the band were at their best when they were influenced by grunge, in my opinion, and i would also say they were influenced by shoegaze, the pixies, the byrds, big star and a few others.

I agree with you guys re Gerard's songs, they were always my favourite Teenage Fanclub songs. He was/is one of the best songwriters to come out of Scotland ever.

The first album had some serious Dinosaurisms - and that was a good thing which they freely acknowledged in interviews. There's a version on youtube of J mascis returning the favour with a cover of 'everything flows'.
