On the question of life and death. Seems to me that in reality the religious should be happy to die as they are the ones who will recieve a great present for their worship. I'm not really sure however why I've never met a christian who said to me I can't wait to die.
@yournotright101 Not only are they happy to die, they cannot wait for it. Every Christian, Muslim, and Jew on earth is a doomsday herald. They all are convinced the end will come, and CANNOT WAIT for it.
I am a creationist but I appreciate your well-thought-out and respectful answers. Thank you for being different from most atheists i encounter on YouTube.
I must admit that's the first time I've heard a nutter claim that atheists eat each other's shit. But then again, I have ceased to be amazed at the level of nonsense that Christards are capable of.
Some of those questions are legitimately worth your time to answer, which you handled very well. Some of the questions are filled with generalizations and straw man arguments, assuming that all atheists are immoral and depraved individuals. Contrary to popular belief among many people of faith, it IS possible for an atheist to be a moral person. I even know atheists who donate time and money to charity.
Great video !! I loled at the Coprophagia part ... I have respect for Atheists ... though I don't really belive that this is all there is ... will remain agnostic/ignostic ...
Good video, BlueSpirals; I was especially intruiged at about the 2:00 mark, when you casually claim to have travelled backwards in time. Do you care to elaborate on that (presumably excellent) adventure? Maybe post some video documentation?
Blue, I hope you're not saying that an inquiry of methodogical naturalism which uses reductionism to form conclussions has proved a proposition like evolution? Such things are, via the method, not possible of being 'proofed', they can only be shown to not be disproved. Granted the overwhelming consistent evidence demonstrates with the utmost certitude for this axoim, but I think saying it's prooved, is a stretch & leaves you open on philosophical error.
felixlighta , yea, but science theories cannot necessarily be philosophically proofed as they involve methods of reductionism in which they are said to, as Popper would put it, just 'not have been disproved'. So for all practical purposes it's more or less a fact, I'll grant you, but it's not a philosophically proofed one, nor can it be per the rules of methodical naturalism. No science theories are ever proofed in such a way.
Telling an atheist/scientist that facts cannot be attained through scientific research becuase they dont meet a philosophical factor will never be seen as any more than an irrelivance.
sure facts (e.coli changing) can be attained, but the model/theory itself due to how methodological naturalism operates necessitates that they in themselves can never be proved, as they're always tentative. One can say the model/theory has yet to be philosophically disproved, but cannot assert its been proved philosophically. Sure the models incorporate vast consistent evidence which makes them damn near certain, but they're cannot be termed 'proofed'.
By the same logic we cannot physically prove anything. But someone who is truly interested in the quest for truth cannot be concerned with such self indulgent prattle. Are we sure we are not living in the matrix? That if a tree falls in the woods when no one is near it that it will make a sound?
This fatuous reasoning benefits no one and offers no help in man's quest for knowledge.
felixlighta, no, (baring the matrix thing) certain things we can prove (maths, predicate logic) while others, like MN which involve reductionism necessarily cannot be said to be proofed in the same manner. Sure they're w/ out question the best explanation, but it's not philosophical provable. By all sound logic it's basically an unassailable truth, but one which is tentative & requires that it not be given a status of being proofed, otherwise no need to refer to it as tentative at all.
I'm afraid i don't follow. You are saying that a coherent long running experiment showing the full extent of the evolutionary process along 12 separate tribes of bacteria that all originated from the same identical genus is still, in essence, reductionist?
I don't Agree.
We can see the entire process laid out before us with no need for alternate experiments or alternate theories. If we knew nothing else about it, this experiment alone would be enough to validate Dawins theory.
no, the e.coli is fine, it's not reductionist, The method of methodological naturalism however is, & that's why it's always more accurate to say what's not been disproved rather than proved.
Don't say that evolution is not a theory! THEORY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN SCIENCE. At the time of Darwin it was an Hypothesis to explain the FACT that species do change. Darwins hypothesis became a THEORY.
THEORY is a GOLDEN MEDAL for SCIENCE.

It states that God had turned another group of people into dogs and swine, and in any case it should be regarded as a metaphore, not literally, and it could refer to a few religious nutbars among them and not the entire people.

type in godandscience, some video about every intelligent evolutionist must answer is pretty funny, he makes other videos that are pretty much sad but hilarious
Morality is an intrinsic characteristic of humans, for the simple reason that our ancestors who did not act in a way that preserved a stable society didn't make it. Indeed, given that neanderthals survives for a quarter million years, they might very well have been more moral than we are. But there is a balance. Evolution favors nothing more than success, so our morality is balanced against our aggression. You see this in nations, people, and religions.
Evolution is actually a theory AND a fact. The fact is that animals evolve (this is observable and indisputable unless you're a retard). The theory of evolution is the explanation for why animals evolve.
I think atheists (like myself) would have more of a desire to live compared to theists because unlike them, we don't believe in an afterlife, and realize that this is all the time we get.
That's the way I see it. The most valuable thing a person has is their life, and because of that I would never look to death as a solution to anything. I see suicide as meaningless. Nothing good can come from it. All it would do is cause sorrow to those around me. I learned that from Tales of Symphonia. ;P
Yeah I'm aware that I said "Evolution is not a theory, it's a fact." I'm aware that a theory is a scientifically verified hypothesis, but I was using it in the pejorative sense that creationists often do.
You've handled this in a very mature and knowledgeable way. Thank you for getting your point across in a way that doesn't involve blatent insults and such. It's refreshing, and I enjoyed your video!!
The analogies people us to describe things are often projections of their own mental state.
Someone who uses violent analogies consistently is prohjecting his own violence on the world. (haha i just used this analogy unconsiously, only to realize that it was because I was projecting my own unhappiness of my own violent nature).
Someone who uses obscene pornstar references, like the guy asking the questions....well you get the idea.
That middle question made me laugh. PJ sure does have a creative mind, and wild fantasies huh? mother daughter? Damn, thats hot shit, and he thought it up all by himself ;) what a little sick fuck.
Stop saying that evolution is no longer a theory, that its a fact.
Start explaining how a scientific theory is different from a hypothesis which is different from a hunch.
Also, I wish that people would start using the term "Scientific Theory of Evolution" instead of "Theory of Evolution" to further stress that this not just an idea that some people want to believe.
I do not agree with this. You want to change the name of a idea, of a factual idealogy that is widely excepted and is the basis for medicine, cancer research, genetic research, and psycholgical research, simply because you dont want to believe in it. Regardless of your belief, for whatever reason you want to have (thats up to you) that does not in any way change reality, and the actuality of the world. You dont shape the world, the world shapes you.
A great response video. You answer the questions clearly, simply, elegantly, and with far more respect than they deserve, and that's very much to your credit.
Good video, though some of the questions were just dumb.
Also, scientific facts very rarely change. A fact is an indisputable observation. When you allow for appropriate error bars, the facts don't actually change.
Evolution will always be a theory just like gravity will always be a theory. We need to explain why science uses the term theory and why it causes confusion with the everyday term 'theory'. Evolution is a theory AND a fact. Good vid.
Some of those questions made me really uncomfortable. I just ate chocolate, ya know? But really, a few of the questions kind of offended me. Ya did a good job answering them so calmly. :)
That's right, many popular questions asked by theists about morality and society are extremely offensive and thoughtless, if not just moronic. Great video, such informative responses to such silly questions.

The way I see it there is 3 main religions....Christianity, Islam, and Jewish...so statistic wise i have a 33% chance at a next life where as u have 0....now there are 3 ways my life and ur's can turn out...1 I believe in the wrong god.....hence i will go to hell with u....2 no god....therefore our lives will end...3. i believe in the right god i will go to heaven and u will rot in hell.....Also I worship out of free will not fear...even if one worships out of fear there is still a reward.
What constitutes as 'main'? Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism are WAY WAY bigger than Judaism, and you didnt even mention those. So your measurement is WAY off. There are hundreds of religions- your 'chance' at choosing the correct one are less than 1%.
If you knew there was no hell, you wouldn't feel obligated to worship anything. You are religious because you are afraid.
I would NEVER worship a god who sends good people to hell for being the wrong religion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Originally there were 3 main religions(Google it you dumb ass)...those are branches off of other religions...Of course if there was no hell i wouldn't be bounded to worship....but there would also be no heaven so no one would be trialed at the end.....also do u believe if a man kills someone and just because he beats the fucked up jury system that he will not held responsible for his actions....also just out of curiosity what do u think is going to happen to you after u die?
You have NO IDEA what you're talking about. Islam and Christianity are only about 2,000 years old. Judaism isn't much older. Zoroastrianism, a religion you've obviously NEVER heard of, is 600 years older than that. HINDUISM IS 1,500 OLDER THAN CHRISTIANITY. Paganism is 60,000 YEARS OLDER THAN CHRISTIANITY.
You don't have ANY clue what you're talking about.
I believe when you die, nothing happens. It's lights out. No god, no heaven, no hell.
Pascal's wager, seriously? People have believed in Gods for thousands of years before Judaism, Islam or Christianity. Whats important is not the # of religions, but the # of possible Gods. There is an INFINITE number of possible Gods which are exclusive. Meaning you're chance of guessing right is less than 1/infinity, a mathematical impossibility. Also, you can't change you're beliefs to save your ass. Beliefs don't work that way, if you're honest with yourself.
Hey, you're free to think atheists are going to burn in Hell. I'm good with that. Just don't start going on about incestuous gangbangs and fecal consumption like your boy 100pjp001. I know he's one of your people, but I just ate lunch and I'd like to keep it down.
Unfortunately for the religious, belief in the afterlife simply because it is comforting, does not make it true whatsoever. What about the man who believes he is immune to HIV? He must be able to have all the unprotected sex he wants!
Death doesn't bother me. I'd prefer not to die until after I finish college though. Our mortality is why we revere existence so much. If you knew you'd never die, you'd find yourself taking these precious moments we share for granted.
But fortunately for the religious, belief in the afterlife is comforting. Of course that will never make it reality, but imagine actually believing that you'll live for ever....wow.
I find my mind wages war with itself, with thoughts of making the most out of this opportunity at life fighting off nihilistic viewpoints that existence is simply a meaningless length of time between when we are born and when we die.
I disagree. Any break in the continuity of nonexistence is quite significant, in my opinion. Why, you have Life, and that is an incredibly rare characteristic of matter in the universe. I'd say you've achieved just about the deepest profundity the universe has to offer. Dont fuck it up.
I know what you say is true, I tell myself similar things every day. Self-aware matter is truly beyond remarkable.
So why do I feel so underwhelmed by it all at times...determinism suggests that my existence was inevitable, which makes it hard to consider myself 'lucky'. I certainly don't view my human form as an achievement.
I guess some idiots are just never satisfied, but I do take comfort in the fact i have another 60ish years to achieve philosophical satisfaction.
I've never understood the fear-obsession with death. It has never bothered me. I definitely have better things to do than die, but that is the extent of my apprehension about it. Who cares about death? It's the ultimate nap. You'll never even know you're gone.
I dont think you'll ever achieve philosophical satisfaction. Philosophy today is largely useless (in my opinion) and is just used to impress others. Avoid philosophy. Avoid 'isms' like determinism. Just be real with yourself and chill out
I don't think being an animal automatically means we'll be dead forever. In eastern religions animals have souls and reincarnate and there's no spiritual difference between a human and an animal.
Atheists do not believe in god, satan, heaven, or hell. Atheists do not believe in life after death, or the soul. They do not believe in ghosts, evil spirits, the paranormal, or any sort of unexplainable experience. Atheists believe there is a logical, scientific explanation for every strange occurance or religious experience.
you people chooses to become atheist so that you can commit all sort of sins without feeling guilty i know you do feel guilty but you choose to become atheist as an excuse to do whatever
I do believe we live once, and we should make the most of our life instead of fearing a god that may or may not exist. I believe that when we die we decompose into the soil and that how we live on, not going to a 'heaven'. Our bodies are recycled and we help other animals to survive.
It's not by religion that wars start it's the nature of human beings, the nature of which rejects the true meaning of Christianity. They probably see the old testament and say "if this talks about wars then we'll go to war too" They fail to read the actual fulfilment of the laws as told by Christ. He did things that went against the Old Testament like stoning people to death.
The Old testament says to put anyone to death who works on the Sabbath, and Jesus worked on the Sabbath. So there's....
"Also I personally think it's stupid when people think certain words are "bad" or call them "curse words" they are just fucking sounds and letters they only have the meaning that you give them"
Like what words for example you dont think are that bad?
100pjp001, you have to realize that even though religion has its pro's it's cons are always going to tear the world apart. Religion is just another way to separate everyone as a human race. Also I personally think it's stupid when people think certain words are "bad" or call them "curse words" they are just fucking sounds and letters they only have the meaning that you give them.
funny thats not how Christians act, many treat their religion as special and some how supercedes all others, trying to get lies about Creationisim and such put into school. Have peoples rights removed like homosexuals or woman, or blacks becuase they feel it's part of the bible.
Religion divdes people, even within Chritianity you have protestants/Catholics, withing protestants you have, baptists, pentacostals, luthern, and so on each considerign the others not true Christians.
You should ask him some questions about the bible now. Lol.

In what possible context are these quotes okay? In what context is it ethical for these views to be endorsed by a creator?
Do you imply that back then murder was okay, or somehow less disgusting than it is now?

Yeah I'm aware that I said "Evolution is not a theory, it's a fact." I'm aware that a theory is a scientifically verified hypothesis, but I was using it in the pejorative sense that creationists often do.

Theory is synonymous to proven fact. In science, it takes a large body of proof to attain the status of theory.
Please don't confuse the word theory as it is used in science with how it is used colloquially.

Fun Fact:
The analogies people us to describe things are often projections of their own mental state.
Someone who uses violent analogies consistently is prohjecting his own violence on the world. (haha i just used this analogy unconsiously, only to realize that it was because I was projecting my own unhappiness of my own violent nature).
Someone who uses obscene pornstar references, like the guy asking the questions....well you get the idea.

Stop saying that evolution is no longer a theory, that its a fact.
Start explaining how a scientific theory is different from a hypothesis which is different from a hunch.
Also, I wish that people would start using the term "Scientific Theory of Evolution" instead of "Theory of Evolution" to further stress that this not just an idea that some people want to believe.
ronpaulbot 2 years ago 2
I do not agree with this. You want to change the name of a idea, of a factual idealogy that is widely excepted and is the basis for medicine, cancer research, genetic research, and psycholgical research, simply because you dont want to believe in it. Regardless of your belief, for whatever reason you want to have (thats up to you) that does not in any way change reality, and the actuality of the world. You dont shape the world, the world shapes you.

Good vid.

That's bullshit. That's called Pascal's Wager. You say it's safer to believe in god than to not believe in him.
However, you dont know WHICH god to believe in, and you better hope your god cant tell you believe in him just out of fear, or you're fucked anyways.
This says a LOT about why you believe in god. Just out of fear of punishment. I refuse to be subjugated emotionally.

TheMuhahahah 2 years ago
What constitutes as 'main'? Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism are WAY WAY bigger than Judaism, and you didnt even mention those. So your measurement is WAY off. There are hundreds of religions- your 'chance' at choosing the correct one are less than 1%.
If you knew there was no hell, you wouldn't feel obligated to worship anything. You are religious because you are afraid.
I would NEVER worship a god who sends good people to hell for being the wrong religion.
BlueSpirals 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Originally there were 3 main religions(Google it you dumb ass)...those are branches off of other religions...Of course if there was no hell i wouldn't be bounded to worship....but there would also be no heaven so no one would be trialed at the end.....also do u believe if a man kills someone and just because he beats the fucked up jury system that he will not held responsible for his actions....also just out of curiosity what do u think is going to happen to you after u die?
TheMuhahahah 2 years ago
You have NO IDEA what you're talking about. Islam and Christianity are only about 2,000 years old. Judaism isn't much older. Zoroastrianism, a religion you've obviously NEVER heard of, is 600 years older than that. HINDUISM IS 1,500 OLDER THAN CHRISTIANITY. Paganism is 60,000 YEARS OLDER THAN CHRISTIANITY.
You don't have ANY clue what you're talking about.
I believe when you die, nothing happens. It's lights out. No god, no heaven, no hell.
BlueSpirals 2 years ago
@TheMuhahahah
TheVofR 2 years ago
@TheMuhahahah Your worst case scenario is that you will have spent your entire life, and your only life, worshiping an invisible man.

Yes. And yeah it sucks, big time. Get over it.
Innercynic 2 years ago
I dont think it sucks at all. It's a nice opportunity to enjoy a little existence.
BlueSpirals 2 years ago
I enjoy my existence, so much so I wish it didn't have to end. I envy the atheist who has found a way to become comfortable with their mortality.
Any tips BlueSpirals? Does the "D" word not bother you at all?
Innercynic 2 years ago
Unfortunately for the religious, belief in the afterlife simply because it is comforting, does not make it true whatsoever. What about the man who believes he is immune to HIV? He must be able to have all the unprotected sex he wants!
Death doesn't bother me. I'd prefer not to die until after I finish college though. Our mortality is why we revere existence so much. If you knew you'd never die, you'd find yourself taking these precious moments we share for granted.
BlueSpirals 2 years ago
But fortunately for the religious, belief in the afterlife is comforting. Of course that will never make it reality, but imagine actually believing that you'll live for ever....wow.
I find my mind wages war with itself, with thoughts of making the most out of this opportunity at life fighting off nihilistic viewpoints that existence is simply a meaningless length of time between when we are born and when we die.
LOL @ the human condition.
Innercynic 2 years ago
I disagree. Any break in the continuity of nonexistence is quite significant, in my opinion. Why, you have Life, and that is an incredibly rare characteristic of matter in the universe. I'd say you've achieved just about the deepest profundity the universe has to offer. Dont fuck it up.
BlueSpirals 2 years ago
I know what you say is true, I tell myself similar things every day. Self-aware matter is truly beyond remarkable.
So why do I feel so underwhelmed by it all at times...determinism suggests that my existence was inevitable, which makes it hard to consider myself 'lucky'. I certainly don't view my human form as an achievement.
I guess some idiots are just never satisfied, but I do take comfort in the fact i have another 60ish years to achieve philosophical satisfaction.
Good luck in your life.
Innercynic 2 years ago
I've never understood the fear-obsession with death. It has never bothered me. I definitely have better things to do than die, but that is the extent of my apprehension about it. Who cares about death? It's the ultimate nap. You'll never even know you're gone.
I dont think you'll ever achieve philosophical satisfaction. Philosophy today is largely useless (in my opinion) and is just used to impress others. Avoid philosophy. Avoid 'isms' like determinism. Just be real with yourself and chill out

I don't think being an animal automatically means we'll be dead forever. In eastern religions animals have souls and reincarnate and there's no spiritual difference between a human and an animal.

labellecongolaise 2 years ago
Atheists do not believe in god, satan, heaven, or hell. Atheists do not believe in life after death, or the soul. They do not believe in ghosts, evil spirits, the paranormal, or any sort of unexplainable experience. Atheists believe there is a logical, scientific explanation for every strange occurance or religious experience.
BlueSpirals 2 years ago
you people chooses to become atheist so that you can commit all sort of sins without feeling guilty i know you do feel guilty but you choose to become atheist as an excuse to do whatever
labellecongolaise 2 years ago
You cannot choose to believe in god or not believe in him. You just do, or you just dont.
Atheists are generally well-educated, good people who don't commit illegal acts.

100pjp001, you have to realize that even though religion has its pro's it's cons are always going to tear the world apart. Religion is just another way to separate everyone as a human race. What are the cons on "Love thy neighbour as thy self for the love of God"?
That's talking about mankind as a whole. How can that divide anyone?
100pjp001 2 years ago
funny thats not how Christians act, many treat their religion as special and some how supercedes all others, trying to get lies about Creationisim and such put into school.
