in Vista 32 WMM click the video at the left side of the timeline and you'll see the clips audio displayed - mouse over that and rightclick - then click MUTE and hey presto silent video stream to overlay with your own music.

that isn't really removing audio, say you want to remove audio from one clip and put music on it that would work, however say you also want a clip after that with it's original sound... guess what! You can't hear it, so what do you do then?
