  • She said in some old interview that the Pakistani govt. was against this form of art and so she was hindered because of the internal policies governing performing arts.

Why didn't she make her way to India then? What's the point of compromising on talent this way?

  • @Desi4evah because back then the relations between India and Pakistan were CONSIDERABLY more sour than they were today. Zia Ul Haque's efforts towards "Islamization" of Pakistan were in DIRECT conflict with India's effort to make a Hindu-centric Secular state. As sometimes noticed today, a Pakistani wouldn't have been welcome to perform in India and be supported because of the "dushman mulk" sentiment. She would've been deported back to Pakistan where she'd be killed...back then.

  • Oh wow where can I find her she needs to teach me these moves!! I wish Iraqi woman had a similar dance to this

  • i have no words...im seppchless...im joining her classes in lahore....

  • OMG!!!! SHE Z MY FAVR8 KATHAK DANCER!!!!

  • mind blowing......amazing performer.....

  • That was beautiful. She has an amazing amount of control.

  • i want to be like her but i cant.

  • Flawless.

  • Her fantastic perfomance takes you back in time of majestic moghuls. Thank you for uploading such rare video, it truly is a treat.

  • lovely coustume n ghungroos

  • she worships her ghungroos im sure...... nort even a nano second has she wasted the video length very rare

    thanks nahidji

  • She is too amazing for words. She makes it look so easy but you know it's damn hard. Watched a million kathak videos and none are as perfectly done and as intricate as this-or her dances in general. The detail and the difficulty level is amazing.

  • @Zitagirl: I don't know whether I can be any judge of it but it seems to me Fasih Ur Rehman, Sandip Mallick and Shambhavi Vaze are also excellent dancers.

  • pakistans still got so much talent x

  • just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She's amazing

  • wow! unbelievable performance...and some fancy footwork as well!

  • She was awesome.... loved the music too

  • her bells are so far apart. Thats why it make so much sound.

  • her ghungroos are SO cool

  • Is she a Lucknow or Jaipur gharana exponent?

  • Actually neither as, at THIS point, she hadn't gone to the maestro Pt Birju Maharaj yet. This style she learned from her Pakistani guru, Gulam Maharaj.

  • I see. It must be hard to go back and forth between Pakistan and India since these two countries are at times very close to getting at eachother throats.

  • She used to live in the UK/London in the 1980s so maybe she started with Pandit-ji some time then. I would presume it's much easier going from the UK to India than Pakistan as you mentioned.

  • Aadaab Hippocampus! Like Trip said, she started off with Maharaj Ghulam Hussain Khattak of Pakistan. There´s actually a fourth Gharana established now: Lahore Gharana. I love it and plan to join inshallah. My walida is from Lahore so it means extra much to me besides the fact that Khatak is actually very appreciated in Pakistan nowadays. It´s not exactly as bad as some ppl like to portray it. Yes, if guys do it, it´s still a bit "eyebrow raising" but otherwise...it all depends...

  • ...depends on WHO´s doing it. Might sound strange but if one´s family is known as a "respectable" one, their kids get away with a lot of things a poor person would be judged hard for. However that doesn´t have anything to do with religion. It´s actually the same for westerners in some areas......

Sorry, too much info maybe but I´m thinking aloud today lolz! And I´m so tired of every amazing Khatak perf. by Nahid jee being "polluted" by comments about Indo-Pak relations.

    Peace!

  • Tolerable but a bit cloying in places.

  • Amazing !!

  • this is SPLENDID !

  • thx but how can its possable? plz help me and give me the right way.

  • sorry i can't help you become like her.. lol.. theres no right way.. haha

  • ok tell me where u from/and u know kathak dance? i am doing dance but in my family prm.

  • im from USA.. yea im learning kathak....ur learning it as well?

  • i want to be like her but i am pathan male and its not possable for me : (

  • haha i loved ur comment.. :)

  • where u from ? plz u help me?

  • :) i feel your pain. i've been doing kathak since i was little, but no one takes me seriously no matter how hard i practice and how good i am because i'm a persian kowli girl. my problem was not being born indian or pakistani. darn!!

  • i adore her.

  • It's Kathak but there is some choreography thrown in. One needs to please the Western audiences by doing what they expect.

  • One must also EDUCATE an audience to expect better & better & that applies to Indian audiences too!!

    Nick

  • I agree with what you're saying since both Indian and American scoieties tend to prefer aeshetic appeal than knowing the information behorehand. I would rather read the myths first and try to understand the dance pieces than to do it in reverse.

  • Yes I would rather learn the stories behind the dance first too. Or at least as I'm learning the actual dance.

    Nick

  • Awesome! Not your average Kathak performance- loved it!

  • amazing

  • I love the way she dnces, I will learn alot from her, thank you for sharing this video with us. Nurshazadi
