  • haha they go shit together! its like watching all of elfmans work. correction, all of elfmans work is the same. he can't compose an original score, unlike james newton howard

  • That was pretty cool. I honestly like the danny elfman score a lot more than the new one.

  • @oxDannyBxo Me too, but if you think about it wasn't as dark as the new one, but it was catchy.

  • great!!!

  • he must have quite a bit of traction with those wheels :P

  • that sounded really good.

  • Yeah especially at 0:10 with the Batpod roaring and the drums marching it sounded like something dramatic was going to happen! Which did!

  • Calm down people, it's cool. Both scores are cool in their own way

  • LOL

  • This is fantastic. That is what is missing from that scene is music. But I think that the filmakers wanted to hear the sound from the Batpod.

  • ahhhhmazing!!!!

  • anyone think it cuts weirdly at around 0.13 and 0.24 in the latter it skips a bit and hes outside which isn't so bad but the 0.13 cut is really odd

  • This music is MUCh better - made the new movie suck less.

  • yep! damn right greenfizzysoda! :3 lol

  • yeah, danny elfman's music was great for batman 1989, but its still pretty intresting watching a scene from this movie with that music.

  • this might work for other scenes but not this or maybe doesnt fit with entire movie be cuz tdk is too dark for this song

  • it doesnt fit really well with nolans batman film.

    this film isnt cartoony

  • Tim Burton's films aren't cartoony either (you're thinking of the dreadful Schumacher era). They're just different from the new ones, not inferior or better. Film noir fantasies as opposed to crime thrillers. Remember, there is some quite disturbing stuff in Batman (Joker disfiguring his girlfriend so she has to hide behind a creepy featureless mask, for example).

  • Danny Elfman's music is indisputedly masterful though. I can see how the main theme could be reworked rather well. An ambient version of this melody would fit the tone of the new movies just as well as the recent scores. You have to remember that not all of Elfman's score is triumphant like the piece used in this video; there's some very atmospheric and spooky stuff in there too, and some very romantic elements as well.

  • It's a shame he wasn't asked to contribute to the new films, but I understand why Nolan wanted to go his own way with it. Nice experiment anyway, putting the two together!

(There. Sorry for doing it in three posts - the word count limit wouldn't let me do it all in one!)

  • That's the ONLY thing I don't like about this new Batman. He talks about becoming an iconic symbol in "Begins", but his own theme music is really subtle compared to Elfman's theme. That subtlety is even more compounded considering that BATMAN is the focus of these new movies instead of the flamboyant villains of the last bat-franchise. *lol*

  • Well, considering how Ledger blows everyone else off the screen whenever he appears in the latest movie, I'll assume you're being ironic with that closing remark! ;)

  • No, totally serious. As prominent as Ledger's Joker is in TDK, he's still a secondary character to Batman compared to the previous villains who took center stage. And HIS music is just as minimal as Batman's, unlike Elfman's crazy circus waltz.

  • I was joking! But, regardless of how screen time is allocated, I think most people still find the character far more memorable and interesting than the nominal lead. And despite only consisting of one note, the new Joker theme drowns out practically all other sound when it appears. So it's every bit as unsubtle in its own way... not that that's necessarily a bad thing!

  • Music in good movies sets the mood, and shouldn't announce a character. Even Joker's theme in Dark Knight sets the mood for the intensity of the scene rather than having a melodic tune to announce his presence. Subtle music changes make the mood so much better and sometimes goes unnoticed, like in the hospital scene where Joker and Dent talk, the soft music makes you feel the craziness that Joker infuses into Dent. It makes the line so much better. "I'm an agent of chaos"

  • Well said mate

  • @ccmadss Yeah, but this theme IS Batman. In all his incarnations. It's why it was also used in The Animated Series, and is so well-associated with Batman.

  • that...was...

    AWESOMEEE

  • The soundtrack to the 1989 film was great, it is still used on the media to present information about batman. Eventhough, the new spundtrack also works great. I loved the 1989 film (soundtrack and all) and I love the Nolan's approach.

If I may say, yes, on this tiny little clip, the music matched. Can you replace the music from the new movie with the new soundtrack entirely??? Not so sure...

  • damn good edit like it was really done good!

but the music reminds me of the crap j.schumcher made batman look in his movie.

  • That's funny, considering that - like Nolan - Schumacher chose not to use Danny Elfman's music in either of his Batman films...

I agree, though, a good edit!

  • The actual film didn't use much if any music at all during this scene and ultimately I think that was for the best. Too strong a score can detract from certain scenes and this one seemed to work well solely relying on the visuals and sound effects. Still it's a nice edit.

  • @EclipseStudio I disagree. Videos like these prove to me these scenes could've been much more exciting just by having a traditional epic soundtrack. Not every scene, but at least the ones with action.

  • PERFECT COMBINATION!!!

  • Last comment, I swear......

    I'm enthralled, completely.

    You did a wonderful job.

    Thank you.

  • THIS is the kind of movie I would want to see. Fucking brilliant. Perfect. Thank you.

No, really. I love it and think it's wonderful, thank you.

    Danny is absolutely incredible.

  • As much as I love Elfman's Batman score, it simply doesn't belong in this film. Howard and Zimmer were right to abstain from pushing out a bold, brassy hero theme, because the character is far too complex for something like that right off the bat (pun not intended).

  • Is this all CGI or real action? And where's the part where it goes up the building wall and comes down?! Wow! real cool!...

  • danny elfmans batman score will never be topped, least not anytime soon. 20 years later his music still kicks ass, always will. and i wish the whole batpod scene was on here, i LOOOOOOOOOOVED when batman hooked the truck and it flipped over, AWSOME!!

  • it is.

  • That was brilliant. The timing was spot on, especially the bit when he breaks through the glass. I wish they included something like this, just as a nod to the old films.

  • The music starts off good. With the trumpets and fanfare but then it gets worse at 0:23 and is not even suitable for the film.

  • I quite like what you've done here. I admit I was sceptical the themes would match, but they do. Admittedly it does change the tone of the clip to more like the Shumacher movies...

  • the best score: "Batman 1989"- Danny Elfman, hands down.-

  • fuck YOU!

  • Meh.

  • You people are taking this way too seriously. This is just for fun. Enjoy it for what it's worth.

  • Elfman's score doesn't work - it completely misses the tone and mood of this movie. Leave movie scoring to the professionals, huh?

  • Haven't heard than one before. But that's why these videos are fake and not real. Why so serios?

  • Elfman's suite would never work out in Nolan's movie. It's sounds cartoonish.

  • it does suit it but zimmer/howard's work is alot better

  • I agree the Zimmer/Howard soundtrack suits better with the Nolan's approach from Batman movies. Diferent context requires different approaches, but in the action sequences, the Elfman's version is so much powerful, vibrating and the melody lines are so beatiful. Zimmer/Howard soundtrack loses in the action sequences...

    Zimmer masterpiece: Gladiator

    Howard masterpiece: not yet composed

Elfman masterpiece: Batman and Edward Scissorhands

    Thanks for your consideration!!!

  • It suits the Batpod well. Anything suits it well.

  • @adalbinha For James Newton Howard try Signs, The Fugitive, The Sixth Sense for just a start. He is a very powerful composer. Much more than Zimmer in my opinion. And he does not require a team of ghost writers for his scores, nor is he as repetitive, nor bland, and much more melodic. The power of Gladiator came from Holst. Zimmer had a much stronger role in the new Batman scores as well.

  • @adalbinha I reckon Zimmer's masterpieces would probably be Sherlock Holmes/Pirates of the Caribbean. but I agree with you on everything else. Nice editing, well done.

  • Too much energy. It gives the film a more upbeat tone and I think it should be very dark and grim like the score that Zimmer made establishes.

  • It's very interesting. I believe it gives the scene an energy reminiscent of the 1989 film... but unfortunately that's why it should be left in the past. I'm not knocking your work here at all, man, I love it. I'm just saying it's my opinion that the music should be left with what it best suited.

  • this actually funny...although both films were 100% different, the music could be substittued and still work, only on action sequences though

  • No, fuck YOU nicolegoesboom!

  • lol here here
