  • I always thought this song was about a recovering drug addict...hmm

  • This is incredibly relevant to my life right now. How does she keep predicting exactly where my thoughts and life will one day take me?

  • This video series is fucking amazing. I'm on the verge of tears.

  • This song has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. Thank you Amanda. You are a star and you are my idol. Hopefully when you come back to Australia I will be able to afford tickets to come see you. xoxoxo

  • there is no point..the only point at the end of it all is the point of a needle.

  • She's hot!

  • @ThePhoenixbitch I know, but that not the point of the song.

  • Press 8. :D

  • @diomonddragon Haha :D

  • Has anyone yet figured out who killed Amanda Palmer?

  • @cheeto55 I killed Amanda Palmer.

I have a shirt that says so.

  • I guess thats the point of it all...

  • She is so ugly, but in her ugliness, she is absolutely, stunningly, beautiful. I didn't think I'd ever hear a voice to match that of Amy Lee's, but I think I have, scratch that. I know I have.

  • @alicebakingsoda as if ..shes very purdy

  • @alicebakingsoda she's not ugly in any way

  • This song has the amazing ability to turn me into a human water fountain.

  • "And you're learning that just cause they call themselves friends doesn't mean they'll call"

  • Hey Amanda, did you write this song for me? I think you did. I quite appreciate it, thanks ;) <3

  • Living without dead time would mean to live each moment to its fullest extent. Not to be "killing time", apathetic. This is relevant to the song because Amanda is singing about someone who just stares at the wall, someone who has every colour of thread and the pattern laid out before them and no will to use the needle in their hand. This needle is the extended central metaphor for the power to change their fate. "The point of it all" is a pun on the needle and the situation.

  • @superfluousness321 The needle and the point is used for a metaphor for a lot more though. It is impossible to find just one meaning to this song in my opinion, there is just too many layers and subtle hints and metaphors in the song for that. I like finding some meanings, but remember that not everything is a metaphor either. This song is great for it ability to affect so many different people for so many reasons. I doubt just on meaning is the right one. ;)

  • Her music fucking speaks to me. I cry every time I hear this. She's so fucking brilliant.

  • hhhhmmm

  • This is probably my favorite of her more recent work. So intense. Her voice sounds... just... amazing.

  • i was listening to this on my walk home from school the other day and out of fucking nowhere, i began weeping uncontrollably.. scrunchy face and everything. i'd never experienced that before.

  • This is definitely my favourite AP song. Adore it.

  • I would say I want to be like Amanda Palmer, but that's not right. I just want to be myself as much as she can. This song always makes me so very peaceful, but so very sad.

  • Neil Gaiman is a lucky, lucky man.

  • @amazingsierra I'm not sure what to think of that couple. Too much talent. Makes me want to explode with tears of happiness and jealousy.

  • Why are all the good artists not found?! Amandas songs are amazing, you can feel what she sings its amazing!!!!!!!

  • Nice to see you again, dearie. Been a long time since the opera in Harvard Square. Personally, I think Bahstan killed ya. What a dreary, corporate, judgmental and cursed place. I escaped, yipee!

  • I think the stuff about sewing machines and thread are lyrical prestidigitation. I hear a song to a junkie in this video. Someone constantly on the nod. And wealthy. The needle is most likely actually hypodermic, I'm just doubtful it's for heroin rather than morphine. Smack is so plebian. Am I the only one thinking eyebrow comments to AFP are like pretty hair comments to Atrocity (/watch?v=Im8OwPjmc7E): missing the point? (Heh... "missing the point..." See what I did there? Shameful...)

  • I like to think I'm not the only June in the world who heard this song and thought, "Well, that's it. As if the bitch hadn't already antagonized me enough all these years. She even had to call me out."

Amanda's the only person I haven't met, that I swear has known me my entire life.

  • @nonsequar second

  • Brilliant lyrics! Amazing x

  • before i knew about AP i was looking myself at the mirror and wondered why the hell we had eyebrows, they are disgusting

then I discovered her, and those were the coolest brows i've ever seen

  • Ugh, I agree. I hate my eyebrows, but I don't have the guts to shave 'em off and do 'em like hers xD

  • then dye them or something! :)

  • Actually, eyebrows have a purpose. They catch the sweat that would otherwise roll right into our eyes making it all but impossible to see.

I don't like her eyebrowlessness (too Pink Floyd Wallish for me) but she's got gobs of talent so I don't mind a'tall. :)

  • this video has a real effect on me that i cant even describe.

  • i think you have that same affect on me..

  • really?i think about how more people are well off than others and have things just GIVEN to them.and others have to work for what they want to make something with their life "you have the needle" ..but..in all fairness. to his his own:) the music will speak to everyone in a different way.

    -june

  • This song made me cry the first time I heard it.

  • She loves someone, but can't help them

because they have the needle, so that's all that matters, after all

    Really powerful.

  • This song is very special.

  • such a beautiful video.

i love you amanda fucking palmer

  • at 3:22 "vivez sans temps mort", translates: "live without dead time". it was graffiti written on a french subway in the 60's - which actually has an extremely Existential meaning to it. Perhaps kiddos this entire album is ms. Palmer going through an existential crisis. Is she allowed to be herself or does she have to conform now to what the public demands she be? If she takes a different direction in her craft(ala U2 circa 90's w/zooropa ) will you abandon her or call her sell out?

  • Kierkegaard73 - get out much? lol.

  • No way, you've not heard? There's a very rational monkey roaming the streets, threatening all with his notebook of proofs on why God does not exist. What would I do if he cornered me and demanded that my faith was irrationally based? I fear he would never let me go, after all, I am still stuck on how the concept of having or not having "faith" is an end result of the concept of "reason". A proof both good rational atheists and non-atheists have tried ever so hard to make me understand.

  • Kierkegaard73 - Obviously you don't ;-)

  • haha touche :P

  • Am I the only one who finds using the name 'Kierkegaard' as a pseudonym to be vaguely ironic?

  • haha. Are you implying that perhaps I am an imaginary constructed youtube user for the point of producing an existence communication. I daresay, if that were the case I should surely have dubbed myself something like: Johannes the Seducer, or Judge Wilhelm, or Constantin Constantius and not the Danish translation of the English word "graveyard", - I am after all, a simple existing foolish individual who has nothing important to say :P

  • I haven't heard anyone talk like that in a while. That's wicked of you to notice that quote, and know where it came from.

I love the name, by the way.

  • beautiful song ^_^

  • My absolute favorite song on the album.

  • God, I-love-her-eyebrows! They're-so-cool! If-I-tried-to-do-that-my-parents-would-freak-out-and-it-would-take-me-hours-to-get-them-right!

  • my mom shaved mine off for me :) it isnt as hard as it seems to get them right

  • This song gives me shivers. :]

  • The lyrics are wrong that Ive looked at. At the end she says "just cuz they call themselves experts it doesnt mean sweet fuck all" and the lyrics say something totally different o_O

  • Palmer tends to sing things a couple different ways, especially phrases like that. The lyrics were probably based on a different recordings.

  • OMG.....love this song but had never seen the video. Wow.....brilliant.....

  • i want her tights : )

  • I was nearly crying by the end, it was that beautiful :(

  • I love the melody of the line ''No one can stare at the wall as good as you my baby doll''

I dont know why it just stands out and is quite sad.

  • This song is so beautiful.

  • you're Amazing!!!

  • Oh what a noble distiguished collection of fine little friends you have made.... she's got the right words for the right times... brilliant

  • has such meaning for me

  • i want to marry her, she's so fucking beautiful with a voice to match. (:

  • Maybe you just dont udnerstand them. I sure dont.

  • They are if u understand the meaning behind them. There are always meanings.

  • This song (L) :)

  • You can hear Ben Folds' influence in this...

  • This song makes me cry. It is so heart-breakingly gorgeous!

  • This is such a beautiful song, and it really reminds you of some good memories when your down. Definitely reminds me of some stronger things.

I love the song, and she looks like she genuinely means her lyrics when she sings them. I can really feel the emotion (as opposed to some pop songs of today, but let's not stoop to such levels).

Love the song. Very much love the song. <3

  • gets me through the bad times. makes my heart cry. but it helps me cope

  • I couldn't agree more... It's a touching song, and I love it!

  • i want eyebrows like that... are they painted on or are they just plucked like that? nice song, by the way : D

  • Drawn on.

  • its eyeliner. not tattooed...lol

  • They are drawn on daily to suit her mood.

  • Yeah just shaved off and painted on with liquid liner :3

  • Pure awsomeness...

  • Amanda Awesome Stockings Palmer!

  • Amanda! Totally genius! Your voice is so fragile and delicate yet strong and vulerable at the same time! My daughters have also "joined" the renaissance and spread the word about you to all thier friends, with this project and TDD! You are super brilliant and my girls absolutely adore that you are unique, talented, beautiful! They think it is super cool that you have followed your dreams and are living it! Hats off to you from deep south Texas! Amazing is all we can say about this song!

  • Fuck, Amanda, you're a genious...

  • What is the significance of the guy at the very end going down the stairs?

  • Gives me the goosebumps, its touching. Awesome. x~*Xx

  • one of my favorite AP songs

  • wow !!!!!!! she's good !!! haveto check her out.

  • I like this song.

  • that's your opinion, I respect that.

  • lolwut? This song is amazing. Listen to it again, this time to lyrics.

  • even if you can't relate to the lyrics there's no denying that this is a good song

  • i want her stockings :)

  • Me too :)

  • I love this song.

  • One of my favorite songs on the album, LOVE IT!

  • so fucking beautiful.

    i love her music.

&& i own that girl cut out

    right infront of the astronaut.

does anyone know who she is?

  • Aww i wonder where Brian is? Haven't heard/seen him in a while.Does anyone know if he's playing drums for these with her?

  • he's drumming in another band I can't recall the name though

  • Nineinch Nails

  • Brian DID do a collaberation with NIN but he is not in the band. Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV (Brian appears on tracks 19 & 22)

  • I'm pretty sure that Brian's touring with The World Inferno/Friendship Society. I hope I got the name right. Yah'.

*This is a f*cking awesome song.

  • (applause)... BRAVO.... (more applause)....

  • these socks are the coolest in existence

  • socks?

  • amazing ... simply amazing

one of my favorite songs of all time

  • This is Amanda at her very best

  • absolutely stunning.

  • amanda rocks! i just wish her vids had more views :/

  • me too,

but sometimes it's sorta nice to think of it

    as our little secret.

    All us listeners i mean.

  • i think maybe she looks a little drunk at vertain points. although maybe shes just very emotional...maybe im just sayin this cos im drunk :/

  • I think shes brilliant, talented, gorgeous, beautiful, sexy, hot and everything!!!

    haha, ONE WEEK.

  • I love the way her expression changes with the lyrics. It's like she's not just singing it, she's feeling it. You can really see her passion for her music. Very much unlike top 40 artists whose videos have generally nothing to do with the songs. Just them dancing around trying to look "sexy".

One more reason why I love Amanda Palmer.

  • Great!

  • My favourite song on the record. I'm such a sucker for hot girls with pianos.

  • I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to AP as "hot". I mean, she's gorgeous - so beautiful!, but not hot. In my opinion.
