Desde Costa Rica. Con la noticia de la muerte de Amália Rodrigues, en 1999, descubrí el "fado" y, aun sin saber yo portugués, con su voz y sentimiento Amalia me ha trasportado, una y otra vez, al disfrute de tan bella música, a sentir su mensaje que está más allá del significado de las palabras. Escuchando a Amalia también descubrí la belleza sonora de la guitarra portuguesa y otras excelentes fadistas.

I discovered Fado when I was doing my music degree and I love it so much. Amalia is amazing, and the Queen of Fado. For those who do not know, Portugal had 3 days to grieve when she passed away.

This is called Fado a very traditional portuguese music style.

The singer is Amália Rodrigues the biggest singer ever. Unfortunately she passed away already but she is still alive in every portugese citezen.

She has many records in english and many other languages.

If get into try one of those, in the language u get more confortable, so that you will be able to understand.

@eradogramophone I'm afraid Amália never, to my knowledge, sang in English. She did sing very well in French, but the vast majority of her recordings are in Portuguese. She wrote many of her finest songs herself. She was a legend in her lifetime (d.1999), but today fado itself is growing round the world, with great young singers taking the music into a new phase. But hwers is still a voz do fado. Sempre.
