i have a few yr old brand name pc, C2D e4700, premium 650W PSU. whenever i disconnect power cable i have to open the case and manually reconnect PSU connector to the board, otherwise it won't start. if pc is always connected to outlet and i shut it down it boots up without any problems and works well. what's wrong with my pc? any ideas? all caps are good, no signs of burning or physical damage.

Im putting my 2 cents for the personwho wrote ((why does my computer lag)). Here is the scoop. Seems like your computer is fairly decent but what I find is that people tend to mx out all the cool graphic setings in the game itself. Sometime your video card can support and and MOST of the time it cannot. Try reducing some of the settings in the game option for video settings and give it a shot. Atleast do it just to see if it reduces the lag...........

@kylephantom4 try going to the bios and make your hard drive a priority it sounds like to me its not a motherboard or a power supply issue or ram something is making it not go farther then dos remove any discs in your drive too or anything that you don't need hooked to the laptop

My early 2006 20 inch iMac intel core 2 duo has had a problem for about a year now that causes it to randomly die and not turn back on when i press the power button. In fact, through months of experience with this issue, I've learned that the ONLY way it turns back on is if I unplug the power cord after it dies; the longer the power cord stays plugged in, the longer it takes for the computer to turn back on; but it is always random, i.e. 2 hours 18 hours 2 weeks. Anyone know what's wrong???

Or your computer failed at POST and something is dislodged, it doesn't have to be your power supply or motherboard directly, how useless.

I've known my computer not to boot, because when I was cleaning it out, I didn't install one of my RAM chips correctly.

If you fork out for a new HDD drive, then take it back because you found the problem, you're most likely stuck with a Hard drive that would be good for nothing

it could be a number of things, the most common problem i have found with others, is that the inside of the computer is very dirty and dusty, if you're fine with voiding the warrenty then you should take out the RAM, , dust off the FAN and MOTHERBOARD clean the RAM chips and RE-SEAT it, ( put it back in )... if else, make sure the hard drive is good - not damaged or bent , also make sure the READER on the hard drive it working.....

To be frank the warranty is only a line, this line states: "Hey, if you don't know how to take care of your computer, no touchy inside here. If you do know how to fix a computer, why in the world did you buy a computer from us in the first place?"

This video also forgot to mention if someone does an upgrade, some components aren't compatible with certain motherboards, which can cause a short to the motherboard and it won't boot up.

Poor advice.This problem can be caused by many many issues,knowing the hardware and sofware bootstrap loader will help,but many times its Mobo related.If it starts from the off its unlikely to be the power supply unless it re boots etc.

@tubeguy918 Could be major issue,the blinking cursor is the Graphics card initialising after that comes the POST,if that don`t happen its hardware failure,power related maybe.Does your drive spin then nothing?Compaq have known issues with models 3-4 years old.

@weldean46 I have tried the ram with one stick, two sticks and all 6 sticks and that seems to be working, and the computer reconizes all 12gb.. the hard drive seems to be working and what i will do is try another hard drive.. the processor also shows up in windows (when i get that far) as its not getting to it full 2.6mhz, but 1.6mhz.. i have ordered a new power supply with more watts, which will be here 2moro.. will let u know how it goes..

i would recommend changing out the motherboard. you can find cheap ones on ebay.

Hi there,

Have you ever had a monitor develop ghosted lines across the screen with very bad contrast? Lines of text (or graphic bars) will flow across the whole screen even if the site is not full screen. Replacing the monitor didn't help. I'm thinking it might be a video card - it has a nVidia gForce2mx. It's my son's computer and I'm not ready to buy him a new one. If I can find one of these old cards, I'd like to try that first - IF you think that might be the problem. Thanks!
