I know this song was not done on the Ed Sullivan show, however i always liked it.Elvis had real good talent but had to work for it,as he would sneak into the black clubs when he was young to learn there style which he loved.[unheard of for a white southern boy back then]Then change the arrangements to suite his voice. The colonel as much as i disliked him then made Elvis a star but robbed and ruined him.
"Elvis and I are the only true American originals"- was James Brown
Little Richard said: "Elvis is God-given. There is no other explanation"
Lennon did essentially worship Elvis. As told by everyone in his youth, and when he came to American he clearly stated Elvis was the only person in the US he wanted to meet. He emulated Elvis in I Got A Woman (oh-oh-ho-ya) etc.
Most artists you mention are emulating with some innovation. James Brown and Elvis invented something new
@TrueLight55 lennon did essentially worship elvis emmmmmm WRONG he did as a boy but Elvis did something that made lennon rethink his stance on a great artist , thus he thought he was a weasle excuse me mr president i think those beatles have some !!!!!!!!!! fill in the blanks
@TrueLight55 if any thing it was sam phillips that should be given the credit of blending black ,white, indian, muontain and country music in the sun factory, his backing band were not excited about his initial talent, without phillips elvis may well be alive and still driving trucks.NOW ILL SAY IT AGAIN ELVIS CHANGE THE MUSICAL SCENE BY WHAT HE DID AND HOW HE CARRIED IT OFF HE WAS CARISMATIC YOUTHFULL SEXY AND MASCULINE DOING THINGS ON STAGE NO ONE HAD SEEN BEFORE that was his magic
@TrueLight55 think of this The King's first album was also the first example of how to cash in on a teenage craze. With Presleymania at full tilt, RCA simultaneously released a single, a four-track EP and an album, all with the same cover of Elvis in full, demented cry. They got their first million dollar album, the fans got a mix of rock-outs like 'Blue Suede Shoes', lascivious R&B and syrupy ballads. IF ELVIS WAS ALIVE TODAY HED BE ON X FACTOR, COWELL WOULD BE LOVING IT
Elvis Presley was the greatest musical pioneer of all time. (first recorded in 1954)
Buddy Holly: "None of us would have made it without Elvis"
Chuck Berry: "Elvis is the greatest that ever was, is, or ever will be" (first recorded in 1955)
Lennon: "Before Elvis there was nothing"
Before Elvis there was black music and there was white music. After Elvis there was a dynamic blend of the two, infused with a manic gospel energy...Gospel is known to be EP's #1 musical influence.
Fact...5 out of Elvis's 30 #1 hits were written or previously recorded by black artists. In fact only one was previously recorded by a black artist, Hound Dog. Big Mama's version hit #1 on R&B charts, for good reason, it was an R&B tune! Elvis' hit #1 on Country, Pop, and R&B. Why because he his genre fused Hound Dog fit no genes...but all three. Elvis's genre fusion of black and white music is what excited and mesmerized the world.
Buddy Holly: "None of us would have made it without Elvis"
@TrueLight55 there is too much shit getting flung here elvis did not merge black and white music that had already happened years before ie ledbetter, the shieks , bo carter etc and with blues taking gospel country, hill music and african roots music to create an american sound with variations .IT WAS SIMPLY ELVIS IT WAS HIM AND HIS PRESENCE HIS VOCAL DELIVERY AND VOICE HIS YOUTH AND TENACITY TO BE WHO HE WAS THATS WAS AMAZING
@deewilki He did. And u are extremely ignorant on the subject. And I don’t have time to educate u. @deewilki hey mate don't worry this idiot called one true light is a jackson fan who has the musical knowledge of a 3 year old chimp..take no notice..anyone who like jackson is not a real music lover.

I am listing several of the known greatest artists of all time agreeing in unison on his extreme greatness and superiority. I have many more! Regarding Dylan he nearly, if not truly, worshiped EP..I could put several of his quotes..he got on his knees and kissed the X where EP stood when he recorded his first song
@TrueLight55 i think some one has an unhealthy habit towards elvis read what i said mate elvis did not create anything new. he created a scene not a form of music as i said black and white were already blended together with leadbelly skip james mississippi john hurt and many others. Regarding jerry lee, you are ignorant his first recording was 1954 , Elvis was 1953/1954 also both with SUN records . you use your brain and stop bing so absolutist elvis was good but not all that.
@TrueLight55 you seem to forget many other white musicans such as carl perkings or roy orbison , jonny cash etc that were about doing the same thing in there own way ELVIS DID NOT CREATE OR BLEND CULTURES IT WAS DONE FOR HIM ( mr cowel would be his manager in modern days) as for the others they created there own music and wrote the lyrics and or music elvis did not he was a performer not a musican like the others were.
@TrueLight55 so charlie watts, brian jones, alan wilson, bob hite, jonny cash, pete seeger, all these guys are irelevent as there idols are different from mick jagger. regarding dylan he thought he was a sell out yes he did idolise him at one point but he found him out , much like dylan eventually thought john lennon was a tit ( and visa versa) .
@willpn100 What is the problem with that? We enjoy his covers and his original material. Google his massive appeal. Your campaign will never change that many opinions.
@willpn100 So what you are really saying is that some insignificant songwriter could have shaped the culture and the music business like Elvis did??? I begged a differ..
@flyinv1967 The big deal it is what we can not do nor was seen before. He was an innovating. You have an idea now how to sing it. He breathed his style into it. That is what we want. We enjoy his interpretation of music. That is the big deal or else he would not have been so popular.
Well Elvis Is "The King Of Rock-n-Roll" And Michael Jackson Was Just "King Of Pop" And Led Zepplin Um... Never Heard Any Of His Music, Sorry lol... Well How Old Is Zepplins Music??? Well He Was Metal Right?
@BunnyGibson1 Dick Clark wanted Elvis on the show, but Col. Tom Parker wanted $50,000. Clark said he would pay $5,000 to get Elvis on Bandstand. Parker replied, "$5,000 to get him on, but the extra $45,000 to get him off".
I won't get in the Elvis v. Beatles arguement, why?, greatest individual and greates group in rock & roll history, not to mention two greatest in album sales and cultural influences. We won't mention Lady GaGa or Justin Beiber 50 years from now but we'll still be talking Elvis and the Beatles.
@kaylarobertsmusic Thanks for the clarification. Anyways my point was that i wouldn't have said "stole" because many good musician cover songs. I believe this is a cover too. This was recorded first by Arthur Gunter, and not by elvis or burnette. My bad.
To quote the bass player Bill Black..."We're the only outfit in the business that takes our cue from the singer's ass". Just amazing....listen carefully to the sounds that the young women in the studio audience are making...can you imagine the impact that he had on America in 1955? People must have thought that he was from Mars!
to really appreciate this performance ,you have to hear what was being played to the white audiances at the time, only black artists really had this going on before elvis exposed it to the world. he was the only one who could have done it, i cant think of another white performer of the time who could have made it stick! he was way ahead of his time!,,,we just caught up!
@JAARNO88 Actually, false, black artists sounded nothing like this. Nothing. EP infused so much country, and a wild manic gospel energy (scholars know that gospel was in fact EP's #1 influence) the songs were unrecognizable. The music EP brought to the world was like nothing the world had ever seen. It didn't matter if he a sang a white country song or an R&B song...he delivered his unique genre fusion, that birthed a new genre, knocked the world on its ear, & changed music history forever
@JAARNO88 are you thus saying that white audiences didnot experience this form of music as they didnt see this live or that no one played this to them back in the day
Who said that to be a good singer and performer have to compose their own songs? often a great composer does not sing or transmits its song as it should be, for example artists like Mozart and Pavarotti to name a few, not be forced to touch the flute or guitar. John Lennon was a composer but did not have a great voice, and does not cease to be good, they both like Elvis were masters of what they knew to do.
Elvis he was with his prodigious voice and no one can deny that an interpreter was exceptional. One other thing to sing well interpreted, there is something that goes beyond: learning to interpret what we sing, feel, and express what we say it is not easy. Elvis's talent was his voice and his ability to convey to people.
Stop underestimating and attack only because Elvis did not write his songs, that does not detract from the opposite, with that wonderful voice that god gave Elvis explore different musical genres like few singers are able to do it, Elvis was a singer full absolutely extraordinary. Elvis the king forever!
To all those critics who don't like Elvis because "he didn't write his songs", who's your favorite actor or who's the best actor? Is it DeNiro, Brando? Guess what, DeNiro never wrote one line of the scripts he acted - but boy, could he sell it. Simple, Elvis could move people, like a great actor.
@konjunktion26 Idiot? Idiot? Who the hell are you calling an idiot? Elvis had a small library of books carried with him on tour, he was surprisingly intellectual, you, on the other hand, aren't. Elvis was corteous and charming, unlike yourself, that's why you can't get any women. Take a leaf out this great mans book you dumb shit.
You not even know one thing about me and say I am not intellectual? You don´t know that I am a student of psychology, philosophy and music. You don´t know that I wrote a book and you don´t know who I am and your "you dumb shit" I will report to the mods of YouTube so they check if your account is worth to be not erased.
@konjunktion26 Aw come on. I was just angry because I really love Elvis and you went and called him an idiot, which he just isn't. Your comment didn't really bring out the best in you, be honest. I just defend Elvis with every breath in my body, I mean't nothing by it, sure it was a derogatry comment on my behalf. The las thing I want is to create any strife among folk.
@konjunktion26 Have we settled our differences, or?... You must understand that I adore Elvis and strive to defend his character. You have to agree your comment wasn't exactly 'favourable.' I just had a horrible day and lashed out, I'm sorry guy.
I will think about it. Elvis was a victim of drugs and alcohol. And he had to much sex with to much woman. My point of view see´s in Elvis just a poor confused puppet of the industry but fans are fans. They love to enjoy their people, so enjoy this abused poor confused Elvis puppet!
@KJRA2009 I think he originated it for white people, but not in general. Black people have made most of the musical innovations in the last century in terms of "earthy" music such as blues or jazz. White people specialize in "artsy" music, such as psychedelic rock and progressive rock (drawing from avant-garde and classical music, respectively -- and each being originated from white people).
yeah! rock-a-billy at its best right here!! this is the song john lennon, used as inspiration on" run for your life" on rubber soul album. as the story goes they were rushed to finish the album and have it in stores before christmas. so he lifted a few lines of baby lets play house. to help fill the album.
@StrongHeartLives Comparing images on Google, the closest match seems to be an RCA 77D. Elvis was signed to RCA, so would seem to make sense. The fact that the "arms" of the bracket join higher up the body than most other ribbon mics, and the circular piece on the grille (remember we are seeing the rear view of the mic) seem to clinch it I think. Maybe we both need to get out more LOL.
@StrongHeartLives On further investigation, Elvis being signed to RCA is probably irrelevant. The RCA 77-D mics were the industry standard in the world of broadcasting at that time due to their quality and versatility, so the mic Elvis is using probably belonged to the TV company anyway. The "circular piece" I mentioned is the screw for adjusting the directional pattern of the mics pickup. wwwDOTcoutantDOTorgSLASHrca77dxSLASHindexDOThtml tells you everything you'd ever want to know!
Scotty Moore "hitting it" for Elvis. The great original line-up. Bill Black, the stand-up bass player and a legend in his own right, was once quoted with the following...."We're the only outfit in the business that takes it's cue from the singer's ass".
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No. The Beatles and Stones were consistantly great for year upon year. Elvis was great for the duration of the recordings he made at Sun in 1954 and 1955. After that, it was downhill.
No, the Beatles were great year after year. The stones merely aped every move the beatles ever made. The stones haven't released anything new or different in 30-40 years. Not counting their disco era.
The more interesting part about that line is that John Lennon stole it for the first line in the Beatles' song "Run For Your Life"-- he admitted it, too!
@Pianoman5623 He also said 'before Elvis there was nothing'. While watching an Elvis movie & hearing the girls in the theater screaming he said 'that's a good job!'
The original words were "Be with another man", as opposed to "Wed another man". Elvis was forced to change the lyrics for TV, etc, as "being with" hinted at living together when not married.
@cookieinbk The Beatles also had a similar phrase in '' Run for Your Life ''. A song recorded for their 1965 album ''Rubber Soul''. A nice rockabilly cover of this song is here by Robert Gordon /watch?v=IFdzUqFE-hQ
The guitar he plays in this video, the "cowhide guitar" is on display at Sun Studios in Memphis,TN. I'm a huge Elvis fan and didn't know it still existed. Almost cried when I saw it. AWESOME!
The chicks are screaming so loud you can't even hear what (I'm assuming that's Scotty Moore) he's playing!! hahah

it's not like he wrote it ?so what.he probably sang it better.whats the bid deal about somebody singing anothers song
flyinv1967 5 months ago
@flyinv1967 Some people are songwriters. Some people are singers.
Do you criticize actors who aren't scriptwriters? There are some truly great actors who wouldn't even think of writing a script.
There are some truly great singers who wouldn't even think of writing a song.
jennytmaher 5 months ago
@flyinv1967 The big deal it is what we can not do nor was seen before. He was an innovating. You have an idea now how to sing it. He breathed his style into it. That is what we want. We enjoy his interpretation of music. That is the big deal or else he would not have been so popular.

I won't get in the Elvis v. Beatles arguement, why?, greatest individual and greates group in rock & roll history, not to mention two greatest in album sales and cultural influences. We won't mention Lady GaGa or Justin Beiber 50 years from now but we'll still be talking Elvis and the Beatles.
zzremington 7 months ago 6
@kaylarobertsmusic Thanks for the clarification. Anyways my point was that i wouldn't have said "stole" because many good musician cover songs. I believe this is a cover too. This was recorded first by Arthur Gunter, and not by elvis or burnette. My bad.
MrBroadcast100 7 months ago
@Pianoman5623 well i wouldn't say "stole", besides this song is just a modified version of Johnny Burnette's "Oh Babe".
MrBroadcast100 7 months ago
@MrBroadcast100 Actually no, it's the other way round. Johnny Burnette's "Oh Baby Babe" is a modified version of Elvis's Baby Let's Play House.

JAARNO88 9 months ago 13
@JAARNO88 Actually, false, black artists sounded nothing like this. Nothing. EP infused so much country, and a wild manic gospel energy (scholars know that gospel was in fact EP's #1 influence) the songs were unrecognizable. The music EP brought to the world was like nothing the world had ever seen. It didn't matter if he a sang a white country song or an R&B song...he delivered his unique genre fusion, that birthed a new genre, knocked the world on its ear, & changed music history forever

lpmccook 10 months ago 5
Who said that to be a good singer and performer have to compose their own songs? often a great composer does not sing or transmits its song as it should be, for example artists like Mozart and Pavarotti to name a few, not be forced to touch the flute or guitar. John Lennon was a composer but did not have a great voice, and does not cease to be good, they both like Elvis were masters of what they knew to do.
Ayelenelvisita 10 months ago 3
Elvis he was with his prodigious voice and no one can deny that an interpreter was exceptional. One other thing to sing well interpreted, there is something that goes beyond: learning to interpret what we sing, feel, and express what we say it is not easy. Elvis's talent was his voice and his ability to convey to people.
Ayelenelvisita 10 months ago 2

MrElvis96 1 year ago
@MrElvis96

MrElvis96 1 year ago
@konjunktion26 Have we settled our differences, or?... You must understand that I adore Elvis and strive to defend his character. You have to agree your comment wasn't exactly 'favourable.' I just had a horrible day and lashed out, I'm sorry guy.

I will think about it. Elvis was a victim of drugs and alcohol. And he had to much sex with to much woman. My point of view see´s in Elvis just a poor confused puppet of the industry but fans are fans. They love to enjoy their people, so enjoy this abused poor confused Elvis puppet!

Elvis originated the "Rockabilly" genre, so that also makes him a rock pioneer.
KJRA2009 1 year ago
@KJRA2009 I think he originated it for white people, but not in general. Black people have made most of the musical innovations in the last century in terms of "earthy" music such as blues or jazz. White people specialize in "artsy" music, such as psychedelic rock and progressive rock (drawing from avant-garde and classical music, respectively -- and each being originated from white people).

Any musicians/producers out there that know what mic this was? I'm interested in Elvis' use of Ribbon mics. Any info on what make and model this is?
StrongHeartLives 1 year ago
@StrongHeartLives Comparing images on Google, the closest match seems to be an RCA 77D. Elvis was signed to RCA, so would seem to make sense. The fact that the "arms" of the bracket join higher up the body than most other ribbon mics, and the circular piece on the grille (remember we are seeing the rear view of the mic) seem to clinch it I think. Maybe we both need to get out more LOL.
Keymeister 1 year ago
@StrongHeartLives On further investigation, Elvis being signed to RCA is probably irrelevant. The RCA 77-D mics were the industry standard in the world of broadcasting at that time due to their quality and versatility, so the mic Elvis is using probably belonged to the TV company anyway. The "circular piece" I mentioned is the screw for adjusting the directional pattern of the mics pickup. wwwDOTcoutantDOTorgSLASHrca77dxSLASHindexDOThtml tells you everything you'd ever want to know!

No. The Beatles and Stones were consistantly great for year upon year. Elvis was great for the duration of the recordings he made at Sun in 1954 and 1955. After that, it was downhill.
guv859 1 year ago
No, the Beatles were great year after year. The stones merely aped every move the beatles ever made. The stones haven't released anything new or different in 30-40 years. Not counting their disco era.

The more interesting part about that line is that John Lennon stole it for the first line in the Beatles' song "Run For Your Life"-- he admitted it, too!

The original words were "Be with another man", as opposed to "Wed another man". Elvis was forced to change the lyrics for TV, etc, as "being with" hinted at living together when not married.
