  • Its fun watching the seated actors in this too

    My favorites are-

4:57 is Michael Ball (Marius) joking around with Quast (Javert)

7:57 on the far right you can see those two girls totally slamming into eachother

Throughout the vid you can see that even the seated cast is having so much fun with this and how close they all are, its brilliant!

  • The Thernardiers are both excellent... Plus they add a bit of much-needed humor to this. (Much-needed for me, anyway. I'd get all depressed without a couple of jokes.)

  • @snipsies1 They are the great comedic relief. I couldn't even finish the book with this - that was seriously depressing.

  • I'm a Thernardier right now, this really helped with developing character, thanks!

  • The epitomy of brilliance! Could not get a better Monsieur and Madame Thenardier!

  • my teacher showed us this in music club 2day!!!

  • the orchestra was much better here than in the 25th most of the rest was better in the 10th

  • I like the young cosette from the 25th anniversary is better.. but Madame thenadaire is brilliant :D but if that thenadaire isnt a crook, then who is ? I love this song though.. one of the more light hearted ones from the show :)

  • Jenny Galloway's performance is truly a master class

  • God, this cast is talented. Les Mis has had some absolutely brilliant actors and it must've been so hard to narrow it down for this concert. They honestly could've staged 10 concerts with all the various casts and each would be brilliant in its own way!

  • i think the woman playing madam tenardier is the same one who was in the 25th anniversary. or am i wrong?

  • @holygirl08 Its the same Lady

  • I love this! Especially the last part "Master of the house, isn't worth my spit" etc. Can't stop laughing!

  • everyone says Madame Thenardier is great, and I agree. But Monsieur Thenardier is brilliant too! :DD

  • Talk about focus..she didn't even flinch for that balloon pop

  • Madame Thenardier reminds me of my uncle daz :P

  • The big creepy man scares me.

  • I was stuck in the house for a long time as a kid, when I was injured badly and this video (castle on a cloud especially) was my escape. A-mazing

  • They're standing at microphones the whole time? =/

  • @Boozikenz it's the 10th anniversary concert not an actual performance of les miserables. If you watch the whole dvd they really do any of the dialogue either just the songs performed in costume.

  • @waori Oh okay that makes sense, thank you. =)

  • @Boozikenz sorry that should say "they don't really do any of the dialogue" :)

  • @Boozikenz well, it did say CONCERT not the show. but as for the microphones, d portable ones must've been expensive @ the time considering it was 1995

  • The ones doing the "Master of the house" were also brilliant -- no musical can be complete without such characters!!! What's their name?

  • the couple are the Thernadiers

  • Without doubt, this is one of the best performances of this song that I've ever seen.

Sad to say, but I've seen Les Mis 47 times, all over the world. And no-one trumps this pair.

  • You KNOW she's a professional if she can just continue through that loud of a bang and not skip a beat !!! Does anyone know her name?

  • Hannah Chick.

  • funny. Flinch, but keep in the part. :P

  • i thought the light blew up and that's what made the bang?

  • Yeah it was. She did a great job in keeping composed!

  • so cute and beautiful! barely flinched from the unexpected bang... xcellent cast member! ps. i am sure someones head rolled for the bang backstage!!!

  • I think British accent fits better than American.

  • I think the landlady is by far the best landlady I've seen in this.

  • i agree whole heartedly!!

  • Great Oboe line in the verses in "Master of the House."

  • "Raise it up the master's arse!"

  • what does inebriate mean?

  • I think it's basically a drunk.

  • drunken I believe

  • 1:45 XD she jumps out of her skin! But she keeps singing, brave thing. I'd scream! Wonder what made the bang?

  • Probably a balloon pre-loaded for the finale.

  • It was Madame Thernardier and her bucket, warning Cosette that shes coming.

  • Oh, makes sense. We had that in our school production (I was young Eponine- they cut me out here, even if I don't sing anything, it makes me sad!) but not till after she stops singing.

  • no actually a gun from the barricade scene misfired backstage.

  • A classic to be sure. You can't beat the original Broadway cast version of Les Miserables!

    Corruptsoul69

  • Cosette is the little girl singing 'Castle in the Cloud' in the beginning of this clip. I think she is very good!

  • Comment removed

  • who is cosette here?

  • hannah chick

  • I love this video! Alun Armstrong and Jenny Galloway are BRILLIANT! Absolutely halarious!! HE is also very good in the Masterpiece

Classics David Copperfield and The Little Dorrit. Never knew what a good singing character he was. Love the Cockney accent!!

  • i was lucky enough to see a performance by the London cast in 1991...it was amazing. i was 17 at the time and it was the most beautiful thing i had ever seen!!!! It continues to take my breath away!!!

  • The actor who does madam thenardier did very well! What is his name? I am impressed, especially considering it was cross-gender acting.

  • Thernadier was played by Alun Armstrong, and Madame Thernadier was NOT cross gender. That is Jenny Galloway who was in the replacement London cast

  • haha i didn't think so. i was like "that doesn't look like a dude!

  • Does anyone know of a site where I can download this version of Castle on a Cloud? Cause I've tried to find the concert version, but I can't find it anywhere, and none of the girls in the versions I've found can sing it like this girl can.

  • Um... you do realize that your browser can not show any video, picture, or sound without it being downloaded on your computer. With that logic in mind, it IS on your computer. There are programs that record sound from your audio output, that is how i get songs all the time.

  • Well, that's nice to know, but where do I find those programs on my computer?

  • Get audacity. None of these progams come with the OS

  • @beautifulsoul74 If you have Itunes, type in Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Concert, find the song, and buy it.

  • this is funny i like the mean lady

  • its not a gun shot. it is a light bulb exploding my father was at the concert, it wasnt ment to happen

  • No it was, the sound of the Thenardier madam coming home, she slams the door shut.

  • she wouldnt of jumped so much if it was rehearsed, it was not ment to happen

  • Maybe she was meant to jump, because the doorslam is suppose to "scare" her.

  • lol you really want to conjecture this, its getting a bit forced :)

  • love it was bulb bursting caused from over heating

  • 7:26

    love that one!!!

    7:35

    even funnier!!!

  • Thenardier is such a fun character! Now that someone else mentioned it, I can definitely see Timothy Spall in that role!

  • Oh and btw, did anyone else notice the jump at the gunshot at 1:46 HAHAHA x

  • yeah! poor thing, but hey! she did carry on singing.. good singer for her age i think!

    xD

  • i think it was meant to happen. :D

  • LES MIS ROCKS YOUR SOCKS! x

  • The best Madame Thenardier ever!

  • Best musical ever. No question about it. So many great messages, and of course, great music.

  • 8:04 go Eponine go Eponine break it down get low get low yeah lil pimp.

  • Raise it up the masters arse!

  • i saw this in london in july too it was absalutly fantastic!!!!! i loved it and i wqas in the front row too! if you can go see it yourself it amazing!

  • It scares me how much he looks like Keith Miller from Eastenders xD

    Awesome musical!

  • Omg I thought his face looked familiar lol.

  • Master of the House is one of those songs that sticks in your head all day :P

love both these songs, Cosette is fan-tabby-tastic XD

  • nice!?? tht fat ass lady doesnt even noe the meanin of nice.. >:O

  • I can't get over how funny and probably drunk everyone is in 'Master of the House' =P

Cosette is too cute for words T_T It's too bad she was abused by...'THEM'!

My Music teacher is actually going to be in one of the productions where I live =) ...She's going to be 'Old Lady' XD

  • lol.

  • 1.46, what happens???

  • a prop gun went off backstage...or something smashed, shot off, or closed...idk. i always get a kick out of it my self but u have to admire she kept perfect posture.

  • I saw this show in London in July IT WAS AMAZING!!!!

  • who played cosette in this ? the young one ??

  • Alun Armstrong is a excellent Thénardier :-)

  • Best Thenardier EVER!

  • Than you haven't seen Carlo, the Dutch Thenardier ;) He's the best :D

  • i went to see les mis in london...and i mean it was awesome...but i think this is the best madame ever ♥

  • i did too and the actors i saw in london wer amazing but i do agree she is AWESOME

  • oh man. this play is an amazing piece of art. Madame is amazing.

  • Went to see this on broadway.

    It was really good =]

  • I love the act they do when the Thernadier's receive their applause. Very professional. Brilliantly sung.

  • english accents just sound awsome. simple as that.

  • the guy who sings Master of the House scares me.

  • but in a good, funny way, lol

  • simply amazing!

I can't wait to our sh0w of Les Miserables!!! especially master of the house!

  • I've never quite understood the English accents if it takes place in France...

  • if you're in france, speaking french, you wouldn't have accents... they're speaking english, but in the context its french. just imagine you have a translator in your ear or something.... use your imagination !!

  • musical theatre is just weird thats all. you have to admit the accents go really really well. i love this

  • English accents are easier for more people to understand. I think that's why they went with it.

  • Must be the revolution...

  • Does anyone know what the pop at 2:46-ish is? It sounds like maybe someone dropped a prop gun and it went off! :) What's the deal with that? You can even see Cossette jump a little when it happens! Any explanations?

  • Do you mean 1:46?

I don't know what happened. It'd be interesting to know though...

  • it was a baloon, my brother was there and saw it live

  • um.. no someone dropped one of the guns

  • Yea it was a gun

  • If I'm not mistaken, a balloon popped.

  • lol

  • Actually I was told it was one of the fake guns backstage. A balloon would have had to be right next to her to be that loud... and did you see any balloons on the set anywhere?

  • i thought it was meant to happen because it was the line where crying was not allowed. you know like they'd get a bang if they did cry or something lol!!

  • hehe and i like her little jolt when singign crying is not allowed lol

  • it was a balloon

  • a balloon pops. the ones that go off at the end.

  • I don't know but I'm always amazed that she doesn't miss a note or beat when it happens...at all. Amazing

  • Top performers - fantastic

  • the girl in the beginning is really good!

  • We're playing songs from Les Miserables in band at my school

  • what a great video and song im trying to learn this cos im playing this part in my wifes show in july

  • THIS IS THE BEST VERSION EVER!!!!!!!!

  • i agree, i can never find one that even compares. they are either too fast or not as detailed. i love love love the whole thing!!

  • damn. i laugh every single time she jumps. thats the best part of the musical. well, atleast this show. i remember watching this a few years earlyer when i was like 5 and i remember laughing my butt off even then.

  • The 10th Anniversary of Les Miserables, with its only comic song of the Master of the House, is altogether the best musical in the world. It's got everything, and the last number is beyond compare.

  • It's not the ONLY comic song. I think "Beggars at the Feast" is even funnier. And "Dog Eat Dog", while dark is still funny. Not to mention the entire bargain sequence that follows this song.

But yes this show rocks, as does the amazing Phillip Quast.

  • i love alun armstrong in this, hes fantastic!

  • my teacher didn't let us see the second half of master of the house. now i finallycan! thnx

  • poor thing - a balloon popped right as she was singing! but she held on! ^__^! those 2 make me laugh!! XD lol

  • I luv the way the wee girl craps herself when that loud bang happens at 01:45... Very funny, she makes a good job of keeping her voice steady afterwards...Ha he haw!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure it was one of the balloons from after the show popping.

  • i didnt know that guy could sing!!!! he is on a detective thingy on television.. i fink it's called new tricks or old tricks.. :)

  • new tricks, Alun Armstrong.

  • thanks cudnt remeber the name =)

  • yer man is really gud.. funny 2 but no1 really laughed at him! lol

dat little girl was unreall, must av taken a lot a guts 2 get up der nd do wat she did so flawlessly

  • That little girl is so talented.

  • Thenardier reminds me of Mr. Bumble from Oliver! Is it only me who feels that way?

  • Cameron Macintosh promised us a musical of Les Miz over 15 years ago! I believe he is looking for the ultimate cast list at the moment... it is one thing he must not get wrong. For starters.. who else but Colm Wilkinson for Valjean... however old he is, he's the best!

  • They should make a Les Miserables the musical a movie. The cast should be: Madame Thenardier: Jane Kaczmarek. Little Cosette: Elle Fanning. Little Eponine: Anastasia Korbal. Eponine: Amanda Bynes.

  • I'm auditionin 4 les mis in a month. Wish me luck!! Any tips?

  • 2 things.

    #1. Break a leg.

#2. is what state are you in i am looking for a les misebles audition. can you healp me out.

  • well...i've got no tips but i wish u luck!XD

  • oooh i auditioned!!!!!! we are practicing for the play now. are you a beginner? or are you experienced? if you are a beginner, practice a lot. watch these videos on youtube. buy the cd of les mis. do anything!!!!!!!!! pick your favorite song, and sing that for your audition. if you are experienced, just do the same thing. sing your audition song to a voice teacher, to your friends, to your parents.

  • put the glass up his what? rofl

  • LOL.

  • Lol aww that girl is so cute when she puts on that classic British Broadway accent lol cuuuute!

  • 1:47 shows her professionalism. When I child can continue singing without her voice cracking under that kind of stress, you have to applaud her skill.

  • yeah, you're right, that was amazing. It was a lightbulb or what? haha, I remember discussing that some years ago in my music class =P

  • I was one of the balloons that they dropped at the end of the show.

  • you were a balloon?

  • lol.... didn't see that typo.... lol

  • the 2 best songs from the musical! Thanks for posting!

  • oh my goodness i love this broadway!my and my chorus class are singing castle on the cloud for our spring conscert

  • love it always.Got so many audictions wiv dis song x x lol x x

  • she is so amzing

  • Poor thing a balloon burst while she was singing!! Oh well she carried on like a trooper, didn't she?

  • that sounded more like a gun shot then a baloon...

  • I know. CURSE YOU LOUD SOUND!!!!

  • fantastic! Les Mis is a play that's growing on me bit by bit. this is my favorite clip besides "look down" in the beginning and in the middle. the actor playing M.Thenardier is astoundingly good. reminds me of Peter Petigrew (is it Timothy Spall, i believe?).

  • I know! It is Timothy Spall, and that's exactly who he reminds me of.

  • No its not Timothy Spall its Alun Armstrong. I Have the DVD of this and its amazing, highly recommend it! Colm Wilkinson is the bestest!

  • I take it that you mean the actor who sings Master of the House on this video you know is not Timothy Spall, but that he reminds you of him, your reply was a bit confusing. I have worked with Alun some years ago on a TV film so I can assure you that this is him! Brilliant isnt he!

  • it's a dream..

    beautefoul!

  • Yeeeeessssssss!!!

  • Nevermind.. it's actually a synthesizer.

  • You mean the clarinet?

  • sounds more like an alto or soprano sax

  • what's the squishy instrument at the beginning of master of the house???

  • This is our play this year. Some of hste ppl who got leads shouldnt have though...out music teacher play favorites so much. I got a solo, not a lead role bu tits something!! so im excited!!! i just cant wait for rehhersals to start!!

  • Aw, shes so sweet! Bless..

Ya cant beat little Gavroche though, hes the best kid init..!

    x

  • at 1:45 when she hears a like thump it barely frightened her, it was very nice and sweet!

  • This girl is so good at being a professional that when someone dropped something off stage it didn't even startle her.

  • the loud band that we hear is actually one of the balloons that they had attached to the roof that float down at the end! it was in the trivia section that used to be on the website

  • Thank you for clarifying that for me. I didn't actually know what had happened I just knew it was loud. I always like new knowledge.

  • Hehehe,

This Is Our Musical This Year,

I freaked in the auditions and let my nerves get the best of me, so no lead for me.

My best friend is Marius though! ^-^

I just met our little Cosette the other day, she's sweet...
