many "fat" cats could have bloated livers due to cardiomyopathy brought on by old age (12-15 is considered the average age of a house-cat that dies of old age)

imo, i would start putting a 13 year old cat on heart medication and diuretics to help keep fluids from building up just to be preemptive. About 3 months before my cat had heart failure, I could've sworn he'd live at least another 1-2 years, but about 3-4 days before death he had a little bit of labored breathing. 28 hrs later aorta clot
