Wow, I just discovered this song because I was doing a report on Scarfe, the artist who made the animation for this. This was in 1977? It's way ahead of its time in both content and art style.

The music is fantastic, I enjoy every moment of it and the lyrics along with the animation makes you think about what it all means and It's been fun reading other commenters' ideas on what the idea behind it all is.

All signs of great art. I misjudged Pink Floyd by a mile to say the least...

Ok so I am such a pink floyd fan, and I remeber my father explaining alot of the songs meanings when I was a little girl, but what is the deal with the Beatle/and The Blood that comes out of the cement cone, and then rushes to the scene in the end. Also did any one think that the rocket ship leaving could also be a metephor for how pink lost his mind and how he lost contact to much of the society. Any thoughts!

@TheMelbell123 No, I don't think the rocket has anything to do with Pink because Welcome to the Machine was not part of The Wall, however it could represent Syd Barrett's insanity, but I doubt it. I believe the blood coming from the cooling tower represents the corruption in the music industry, the tower leaving shows how they leave most musicians hanging out on a line (pardon the expression). I believe the beetle represents how they exploit the aspiring artists.

@Th3DarkFunk It's all metaphorical. What may seem as random scenes have a purpose behind them. Pink Floyd is well known for being highly metaphorical. It makes people think outside the box. :)

When the rats run around on those steel girders, it represents one of those stage light scafolds. When the hands come out of the sea of blood, it represents a crowd of fans and that big block that flies away at the end represents the young rockstar. Look the song up on wikipedea and it will explain the music video, I will admit though that some of pink floyds stuff is Very metaphorical and you cant get it straight away

Bellissimo pezzo, le animazioni del video sono terrificanti, così come quelle di The Wall. Lo stimo questo Gerald Scarfe!

E poi vabene gente, i Pink Floyd sono i Pink Floyd! Questa canzone poi è particolarmente profonda: se ci pensiamo, "La macchina" non è che l' industria musicale, che vuole sempre più personaggi e sempre meno talenti... @strapiombo Sintetizza l'egemonia degli oscuri incubi di Waters, che da questo album sovrasta il gruppo, il suo tormento dell'uomo oppresso dal sistema, tema che sarà l'anima dei dischi successivi (ma che lo fu anche di Dark Side). Musicalmente uno dei suoi pezzi più grandiosi.
