  • faill. he retired last year

  • Good to see a young Gilchrist.I am a big fan of Gilchrist. He really looks so young and charming. We rarely see him defending a cricket ball like that, don't we.

  • aww he looks dreammmy =D and his voice sounds so muchh younger. love gilly xx

  • Healy stood in his way for too long

  • i love him out here

  • lol Michael Wade at the end saying England be warned........lol he wasnt wrong

  • England be warned. lol

  • Gilly is a true legend.

  • Nice 80s hair Gilly! LOL. What a player though, and how much are Australia missing his runs now

  • afridi is a very poor player.

  • i like him what a legend absolutly amazing

  • Good thing Healy kept him out of the side in the 90's or Gilly would have been tormenting us even more.

Thanks to Richmond for helping bring on another ossie player

    - you tw*ts !

  • carefully look at 00:35 and 01:35 also .its SHANE BOND bowling. look at his BOWLING ACTION

  • He'd have to be only 13 there if it was. Not very likely.

  • Gilly was born in 1971, it looks like him, and his autobiography talks about playing for Richmond Cricket Club. Any more evidence needed?

  • Read Kingangad's post above and you'll see that I'm refuting that he sees Shane Bond in the vid. I'm not disputing that this is Gilchrist at all. It's obviously Gilchrist in this video

  • He would have been 15 though...you sure it isn't just good likeness?

  • An unforgettable legend

  • England be warned, how very true that turned out to be

  • be warned indeed!!

  • gilly played for my club

  • Amazing that they picked him for greater things so early.

  • gilly is the best wicket keeper in the history of cricket

  • Brendon McCullum, gilly was the best batting keeper

  • sangakkara, allan knot and rod marsh challenge even mcullum

  • How about Mark Boucher? Most dismissals in tests & will soon over take gilly & he still has 5 years left in him.

  • funny looking bloke haha but an awesome player. Gillys my hero

    Miss him heaps

  • haha 80's gilly, its like a duran duran video.

  • Sorry, silverchair84, but what's that based on? I dislike a lot of the Australian's, but there is nobody I can think of with Adam Gilchrist's talent mixed with so much humility. The man has changed the way the game is played and in that respect has had more influence than either Warne or McGrath. He always speaks highly of his colleagues and is respectful to his opponents, and I've never once heard him (or heard of him for that matter) acting disrespectfully toward anyone. So fuck off.

  • there was an american football game at wembley?

  • A real hotty when he was younger :P

  • Good God how was this footage ever discovered? Gilly is so awesome, love him!

  • wasim akram used to call him "wanker"

  • whats that got to do with anything?

  • Pity Gilchrist was a better cricketer and had more success than Wasim.

  • They both had great success. Gilly had it with the bat and gloves and Wasim had it with the ball.

  • England be warned all rite :L

  • my opinion of gilchrist went from being very high to very low in the space of the last 2 months. He is a CLASS A TWAT

  • Whys that?

  • He looks like young Bryan Adams.

  • Well, Gilly is alltime gr8. I hope you guys had noted the footwork of Gilly in this clip. It has changed after his international appearance.

  • One of my favourite Aussies. Great guy, absolute legend!

  • lol thats funny.. "well there was the ashes...but we lost that" - austtralia's dominance continues...

  • "worse could be to come" haha and it sure did ya pommy bastards.

  • ZOMG BABY GILLY SO CUTE. <3

  • Feel sorry to see such an innocent looking 17-yr-old playing for Australia and losing his innocence.

  • Gilly was a very innocent cricketer , but punter and company have spoiled his image........

  • England be warned indeed, simultaneously awesome, hilarious and fascinating.

  • where u found this video?thanks for uploading someone truly said that this video is priceless.

  • in this video carfully look at "1min 30 sec".its sahne bond balling to him.LOOK AT HIS BOWLING ACTION.

  • in this video carfully look at "1min 30 sec".its sahne bond balling to him.LOOK AT HIS BOWLING ACTION. AT 35 SEC ALSO.

  • man that video is priceless where on earth did you find this its gold. i would bet gilly back then would more construct and sort of build his innings rather than destroy attacks and be the explosive batsman we all know him to be

  • haha they said it first at bbc.. england be warned

  • i respeect gilchrist aussie former batsman

  • named my puppy after this guy, Gilchrist Adam Sydow or as we all call him Gilly :)

  • "Be Warned"...indeed!

What a fantastic player he turned out to be and he didn't get into the test side for 10 more years, Healey kept him out.

  • great man

only 2nd to afridi and jayasuria at big hitting

  • Gilly is better than those guys ONLY because he was consistant in his big hitting, Afridi and Jayasuria, are inconsistant when they decide to go big. Afridi averages less than half Gilly anyways

  • good point

  • I agree with this point about Afridi, but why do you say this about Jayasuriya?

  • @aussiestuff He may better than Afridi, but he will always be second, third, fourth, and then some to Viv Richards. Gibbs is a just a little bit better than Gilly.

  • @creakylol

"Gibbs is a just a little bit better than Gilly." - You mean the other way round, Gibb's would never be classed in the same league as Gilly, Gilly was just one-off & superior.

  • @Crkt4Eva yeah, no doubt, Gilchrist was destructive. Gibs had this uncanny ability. So, purely judging the both on ability, I would say Gibs had more. That's why I say Gibs is just a little bit better than Gilly. Only just. I guess since Gilchrist contributed with the glove too, he should get more marks than Gibs at the end of day. Although, Gibs was a excellent filder too.

  • Umm no hes the best hitter of his era. Afridi isnt consistent. Every bowler Gilly was the most feared batsman to come out at number 7... just amazing.

  • what about sanath jayasuriya?

  • I dont recall saying anything about him?

  • no he was better than both

  • I wonder how many would have guessed at that time that he would end up being an aussie legend !!

If I'm not wrong, he was dropped from NSW and had to move to Western Australia before entering into the national side. This just tells you that having talent alone doesn't guarantee a success, and one must never stop trying !

  • He actually wasn't dropped from NSW, he decided to move to WA after being unable to usurp the NSW captain and wicketkeeper, Phil Emery. He was still able to play for NSW on his batting ability alone but he considered wicketkeeping his primary role.

  • i wasnt born yet. engaland be warned, lol, they must have taken the warning seriously and made him english like geraint jones when healy was at the top.

    BIG MISTAKE.

  • love how he says one week u could come up against the next test baller or batsmen and at 00:39 he plays his classic backfoot drive

  • england be warned lol

  • 17 and he got 11 centuries in one season...I'm 17 and havent made my first. Some people are really just born with it.

  • wow wat a great clip

  • He might only be 17 but his ears are fully grown!!!

  • i used to play for richmond

  • he was 17 turned 18 that year ...made his ODI debut ....7 years later in 1996 a month abt 3 weeks shy of his 25th birthday , he made his test debut a good 10 years after this interview in 99 a week shy of his 28th birthday .......

he had to wait up till Ian Healy hung his gloves ....!

  • As an Indian, I am so proud to see him take Dilip Doshi's name -- someone our own players have NO idea of...he appears to be so mature for someone so young...think about this folks 1988/89 was around teh time that Ian Healy started becoming a regular...& if I'm not wrong, Adam made his debut in his late 20s (29?)...so, he had to wait so long before playing with the big boys...I think excess cricket in the last decade and half or so has blunted our ability to appreciate the nuances of the game...

  • its amazing how mature he was at 17. a born athlete!

  • Hahaha! Have you heard him pronouncing his 'T's' in words like county and wetter. It's so strange to see him so young here!

Great video though and a legendary player, thanks for posting it.

  • absoultely priceless find...thanks for the upload.

  • england be warned. never a truer word was spoken

  • Great clip. What a gem of a player!

  • This is GOLD! great find!!! :]

I used to have an old WWOS story be Ken Sutcliffe on the Aussie Cricket academy that included a very chubby leg spinner called Shane Warne (from around '87).

Wish I knew what i did with it... :\

  • A legend that will be sorely missed by all cricket fans worldwide.

  • At one time, Gilly wanted to be the world's fastest bowler, but one day, he went to a sports shop in Victoria and saw a pair of shiny wicket keeping gloves in the display window. His parents returned to the shop later on and surprised him with them for Christmas that year (1981).

  • good on ya gilly, awsome to see nothin had changed in the way he batted. also this was before he became a keeper, he was an allrounder back then

  • He was a keeper back then although his batting was first string to his bow. His bowling has never been anything to write home about!!

  • I like the "England be warned" bit. Nice piece. Thanks for uploading mate.

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

I read recently that he was miserable with homesickness during his time in England in 1989. You can kind of tell - he doesn't seem the smiley fellow we know now. I wish I could go back in time and give him a hug (and tell him to watch out for the swinging ball in 2005).

  • He was 17 and at times was homesick - no doubt about that. I never remember him being miserable though. Indeed he has often referred to that year as the most important one of his development. He backs that up now through the Adam Gilchrist Scholarship which send a young Aussie over the play for Richmond each summer.

  • And go all the way to the top he did :)

  • Wow, fantastic find. I'd never, ever have guessed this was anywhere near as long ago as 1989, Gilchrist is so mature in every way. Wonder how many people would have thought it'd be 10 years and more before he made his Test debut tho.

  • this is fkn awesome

  • we'll miss you a lot gilly.

    good luck for the future

  • gilly with a mullet! got to love it!

  • Farewell Gilly.

  • hi gilly ....we all will miss u in india.....bye bye gilly..

  • Farkin' Legend!

    Goodbye Gilly.

  • great video...notice though that gilchrist didn't play a single attacking shot there! Just shows you need a good basic technique before you can start taking apart a bowling attack.

  • I love the last sentence: England be warned! I wonder if this Gilchrist bloke turned out to be any good for the Aussies:P. This guy changed cricket in many ways and its been a treat to see him play. It sucks that he's 36 now and we're only going to see him for 2-3 years. A gem!

  • oh i wish it was two years mate watchingf cricket will never be the same for me amymore
