It is an honor to have you here Laurel Masse. Though you are not the original voice in this song as you said, it wont change our impression of you. I saw some of your videos and I think you are simply wonderful.
To Kumugtoo, Thank you. I sit corrected. To Ms. Masse, thank you for your recent post clarifying the confusion. I love your performance on "Je Voulais"! Best wishes.
Hi there! Laurel Massé here. There has been some confusion about this song over the years. The Wikipedia entry is wrong: Janis Siegel sings lead on the recording of "Chanson d'Amour". I am the lead singer on "Je Voulais", a French tune (by Michel Jonasz (Pastiche). A clip of "Je Voulais" has been posted by sergios345.
My car accident was in December 1978. I was in hospital a long time, and left MT in April 1979. Cheryl joined after that, and MT is still making great music.
This is an excellent rendition, so smooth, so like the original. We of a previous era will always remember when it became our favorite hit in 1958 (our high school grad year) by Art and Dottie Todd. Oh what a sound they had. The MT so reminds me of them, and those memorable years.
even though it is partly french and has a french ambiance.....then it should have been put into the French Charts.....but would it have been a hit there???
QUÉ LÁSTIMA QUE NUNCA SE MENCIONE A LOS AUTORES DE LAS CANCIONES.
ESTA BELLEZA DE CANCIÓN ESTÁ CANTADA AQUÍ CON MUCHA GRACIA Y PLASTICIDAD. PERO DESDE EL AÑO 1959 QUE QUIERO SABER QUIÉN ES SU AUTOR. QUIZÁ EL QUE LA SUBIÓ PODRÍA PUBLICAR SU NOMBRE. SOMOS MUCHOS A QUIENES NOS INTERESAN LOS AUTORES, SOMOS DE ELLOS. <ES LINDÍSIMA , GRACIAS. ES UN DELEITE. ¡ QUÉ CADENCIA !
@CrackerLance LOL I like this song now but what you said made me crack up laughing because that's roughly how I felt about it when it first came out years ago when I was a kid. Although I'm not sure I would have had the tech savy enough to have though of the taser part.back then :-)
Nice song. I understend the people which don't like it: they are French.
Mes amis, please understand them-they are Americans. As non French learning the your beautiful language, I don't judge them too hard. I know, the way the lead singer sais"je t'adore" is hard to hear, but please, think that is just a compliment to the French culture.
Thats right, it is Janis singing lead in all the 3 videos where this clip was sourced from. But the lead vocals in the original studio recording used in overdubbing this clip accdg to Wikipedia is Laurel Masse.
I think this quote from wikipedia explains why Janis was singing lead in the videos- "Soon after that album was recorded, during 1978, Laurel Massé was badly injured in a car accident and was replaced by Cheryl Bentyne. The line-up has remained the same since then. The taller girl in the video I presume would then be Cheryl Bentyne with Janis Seigel on lead vocals
Personally i think this song is really under rated and never got the recognition it deserved. I too loved it as a child and it has stayed with me throughout my life.
I loved this song as a child too - and It's a pleasure again to hear it today ... it is so powerful, I get a good feeling when ever it cames to the ear and to to the brain ...
This is such a classic song by a classic group . I was a kid when this came out and now a 43 yr auld guy.................still brings a lump listening to the beutifull harmonies.....this song will live for many years to come
i loved this as a child ,i cant tell where the concerts end and merge its a great job , do you have the original single version that was released , and what year was it in the top 10 in the u.k ,i only remember about april may that year ,
That singer is so hot - yum!

Boy, they are such a talented group. They do a wonderful job on this piece.
The original was on the charts for a while, but I gotta tell you...the lead singer here has a beatuful voice - such tremolo!
Koomugtoo, you did a great job with the video remix.
Thanks so much for posting.
