@sonnetxi you would be better served telling that to Youtube. These are great quality vids until they get uploaded here. I've tried everything, it's not on my end... and thank you.
@bladestormviking dude, i live in Nebraska. And being an American doesn't make you ignorant... if you had said slung shield the first time, i wouldn't have bothered correcting you. Perhaps it's a terminology thing, but i wanted to be clear.
@skallagrimm oh so it works fairly well dos it?? excellent, the reason i ask is that the first time i showed up and was allowed to train with my current renactment group, they gave me a axe alot like the manmman axe, i realesed how good a hooking weapon it was, but *since we cant go for the face my direct attack route was removed, and trying to hook a shield aside and use the 'horn' of he axehead to stab the chest, never worked, so i wondered if the vikings had a weapon that can do both decently
@elgostine well, the boarspear is a great example of a hooking weapon with a thrusting point ahead of it, but all axes are pretty much effective that same way, too. What may look like thrusts to the face are actually done out over the shoulder... about the same spot as the shoulder strike in "the fives". It looks menacing, which is what we're going for, but actually pretty safe. Notice how the spear goes above his head, or is pointing down when i cross sides? Never straight across at face level.
@skallagrimm mm i try the idea of pulling down the shield and striking the head or shoulder, but this might be just a deficiancy of the handle length despite my long arms because whenever i try that, it doesnt usually end well.
I very much enjoyed watching that. About the thrust, it is harder to see with the angle and practically no experience myself, I would hate that coming near my head though, probably start freaking out really bad inside.
I would never thrust near the face. Those are actually over the shoulder, wide of the head until I'm past, then coming back I hook the shield, tho it may be hard to see with the angle.
i wish your uploads were of better quality, these vids are gold

@skallagrimm sorry to bring so much of my american ignorance to light, but i was referring to what equipment you were using; spear and slung shield.

elgostine 9 months ago
@elgostine I would say it was very common... would've had to been, as well as it works.

Couple of thrusts near the face, is that legal for you guys? I know different groups have different rules.
