ones but either this game was gr8 and i believe it still is.. BEST MEMORIES EVER!!!
man i miss this game. so many memories!! ohh and i had so many friends but the one i remember most was named Darcangel from the Siren server during the years 2003-2004. the chances are slim, but if you are reading this, i hope you are all and well and happy with what you're doing in your life. i miss you :(
my boyfriend wants to play this game again...but i have a few hesitations about it...due to the fact i played the game from 2004-2010...a lot of the friends i had on the game either quit or got into an endgame linkshell and their personality changed :( i just wish it was like the old days where every camp in Valkrum Dunes was taken :) or the days where a BLM didn't have to solo.....THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
@Zimmer9951 Those WERE the days. Running to the dunes from home and trying to avoid the battering ram. . . XD Waiting for parties in Selbina and Kazham and Jeunoooo. Those are some of my greatest memories with my friends.
I stopped playing for a few years and recently came back a few months ago. I logged on to find my best bud on there still playing. The best thing about this game was always exploring and to share that with my friends I've made on here is truly priceless
I absolutely love this video and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye, due to a very dear friend of mine having quit a year ago.. we still keep in touch but i miss all my friends that have quit over the time i have played. Friends are what made the game great for me, and if I could go back to those times I gladly would. If anyone thinking of returning to the game would like a small but very friendly LS check out Shockwaves LS on Fenrir and ask any member for a pearl.
man watching this video i want ffxi to take a step back in time when the game had just began , doing quest , shouting for everything, /Shout "Raise" "can i have it " B9 x) o sometimes i just wanna play it again but dont wanna start all over
You are sadly mistaken, theres a LOT fo neat sights in 14...and I mean a LOT. thing is most of these awesome places (like the materia towers) are protected by high HIGH level mobs.
@IIEclipSeIV That Is so true... Both Jueno and Whitegate were always full of shouts about different kinds of runs and Nm hunting. Sky runs and all the other things. But now, Whitegate has died from shouts except if people do some paryting in Wajaom woodlands and Port Jeuno has become nothing but Abyssea and Abyssea Nm runs... Oh I miss the old time aswell...
yes i remember when i first started ffxi this one person helped me alot. and game seemed all full of life with friends all over the place. and there was many new things yet to witness. now i have 11 levl 90 jobs and i wud giv up all my levls just to get a glimpse of my old friends whom are either no longer in the game or do not talk. ; ; /sad
I still have and create pearls for my original shell, hoping one day the leader shall return whom introduced me to the world of Vana'Diel. Watching this has reminded me of a time we were on the ship from Selbina to Mhaura, the Pirates attacked, we joined in, all level 30... It was a fun wipe! Amazing memories or years gone by
@Dorvaine I remember those days, I still remember when my friend and I were just riding the boat back and forth for fun and we got attacked by none other than Blackbeard. "ima solo him!" I said. I was a 28WAR/14THF at the time. He was a lvl 50WHM. He just laughed and said "I bet 10k you'll get one-shotted" "you're on!" I replied. Took 2 hits from BB and a link to take me down but I still won the bet! ahh, good times.
Brings back happy memories. None of the nice shiny's, no in-game achievment felt as good as those first few exp party's back in the day. And of course, I was 5-6 years younger.
still playing ffxi, i remember my first days playing...it was exactly as you spoke of it. i miss the genuine adventure and mystery of ffxi. for you, today, i'm going to go on an adventure. no maps, no levels, no jobs, no competition. just adventure.
FFXI was by far the best game I've ever played. It was completely unique compared to any other online game. But what really set it apart from the others was the community. Everyone you met while adventuring had a story to tell, and it wasn't long before you found the people who helped make your story. Looking back on it, I had some great adventures, and above all else, some great memories on FF.
@veldross1 I played this game for 6 years duder. Back then the game was hardly about getting gear and shit. If it was back then the same as it is now, I probably wouldn't even feel sad watching this video.
It's like when you look at your old toys you played with as a kid and getting overwhelming nostalgia.
ffxi was fun at one time, it would still be fun, and in all honesty i would STILL be playing it had they not raised the level cap, it was a huge mistake, my fully loaded account will dissapear in about a month, and i wont shed a tear. ive put too many years to just say, 'here we go again!' with FFXIV. so im done SE, im done.
wow getting so nostalgic over a fucking game dude its fucking sickening. insane. Lol. its fuckig crazy how this video is still here from 4 years ago when i first saw it
idk what the hell is the big deal about Valkuurm Dunes, I must be the anti dune luck charm. I was in only 1 dunes part that didnt blow from 10 to 22. That was my first party I'm pretty sure my sister paid that daymm war from bastok to not voke the mob off of me, cause she evil and wanted to main heal when the pt started we were all lvl 15 rdm...it ended with everyone else at 18...and I was 14 rdm
i quit 2 years ago and i was on qualtzalcoatl. back when i made my first character i had no idea what to do. i wondered around bastok trying to ask for help but no one came. so i soloed to 10. then i asked on internet where to head to next and i got an answer. VALKRUM DUNES! those words haunt me today. its a horrible and dull place but believe it or not it is the place where every one makes there first ffxi friend. its like a trail. after Valkrum Dunes you can call your self a true adventurer
This makes more so much more upset when I watch it now. FFXI is not at all what it used to be. All my old friends have quit and I miss them so much. I remember playing when CoP was the new expansion and everyone had so much fun and the servers were so full. Now everything is so lonely and it makes me want to cry losing all of my old friends and reminiscing on how the game used to be.
@Erdjet My thoughts exactly...I started back when CoP was pretty much a new. Back then I had no idea what any of it was. I miss my old LS, everyone I "grew up" with in XI has quit and so have I since then...I think about going back sometimes but I know it wouldn't be the same =( At least you can keep your memories of those times! Nostalgia is a strange feeling, makes you so happy about those times and so sad that you know you can't recapture them.
@Comus182 I recently went back for a couple of months and nothing was the same, I saw a few old friends but they really lost their spirit. The game was more of a chore than an adventure. I really wish things could be like they used to but everything comes to an end and it was a good run.
GAH this is my favorite game of all time, I've tried to go back recently but just doesn't feel the same as when it started- who knows maybe I will resub >.< This still rocks
Dracionx- Cerberus no longer around after 6 years. I miss the game, the way the game was, when you could adventure and their was no real way to play the game. May the game one day return to the way it was.~
It is very sad when your friends forget how it used to be...
If you still have a low level job, pick it, go to your starting nation, listen to its music and remember how you felt the first time you played the game.
I live in Whitegate now, like almost everyone, but everytime I have the chance to go back to Windy, I can't help smiling and thinking of how it was. The reason why I loved this game, which has nothing to do with endgame, birds parties and obsessed people.
i cried hella tears. it reminds me when the game wasnt about min/maxing my stats and endgame gear. it was about getting someone to escort you and your best friend to bastok, passing through the dunes for the first time and being told "this is where the big boys play" and when i didn't need powerful slot pieces, just a leather vest because it looked cool. im such a giant man baby im still crying.. ahaha..
It was not how we played the game it was playing with some awesome friends. I recall watching this when you 1st made this & it still makes me feel sad. I too was that same WHM watching all my friends level up fast...thank you
The WHM in your video remind me of myself, I played the game for 4 years only managing to get to level 65 on DRK, but i got my AF and i was satisfied,. The majority of the game i spent adventuring, collecting maps, doing every quest that i could. All my friends knew me as the map man, as I had more maps and locations that I could teleport to than anyone I knew, even people who had 75'd multiple jobs.
i remember those old days and its a shame not too many people play these games the way they used to be played its a role playing game not a killing game its another world to start as someone else and explore i remember playing all games this way but now everyhting is too materialistic
A beautiful video, we all remember the first party, the first LS we were part of. Those memories will stay with us throughout our times as adventurers within and without the world of Vana'diel.
The tears willing rolled down the cheeks of this Elvaan. May many days of new memories come for all in the new experiences of true adventuring as we make our ways from level 1 through to 75(80).
lovely video, exploring was always fun except the dieing/delvling part, but ffxi still has friends with whom i played 3-4 years ago, im glad i grew up with some of the guys ive met
it's very beautiful story person, please reupload the video to better image, i can read it and i cried, thinking back on my days in that world, i'm going to start playing again, leviathan is my home server and Tseuee is my name, let see.... thank you for giving me a warm feeling
I can totally relate to the first 1/2 of the video. I met my best bud in the Dunes too. our trip wasn't to jeuno though; it was getting back to Sandy alive and avoiding the battering rams XD he was a RDM and i was a DRG. we camee friends quickly after. we wer always exploring places and sometimes still do to this day :D very good story though 5/5 ^^
3 years ago, I made a decision..a decision I regret to this very day. Especially after watching this video, and many others. I choose, to leave Final Fantasy XI, I choose to say tear filled goodbye's to friends I have long since lost, and may never meet again. Shiva server, Azra the Hume RDM, long gone and long forgotten. Or so I had thought, well now I'm making another decision..a decision to leave WoW and return to what for me...will always be home. I hope to make new memories.
I played FFXI for over 4 years. I had some really great friends, but slowly one by one, they all left the game. My original LS I loved so much disbanded and broke. This video hit home for me. It was not just a video game. It was a place where my friends and I shared pieces of each others lives while we had fun playing a game. I really do feel bad for people who lose sight of the joy of friendship and having fun to the lust for gil, levels and gear. Thanks for the video.
This really touched me, I wish people intake would care more about the game instead of their levels. The second I got my expansions, I began exploring, I set anon up so I wouldn't be disturbed. It's really fun getting to see the places and meet the people
I watch this from time to time. I quit FFXI a few years back. Was on Ramuh (Weeman). I tried going back a year or so ago, it just didn't feel the same. I will always have the memories of this game and the friends I made. I tried playing WoW after this, but it just never had the same feeling as this game. I hope FFXIV can bring a lot of FFXI back together and I hope it isn't a solo/WoW type MMO. Some of the best times I had was struggling grinded mobs for hours and chatting with folks in party
I watched this video a few years back and I watched it again and it still chokes me up. It's a wonderful story and there a couple of people like that I have known here and there. It's a wonderful game and I will admit I would fall in the category of people went on to the Endgame stuff and after awhile was looking for that spark I lost in my first social LS. Whoever that WHM was I am sure he/she is a wonderful person in game and also sure in real life. [/cheer] @ WHM
One of my favorite videos on YouTube because like many others, I can relate to it as well. Unfortunately, the people I started with were on Bahamut and quit playing. I am on Leviathan now with many of my real life friends, but as they update the game to increase the level cap to 99, we all seem to be losing interest in the game. I might have to write a similar story to yours, based on what happened to us.
oh god back in the days. back in the dunes i remeber my eyes gone all open because i just got 200 experience points. i thought i'd get to lvl 50 in a day :)
and the day i reached jeuno was such a joy to remember.
Final Fantasy XI is for whiney emo fag cock sucking bitches who need to get their mother fucking ass beat, I pray to god that whoever made this video dies a horrible death along with any other mother fuckers who are in ls. Suck dick you fucking cunt!!!!!!!
Games are about having fun and MMOs make it possible to enjoy them together. Player as well as game developers seem to forget that simple fact sometimes.
You RPed pretty hard but sadly I'm 100% sure everyone that went and got this game on release felt the same way....I know I couldn't pull away when I first say my taru walk through the gates in Sand'oria
this game can be so awesome when you dont spend all of your ingame time on endgame events aiming for more gear, new gear, better gear, HQ gear, more STR, more Haste... what about - more fun?
Wow this is awesome, brings back awesome memories. I have to make a short story for one of my classes and this gives me good inspiration. Also as long as i was around FFXI was awesome. I quit about half way through Aht Urgan. This was before level sync came around which just sounds stupid in my opinion. Anyway hope to see some of you in FFXIV one day! Cheers~ 75Nin,Rng, Drk Sylph Server
/cry Even today there are 100s of areas in XI I have still yet to even zone into for a brief second. This video reminds me of what I lost when I was a first timer in XI.
I remember when I got my chocobo the first time, I went to the Sanctuary of Zitah because it sounded really cool :) been to alot of places :D I love exploring, now i just need to get a chocobo again and away I will go.
Today's ffxi is a pale shadow of the game in this video. When did it fall apart? I think when Aht Urghan (FFXI 2) came out, and pretty much replaced the need for Jeuno, and any other leveling place... Then came level sync, what's the point of exploring if you can get to 75 in the dunes?
You can turn the party's level down to a minimum of ten if there's a lowbie in the party. Also applies to level cap areas. Gear is nerfed down.
This has popularized Summoner Burn parties, in which two or three SMNs plus leeches and level sync member sit in Korroloka Tunnel while someone outside the party aggros and trains EVERYTHING in the zone for the SMNs to kill with Astral Flow.
30k exp in under an hour. EXP ring glitches sometimes for more since some mobs die at the exact same time.
The cancer killing FFXI? 2005's IGE christmas sale that inflated haubys to 25million gil and made SE create the Special Task Force.
They turned a blind eye to RMT up until then, going so far as to make a statement that the RMTs in Sky were making gil because there are players who like doing nothing but make gil and sit on it. No joke.
Players quit en masse, and the game never recovered. That's dev arrogance for you; ignore the customer long enough and they'll eventually stop bugging you.
This hits far too close to home. Very touching 10*'s. I remember when i 1st joined XI with 5 real life friends. When did it become about gear and leveling and not adventuring....when?
@codezeeky There is NO shame in being a man who cries. I have lost many mates in this war on terror. I have shown bravery that would be the basis of movies and novels....and if you are one who can keep your eyes dry when they call your mate's name for roll-call 3-times with no answer at his memorial ceremony...then you are no man.
Crying for what is lost to us is a natural reaction.
@Prometheus1st are you kidding me? please don't ever compare emotional links between the loss of our service men and women in iraq and afghanistan to a pathetic emo video such as this, ever again.
I haven't seen this in 7 years. I cried =(

Wow, touching video..
I used to play this game A LOT. And all my friends are gone.
And I have memories of them.
After watching this I thought of everyone and my old LS.
And also currently in XIV.
Very good video, very sad/touching story.
Actually started to cry..

Don't worry, there's pretty much nothing to see in XIV.

You are sadly mistaken, theres a LOT fo neat sights in 14...and I mean a LOT. thing is most of these awesome places (like the materia towers) are protected by high HIGH level mobs.
AzureFayt 8 months ago
@ZKProductions1 I agree, FFXIV took the magic in FFXI and somehow made it vanish. FFXIV has nothing on FFXI.

Amazing memories or years gone by
Dorvaine 10 months ago
@Dorvaine I remember those days, I still remember when my friend and I were just riding the boat back and forth for fun and we got attacked by none other than Blackbeard. "ima solo him!" I said. I was a 28WAR/14THF at the time. He was a lvl 50WHM. He just laughed and said "I bet 10k you'll get one-shotted" "you're on!" I replied. Took 2 hits from BB and a link to take me down but I still won the bet! ahh, good times.

FFXI was by far the best game I've ever played. It was completely unique compared to any other online game. But what really set it apart from the others was the community. Everyone you met while adventuring had a story to tell, and it wasn't long before you found the people who helped make your story. Looking back on it, I had some great adventures, and above all else, some great memories on FF.

ffxi was fun at one time, it would still be fun, and in all honesty i would STILL be playing it had they not raised the level cap, it was a huge mistake, my fully loaded account will dissapear in about a month, and i wont shed a tear. ive put too many years to just say, 'here we go again!' with FFXIV. so im done SE, im done.

idk what the hell is the big deal about Valkuurm Dunes, I must be the anti dune luck charm.

Erdjet 1 year ago
@Erdjet My thoughts exactly...I started back when CoP was pretty much a new. Back then I had no idea what any of it was. I miss my old LS, everyone I "grew up" with in XI has quit and so have I since then...I think about going back sometimes but I know it wouldn't be the same =( At least you can keep your memories of those times! Nostalgia is a strange feeling, makes you so happy about those times and so sad that you know you can't recapture them.
Comus182 1 year ago
@Comus182 I recently went back for a couple of months and nothing was the same, I saw a few old friends but they really lost their spirit. The game was more of a chore than an adventure. I really wish things could be like they used to but everything comes to an end and it was a good run.

The reason why I loved this game, which has nothing to do with endgame, birds parties and obsessed people.

ladyicewolf 1 year ago 2
The WHM in your video remind me of myself, I played the game for 4 years only managing to get to level 65 on DRK, but i got my AF and i was satisfied,. The majority of the game i spent adventuring, collecting maps, doing every quest that i could. All my friends knew me as the map man, as I had more maps and locations that I could teleport to than anyone I knew, even people who had 75'd multiple jobs.

Yevmeister 1 year ago
@Yevmeister
Level sync? o.O
Dominis1978 1 year ago
You can turn the party's level down to a minimum of ten if there's a lowbie in the party. Also applies to level cap areas. Gear is nerfed down.
This has popularized Summoner Burn parties, in which two or three SMNs plus leeches and level sync member sit in Korroloka Tunnel while someone outside the party aggros and trains EVERYTHING in the zone for the SMNs to kill with Astral Flow.
30k exp in under an hour. EXP ring glitches sometimes for more since some mobs die at the exact same time.
SiegeTF 1 year ago
The cancer killing FFXI? 2005's IGE christmas sale that inflated haubys to 25million gil and made SE create the Special Task Force.
They turned a blind eye to RMT up until then, going so far as to make a statement that the RMTs in Sky were making gil because there are players who like doing nothing but make gil and sit on it. No joke.
Players quit en masse, and the game never recovered. That's dev arrogance for you; ignore the customer long enough and they'll eventually stop bugging you.

Take care.
