VF84 FOREVER! The new VF103 is a sham and and insult, IMHO. Well, that being said... ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, Baby! Tomcats FOREVER! Grumman Ironworks saved MANY an ass.
interestingly enough, when VF-41 got back stateside, the "Queen of spades" artwork (by then painted over to be PG-13) was carefully peeled off the jet and framed. That artwork now resides in the curator's office at the Tulsa air and Space museum in Tulsa, OK. (the pilot that delivered our jet was CO of NTU at the time and was XO of the Black Aces during Desert Storm.)
VF-84 baby.....Wow... never thought Id see my squardon after all these years... Salute to all my fellow VF-84 brothers who served with me during these times!
I think they were all A models if i remember correctly. Been a while. Probably why we were phased out after doing a Med tour in the Box during Bosnia. I think we were decom'ed in1994 if my memory serves right. VF-84 was also a TARPS Squadron which is why we hung on as long as we did. Bill Clinton didnt help matters either though.
Bill Clinton was a fag and a draft dodger. Really sad to hear that your squadron was disestablished to early. Howcome all those squadrons like yours and VF--114, VF-21, etc were disestablished so early?
Clinton decided to down size the military. probably somewhere between some off the political train of thinking RandR (AKA.... well you know) he decided " Welp, we just dont need to defend ourselves or help anyone that is getting wiped off the face of the earth from genocide. Number one? Make it so". It's a shame cause The F-14 was a tradition to alot of us in the Navy. She sure did leak though.
Oh I see, yeah it is a damn shame. All those F-14 squadrons were awesome. But I am glad that I am talking to a former Jolly Roger pilot, I only met pilots from VF-213, VF-31, VF-51, VF-103, and VF-84. Its very rare that I meet a pilot from Tomcat squadrons 70, 80's, and 90's
Despite having a pretty active year for their last year (for not even being on the boat), VF-84 was the unfortunate ones caught ashore when it was time to downsize (if the roles had been reversed, it would've been VF-41 that would've been decommed). It didn't help that VF-84 was still flying a number of Block 95 airframes without the ECM upgrades. :( At least their legacy went on (at the chagrin of the Sluggers), many didn't even get THAT much, which sucks.

I was not a pilot in VF-84. I was a PC and then Tested out to TARPS (Tact Air Recon Pods Systems). Sorry if you thought I was a pilot.
