You can shine a red or soft white light at your covered eyes to help heighten the experience. Remember to keep your eyes open so you will feel like you're staring into the emptiness. That's when your brain will start to make up its own visuals. It's even better to wear headphones and listen to white or pink noise so there is no variation in auditory input either. Have fun!

I've tried it. All I saw was slowly swirling colors. It was kind of pretty and relaxing, like a screen saver.

@ar4216 Pink noise and white noise is the sound of static, like when your T.V isn't receiving a signal from satellite/cable. The two don't sound any different from each other. BTW only the older T.Vs do this not the newer ones. I hope this helps.
