I bought a 1 gr bar, but it has IGR as the logo. It says "Istanbul Gold Refinery" and looks just like the ones in your video... even down to the IAR hologram on the back. It is labeled "999,9 Fine Gold". I can't find any info on the different logo though. Any ideas?
@oak415 Yes, that is him. The one with the tons of positive feedback. I don't know why he lists as if he is in America. Maybe it's so it comes up in searches better (some people may only select United States location and turn off global locations). I'm assuming that's all he's doing. But that's him and that's the IAR golds.
I bought 2 - 1 gram iar cards on ebay. I am worried they are fake.. i put them under my metal detector, and they are reading a completely different tone than my larger bars that I know are real... any imput? they look legit
@joooblooo The Istanbul Gold Refinery is a very credible refinery in the middle east. In the U.S., we only hear of refineries listed on the NY Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), COMEX Division, or the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) when in fact there are other major refineries worlwide. Check-out the Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM). Also, check-out the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), which is where the Istanbul Gold Refinery has been accredited since '07. Take only w/ Assay card!
Sorry this guy got burned but not all other sellers are fake. I was selling these bars on eBay as well after entering into a similiar relationship with a guy from Istanbul.
I rarely sell on eBay now because of the fees, but I have 100 1 gram bars left.
They are real, very hard to counterfeit and I acid tested a few when I first started buying them.
Gold is at 1395 today, looking for 1500 early next year.
@MaxAmoeba He actually mentioned all other Sellers from Turkey. So unless you are a seller from there you have nothing to worry about. On the other hand, this video was posted back in August of 2010. Ebay has really hammered down on all the shady sellers lately and so I trust buying on there almost completely.
hi kevin i purchased one of these a while back here in canada. after looking at yours i got a little worried cuz mine looks identicle but i can sorta feel the hologram..is that rite and on the back where it says 999.9 id doesnt really have the red backing to the gold numbers ...?? does that sound right to you..
Have you ever tried to sell one of those to a local dealer, or any dealer for that matter? Even as nicely as those are packaged, if a buyer is unfamiliar or unsure, they may still do an assay or even refuse the sale.
I wonder if you have a local jeweler that has an electronic test kit to do a partial assay on one of those, could be worth your while.
They do seem legit, I believe they were a refinery for a mining company originally so that's why the price is flexible. Nice products too.
@Jahkillian After looking into IAR (see their link in the description) I lost all nervousness because they are a legitimate (and large) mint. Compared to Credit Suisse, the IAR packaging is VERY anti-counterfeit in nature. However, if these are fakes, they are the best on the globe. Plastic, foam, paper, hologram, engraved number (both card and ingot), metallic inks (red & gold)...quite an undertaking to fake these. If I were a faker, I'd do Suisse stuff (ingot in basic paper card)

I have bought and sold many of these with no issues. The largest U.S. retail bullion dealer stocks them.

Stupid question... How do you know its real if you never open the pack? Or, how do you know its as pure as its labeled?
I'm scared to start buying gold over 10 - 20 years only to find out its all fake gold.
