  • nice ride

  • Nice bikeee!!..vraiment joli

  • Seriously...this is an amazing build.

Great song and great editing with the video.

I'm tired of all these videos of bikes that are posted up.

They just sit there revving their engines and not even riding.

Then they play that crappy Drowning Pool song or some dumb hillbilly Freebird song.

    Thanks for being awesome.

I'm pretty sure there'll be assholes that are going to post stupid shit like..."You should've used a Harley Davidson engine man"

    Fuck those guys.

Or"yamaha bad lifters look it up"dicks

  • Ohhhhhhh mYYYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very nice!!!!

  • I WOULD LIKE TOO KNOW WHAT KIND OF TANK THAT IS...IS IT A FRISCO TANK THE 3.5 GALLON TANK?

  • Nice bike, sounds and looks good...

  • What frame did you use for this bike, is it Harley frame? Have you done the Dyno test? what is the most horsepower you can get out of it?

  • You did it right! If a chopper is built right it will call you to want to ride it.

Your bike does that for me.

I even enjoyed the video production work, especially the audio tracks.

    Good work!!!

  • what are the frame specs im building a cb750 and that frame is perfect

  • nice!!!!! i love it

  • very nice bike man. respect!

  • hey...i'd like to build a bike like that ...would u mind..? rey

  • pure awesomeness ! I ''know'' your bike for a long time but I decided to share my thoughts now :)

  • well that looks stupid sir

  • That bike is SWEET!! Where did you get that frame? That is just an awesome bike!

  • Really impressed with the bike mate, I used to have an Xs 250 when I was 16. Looked nothing like this though! Please please please what's the name of this song?

  • beautiful chopper mate. im halfway through building a xs650 chop myself, and you may of swayed me to go for green paint now ive seen this :)

  • 最高にカッコいいぜ。

    ヤマハ チョッパー!!

  • Thank you very much! ありがとう!

  • lovely bike man , is this a moded frame or a new build ?

  • New frame, Harley neck and rear end, Yamaha XS engine mounts. Rest of the mounts and battery box etc fabbed from scratch.

  • @rocketcarmike NICE BIKE I DONT NEED TO BE A HARLEY TO HAVE A NICE RIDE

  • awesome bike

  • All of the links in the assembly section on your build specs site don't work. Can you get them all to work? I'd like to print your build info for reference on my build.

  • I didn't finish documenting everything, it was taking longer to document stuff than to do it. And I'm no expert, this was my first build.

  • @rocketcarmike that looks and sounds incredible man. i'm having a hard time believing that's a japanese engine. fully impressed. you built the bike alone, as in in your garage? i notice the video is shot in Vancouver... my town!! where ya at?

  • well edited

  • Awesome chopper bro. Runs and sounds great.

  • coooollllll

  • cool choppper mate, what size wheels you on.

  • 18" x 250 in the rear, 18" x 3.5 front.

They didn't make wide 21" rims for the front when I started, and I wanted something substantial, not a pizza cutter in the front with a steamroller in the back.

  • Fajna bryka :) fajny głos silnika

  • Fucking AWESOME Chop man!!!!

  • i typed in "650 yamaho chopper" and the thing asked me "did you mean yamaha" and i thought to myself "no, i meant yamaho".

  • great chop !!!

  • linda, parabens!

  • Big props on this build man. I've used your vids as a source of inspiration for what I want to do. I see the frame modification specs in your description but I was wondering if you could tell me how tall you are? I'm 6'3" 200lbs and I can't tell if you can see over the headlight/bars or not? I'd like to do something similar as far as riding position. Any tips you could give are appreciated... thanks and once again, sweet ride!

  • I'm 5'10, and I can see over the bars fine. Especially if I sit up straight it's totally clear, but I like to hunch forward, but the bar still isn't in the way.

Rider position is everything: so many of those popular choppers look good until someone sits on it and it looks like a little kid sitting on daddy's big bike. Feet way out front, but leaning back with bars that come way way back to meet the rider...

  • Thanks for the link, that's EXACTLY what I needed to see! I might go another couple inches out to allow for a comfortable stretch. Hell, I might as well ask... if Jared was going to build a bike how would he change the frame specs to account for another 6" in height? I'm having real trouble finding an XS650 for a reasonable price and am actually considering an inline 3 or 4 cylinder. I'd rather go with the XS since there's so many resources and support for them.

  • I think you'd be comfortable with a couple more inches out, but I think it's more your feet and legs that you want to account for. (foot control position and seat height)

The bars/risers are the biggest factor for where your arms and back end up. With apes, you can tilt them whenever you want to "stretch" the bike. The placement of the neck doesn't really do much for "fit" compared to all the other factors.

A 6'4" guy can comfortably ride a stock bike with zero stretch, so...

  • VERY NICE JOB... hey man... i would someday make my own chopper and make my video too... WPWW ( BRAZIL)

  • Just start doing it. I didn't know anything when I started other than I liked Jesse James bikes and then the American Chopper guys made me think "Oh, so any idiot can do it." And I proved that any idiot can do it. I hadn't even touched a welder before I started.

  • Hot damn, that bike is perfect!! I'm looking into bikes with nearly identical proportions to yours. Does your bike handle well?

  • Killer bike man!

Is that a JJ Villain Gas tank?

  • badass dood

  • Beautiful job man! I can't wait to start working on mine again. I'm still not sure what I want to do with it - chopper or cafe style. Definitely blacking out the engine tho!

  • nice vid and nicer bike

  • coolest 650 ever !

    sweet !

  • Hey, Im building an xs650 my self and im kinda stuck on sprocket size...Ok so have a wheel that accepts 1973-85' style sprocket, but the smallest size i found in those years is 47T, is this too much?

  • Yeah, that's too many teeth unless the tire is way higher diameter. Or you change the gear ratio somewhere else in the drive train.

I tried 42 teeth in the back which took a little off the top speed in favour of low-end. But I didn't like the high revs on the highway, so I went to 34 teeth (80% of the teeth = 80% of the RPM at the same speed).

My sprocket is made from a standard ANSI #50 sprocket from a machine shop (ANSI #50 dimensions are identical to 530 Motorcycle Chain)

  • Irmão tua maquina é fantastica, parabens pela transformaçao em uma chopper, se não se importar vou copiar ela.valeu.

  • slick bike man, dig the look for sure, the headlight setup is unique and practical. i loved the touch on the side of the battery box, hahaha im in the middle of doing the rising sun on the tank of my chopper in blue and white. anyways sick machine, love to see more video of the bike, take in some details. rubber side down bro!

  • how much mod is needed to drop an xs 650 on a frame made for evo motors.

  • Nice Japbike! It looks better than most cookie cutter bikes people ride!

  • fucking nice!

  • The triple lights look great, good idea...

  • Gracias a esta customizacion, creo que voy a tratar de conseguir ese motor y hacer un proyecto asi...Realmente muy buen gusto, Perfecta..!!

  • is it good to have the handle bar that high...is it not blocking the eyesight?

  • que estupenda motocicleta amigo sube mas videos de la xs 650

  • its the perfect shape! i love it

  • When it comes to 650s this guys like Yoda LOL!!

J/K the guy really knows his bikes guess thats why he has this sick bike on.

    Thanks for the info Mike

  • che spettacolo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice chop man has WCC style to it! too bad its not a v twin but that still is a bad ass bike!!!!

  • I intentionally didn't want a V-Twin. Why make your own custom bike if it's just going to look like all the other ones?

(Though yeah, I did totally rip off WCC. It's a Jesse James tank though, to pay tribute. His work was the inspiration to do the project at all, after all. I know -- too much Discovery Channel in 2003)

  • sweet bike!

  • super machine extra !!!

    super trans arriere beau job

  • Nice bike!

  • nice

  • Great bike man! I'm building a bobber out of a KZ650 right now. I'm in Regina too, where is that shop you got your front end?

  • "Design Cycle" - looks like they closed last year. The part of their business that makes frames is still going it seems. "Cycle One Manufacturing"

  • looks like a fun ride

  • GOOD STUFF

  • I bought a design cycle frame also, but I used a Suzuki gsxr instead of the Yamaha.

Did B.C force you to stamp in another vin# or were you able to use the design cycle vin stamped on the neck?I'm asking because in Ontario I was forced to stamp in a new vin# right through my paint job...

  • Yeah, it would require a new vin# stamped on.

...if I actually made it legal.

  • Nice Chop mate, Like the headlight setup also, pretty different :)

Got a couple of XS chops myself, but not nearly as neat as yours. Good build.

  • beautiful!

  • Sweet!

  • Nice bike, nice tune.

What was the name of the song?

  • Jurassic 5 - React. Look up Cut Chemist.

  • chopper stupendo

  • I love it!

  • I can't get enough of this bike. Is that just a CFL roller modified for the xs650?

  • Pistons are NOT in sync dude. Thats the dif between a triumph and a well designed jap bike. You can hear the diff.

  • Um, they go up and down at the same time. 360 degrees out of phase on a 720 degree cycle. Ie; they alternate power strokes, but the pistons go up and down together. Exactly like a Triumph.

You CAN hear it, it goes put-put-put-put. Or put your hands over the pipes and feel it alternate at a regular rhythm.

  • hi mike great bike mate ive got a Z400 that i want to chop, what top speed do you get?, love you city i played rugby for kats there, a long time ago

    cheers bruce

  • I geared it a bit taller than stock to keep RPMs down at highway speed in 5th gear. It's at about 4000rpm at 100kph (60mph), which means theoretically it could reach 160kph (100mph) well before the redline. I don't go much above 100-120kph though because it starts to vibrate pretty bad above that due to the parallel twin (pistons are in sync) and the top motor mounts not attached to the frame.

Remember to divide the new tire's diameter by the stock diameter in your gearing ratio calcs.

  • Excellent! Great work Mike and it looks like some really nice riding on the Island!

    Cheers

  • Not quite the island, this is all around Vancouver.

  • xs650chopper(dot)com if your in to xs650..

  • I really dig it man...

  • I shoulda say " stinky asses "......

  • This Yamaha kick stink asses. One of a kind

  • VERRY COOL!!!

  • Thanks a lot for the quick reply.. I appreciate the input!

  • Great looking bike!.. I'm thinging about putting a 18X8 rear with 240mm tire on my xs650, but I've been advised that the massive rear tire might kill power. Do you think you've lost power from it?

  • I don't think it made too much difference, though the jackshaft probably sucks some power out of the drivetrain too. It's hard to say since it was a long time between and the bike is a totally different shape too. The thing is a parade float though, not a sporty ride. But anything over 200 in the back means you're sacrificing common sense for looks.

  • Wow I love it.

  • Bitchen XS, much luv from Halifax!

  • that's one kick ass looking bike. sounds pretty nice too!

  • love the headlight(s)

  • Bitchin!

  • VERY NICE CHOP ...I LOVE IT ! Mike

  • Dude....love it. I had a '75 XS650 Special back in the late 70's. Next to my current Valkyrie, it was the best damn bike I've ever had. I gotta know....what frame is that and where would I get one? Got a link to your build specs? thanks.

  • click the "more info"

  • Sorry, must be blind... Where did you post the bike's specs?

  • Top right beside the video, there's an HD link, and the beginning of a sentence. Click (more info) above it to expand it.

  • I don't know what's better, the chop or the video! You must be well happy with both!

  • classy and beautiful job..not overdone...

    Xavier

  • excellant chop mate

  • is that the jesse james tank?

  • Yep.

  • hey, really great looking bike! can i ask what type of front end you went with? looks like it might be a wide glide with longer fork tubes? or is stock xs?

  • Harley wide glide, long tubes.

  • Got any pics of this bike?

  • What the info on the song?!? I love it!

  • It's a little edit I made of Jurassic 5 - React. But look up Cut Chemist, he's split off solo and that's his feel.

  • Best XS 650 ever!! Great job and very detailed documentary.

  • wow man real original and beautiful, cool video too

  • chingon ese!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AWSOME BIKE you got there I love it!

  • check ardcore choppers i think they can help you

  • Amazing bike! Who are the frame and front end built by?

  • Added to the (more info)
