I totally concur with torfootlass, this is the anthem of choice for my funeral. Not being mobid, but demonstrates the brilliance that we Celts are capable of. It encapsulates the very essence of what we are all about. Cannot think of a more fitting tribute as a send off. I am a Cornish Lass from grass root origin, and can appreciate and understand where Run Rig and all Scottish Celts are coming from. God bless you all, and long may we survive as a species.
When I lived in England, I played this song on the drive back to Edinburgh- home. And, now I live in the USA, I still play this song. It reminds me of Scotland and going home!
Although I am not a Scot I do have Scottish ancestry which may well account for my love of Runrig, I still cannot pronounce my favourite song of their's Sguaban Abhair, but for me that is the greatest song they ever did, but this one comes close :)
fully agree with ikkler, Donnie is the best and the most emotionallly uplifiting singer, he is in a class of his own. His singing makes my life so much more worth living. I enjoy listening to him regular, life would not be the same without his voice, the words of runrigs music and runrig as a group
this is the first time i have heard this so nice my mum died 16 years ago and i took some of her ashes home sprinkled them on the old course listening to this has made my eyes moist god bless mum i love you so much and miss you thankyou runrig
Hi, I used this song for my beloved brother.....He loved the mountains, he loved runrig and he loved scotland and i cry buckets each time I listen to it...RIP Eddie Milne...Love u so much, your sister Marie x x x
I am frightened to comment, everybody wants to get planted with this song playing,,, I unfortunately just want to be back in SCOTLAND soon from Australia, and experience all that wonderfull WARM WEATHER<,,,,,,lol
@rangers13141 Well I can tell you now. The weather is still the same. Beautiful rain all the time. And it goes slightly diagonal when the wind is behind it. NOT ALWAYS straight down as the sassenachs would have you believe. WELCOME HOME. (When you get here).
@brucey62 Dear Bruce, I can "greet" my way through more Runrig songs than I will admit to! At 54 years, I've been a fan forever. The new guy, (can't remember his name) is good, but will never be Donnie Munro! Also, in my "old age", I have only just started experimenting with a computer - you may or may not get this reply, but I was so "chuffed" to get a reply to something I wrote! Thank you x Mu x
This song reminds me of grandpa, two days before he died he said I'll never see Scotland again lass so never forget where your blood starts from be proud of it and stand by the Scots for they are the best at loyality. Hail to Scotland and grandpa Cunningham.
@purplekat6589 I would say the same thing to the close ones I would be leaving this great earth, Staying in Catalonia for many years. You can take the boy oot o Scotland but yi cani take Scotland oot the boy! (or Lass).Every country I visit us Scots are Loved every where and this makes my Job easier!!!!
Though based in the southwest I had 3 scottish grandparents... (father from the borders).... used to go up every year as a kid, still feels like a home from home all these years later and proud to wear the kilt to get married in as a mark of respect for my bloodline
@purplekat6589 never a truer word did your grampa say loyality ,friendship to , open hearted oh yes i never forget where i came from a scot in ireland miss home
To torfootlass, I know when I go I would love to be back with my love Denise, who fell for Donnie the first time she heard his voice, and she was a Yank, but with the heart of a true Celt. And I believe I was born the wrong size of the border myself. I hope you will end up together and happy.
I'm Italian, I've been some times in Scotland and seen Runrig (LochNess2007, Scone,Barrowlands and more). I understand why you Scottish people are so proud of your nation ! It's simply wonderful !
The way many may have lost Scotland has harbored a very sad feeling through the generations. Many who may not even realize their history yet. The presence of those before us is within us, as is our desire to 'go home' as the puzzle pieces come together. Runrig sings of this.
This always makes me Cry, Sitting here in Spain and thinking of my home of Scotland. I know its just aflight away but always so short a time I have to spend due to family commitments I hav eto come back here. But soon I will go back to stay !
i apologise to my good friend "firefighter gaz" cos my last comments were posted under his name! please read them and relate them back to me. respect to u pal, hope all`s well up in barrow, we all send our love. xx
i lost my father 15yrs ago this xmas. this song brings me peace & answers, and closure that helps to make sense of it all. dad i always loved, respected & idolised you and i always will. if my two sons feel half of what i feel for you then life will have been worthwhile........rest in peace, see you soon. xxxx
beautiful song gives me a lump in my throat every time i play it! should be the Highlands athem as whenever i go there this song is played and makes me feel like the Highlands should be my home not the lowlands (falkirk!)
One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard, makes me realize how I miss Scotland, i know this i am looking forward to going home. The band old and present bring there different styles, both as wonderful as each other. Keep going, hope there are many more concerts. Robbie Bruce
I'll never forget travelling from Uig to Tarbert in the 70's on the "Heb" with Runrig on board. We had a fantastic ceidhligh in the bar including a couple of tunes on the pipes. I really didn't want to reach Tarbert! Donnie was the man at the time but i've seen Bruce live as well and he's damn good. Most bands go through changes and remain in better shape than some football teams that change players!!
alba forever i love donnie please come back, you are runrig with rory and callum, and the rest of the original line up.i have seen bruce and he his not a patch on donnie, also my gran is from waternish in skye, and i have been before and it is a beautiful island, alba forever
i was also at that concert . i had been very ill at the time but still got there even though the last few steps were hard . i will never forget it . i remember runrig in the early days in the hall in portree . best days ever
was going to Florida when Donnie farewell concert at Stirling Castle bought a ticket booked hotel and my older brother saw the concert Iwas heart broken
I play this in my car when I'm driving around Virginia Beach and it takes me back to Bonnie Scotland once more... I miss my homeland sooo very much... thank you for posting this Beautiful song x
my uncle is donnies double its just a shame he dusnt sing like him coz id gi him a nugget for a tune everytime i seen him and the man wud be a rich man lol donnies far better than the replacement even tho the ozzie guys good hes just no donnie im afraid
bruce is alright but he will never replace donnie ,he is still got good vocals even now he isnt with runrig i have been to most of his gigs with his new band he is with what can i say out standing
I moved up to Scotland in 1980 and I knew i was coming home. That evening I saw Runrig on the local TV for the first time and they blew me away. They sang in Ghallic and although I didn't understand the words the energy of the music sent shivers down me.

Going Home is one of the songs which will be played at my funeral, Although I hope it will not be in the near future. As on That day I will be going home to my Sweetheart Robin who passed away 9 years ago.
@torfootlass ,,, mine aswell ... my darling 25 year old nephew was mowed down and killed leaving 2 kids aged 6 and 3 ,,, we played this at his funeral,,, listen to this all the time now ,,, love it ,,, and yes it will beplayed at my funeral ......
@torfootlass sorry for your loss. It's such an emotional and lovely song. I have very fond memories of lying in bed and hearing this song being played from my dads old record player. I will be playing it at his funeral on Wednesday.
Grandmother Helen, we wish we had gotten a chance to met and talk while we were on this plane together but now we are able to because we no longer have to follow the artificial rules that this human plane dictates. With much respect your Granddaughters Michele & Emma
I learned about this band while living in a Christian house in UK, being born in Poland and living in USA now , this band has its great original music and lyrics !
Still to this day prefer Runrig with Donnie, quite a few memories of when i lived in Skye, and he was a friend of my parents. but..... Runrig are still awesome and cant wait to see them live again tonight!
Donnie made Runrig what it is - Runrig will never be the same. A lovely man with a lovely family. Genuinely a super guy with a talent second to none. Skye knows Donnie is fab!!!!
This voice will always be the voice of Runrig. Bruce is o.k. - but Donnie is a class of its own. Donnies voice and Malcolms guitar release tears and feelings. Thanx Runrig, thanx Donnie - for all the perfect music throughout soo many years.
brilliant, still brings tears to my eyes as I can see my country every time I hear going home by Donnie. with songs like this we are still a nation together. Alba Gu Brath.
going home i wish all the cunts in labour wood go home england wood be empty and scotland wood be full of the bank loving twats . i wish we colud vote SNP and we could be part of scotland then i wood come from west yorkshire scotland all best
You should not argue and just enjoy both singers. Donnie is a great singer but he left the band 11 years ago.He would be the first to say we should all enjoy Bruce and the undubted attributes he brings to the band. Both good singers. Both very different and both singers of great quality
He is right. There is no doubt he has a brilliant but the music is paramount and it is the music and all that it brings to its listeners thats important
Left Helensburgh Scotland over 5 years ago this GREAT song does not make it any easier but I will be going home soon

One of my favourite Runrig songs, and I remember being there at the final one of the farewell concerts, just praying the rain would hold off :)

Going home......zu Hause, der Platz an dem man sich wohl fühlt. Der einem Schutz und Geborgenheit gibt. Wunderschön......LG Ingrid

They are the best. No matter with Donnie or the Bruce. Runrig means finest folkrock since 1974! Best regards from Germany.

ein-fach genial!!!

You should not argue and just enjoy both singers. Donnie is a great singer but he left the band 11 years ago.He would be the first to say we should all enjoy Bruce and the undubted attributes he brings to the band. Both good singers. Both very different and both singers of great quality

I met Donnie Munro around a year ago-
his words were,
"enjoy the music."
E421UGE 2 years ago
He is right. There is no doubt he has a brilliant but the music is paramount and it is the music and all that it brings to its listeners thats important
