You can difference a true composer in metal, if they realize that the only agression possible in music is when a song destroys itself. It's not about the screaming or about the riffs or lyrics, it's when drums battle with guitars, bass with the voice and the organs are just painting the scene. Chuck Schuldiner knew it perfectly so does Devin. Just heroes
1. Imperial WE HAVE RETURNED FOREVER'S INVENTION THE TWO BECAME ONE TILL WE COLLIDE TWO WORLDS COLLIDE TILL WE COLLIDE...OH... Further...further...FURTHER!!! NOW is the TIME we DELIVER!!! ...SING and BE HEARD! NOW!!! by the PROPHECY of the fucking weak that fucking wept... WE SHALL BE HEARD!!!
its clearly not black metal, but the black metal influence is undeniably there, anyways doesn't really matter what you classify music, so longs as I like it, then i'll listen to it be it metal or whatever.
Other than being awesome, how does he growl like this? And then in Almost Again he has one of the cleanest voices in metal? How is his throat not bleeding?
actually this band wasn't before meshuggah. meshuggah formed in 1987 with their first actual album coming out in 1991. Strapping I think formed in 1994 with their first album out in 1995. But regardless of that, both bands had pretty fucken heavy music out in the 90's and they both kick ass.
@chi854: This song is very black metal stylistically. The higher growls, the epic triple meter groove, the epic atmospheric keyboards. If you've listened to Emperor enough you'd see the resemblance. And, I didn't say SYL was black metal. I said "at least this song is". Read the comment again.
Calm down you little baby. You make it sound as though I threw I piece of crap in your eyes.
Plus, its atmosphere sounds very dark and evil. And when I say it resembles Emperor, I am refering to their later stuff. Not all Black Metal sounds primitive.
@NoEoAoRo This doesn't sound like black metal. Epic atmosphere is and always has been something that Devin uses in all of his music. I don't want to have to listen to a shit band like Emperor to pretend to see a resemblance to this.
they're both on the same album. classical composition dictates that a body of work must resolve in order to be considered properly musical. that kind of repetition is a form of resolution. so you're right! and it was an intentional compositional thought
