@minggnim he says you have to pretension it before you insert the rope, he's not leaving anything out your just not following directions.

Thanks you!!! I had exactly the same model with a string to be replaced.

I do have a suggestion to make it easier though: After I wound the reel up as

far as it would go and aligned the holes to put the string through, I secured the reel in place with a zip tie so it wouldn't come loose while ran the string through and screwed the assembly back in place and ran the string up the mower handle. THEN I cut the zip tie and let the string get drawn in to the reel. Works great!!!
