  • You are the shit....right there!Pretty cool!

  • LUKE HOLLAND PLEASE WATCH THIS OMGGGGGGGGG

  • Dat awkward moment when you subscribe to a drummer when your a guitarist.

  • @wrightdrums Hey man, i cant read sheet music, although feel that i should learn to, but I noticed that you read (or at least refer to) the sheet music during most of the song. Just wondering, wouldnt you just be able to remember each part after practicing/hearing the track so many times?

Or does it just become easier to follow the sheet?

  • @jerrydilger if you cant read seet music then listen to the song and remember it that way. for me with more difficult and busy drum parts i have to right them out first

  • Man your a gun! Nailed it!

And I really appreciate how youve also made this an instructional video aswell as a cover.. I love that part in the chorus, but could never really figure it out. Thank you so much!

  • i will try to incorporate this tips on my tracks, thank you

  • amazing, subbin' nowww

  • Great job! Thank You!

  • words defeat me.

  • Nicely done outro of the song with epic cough :D

  • This is so pro!

  • 5:03

  • Evolutionary Sleeper by Cynic, I NEED to see how to play the high hat and do double bass.

  • wow great stuff dude, love ur playing

u should try A vicious reforming of features by After the burial

as i think it kinda suits the style of ur other vids

n check out chimerical by AURAS aswell

  • you're a fucking genius

  • you're such a damn beast man!

  • Can you do some transcripts to some ABR songs? It would be great to get some sheet music for that!!

  • @minibus2010 yeah man, i might not get to an actual cover just now but may transcribe a few and have them on my website. whats songs you thinking mate?

  • @wrightdrums White Washed, Meddler, Thirty and Seven, and maybe The Eleventh Hour?

  • @wrightdrums Anything off of Messengers :)

  • @wrightdrums Composure's tom fill with hi hat would be awesome :) !!

  • do Caves from Elitist

  • hatschi! bless ya ;-)

    very well done!

  • Subscribing to you and travis orbin is he best the best i ever did

  • i hate this band for personal reasons haha but this cover is great dude. Your a rediculously fluent drummer

  • @gnarwhale11 Why?

  • sick cover!

  • Out of curiosity, have you tried Orbin's original interpretation of the song? Not that there's much difference, it just seems that Halpern's has more groove and flows a little better, while Orbin's is a bit more precise and a bit harder to play.

  • 3:40 my god that looks like it would be so hard to play in time with the click, let alone learn how to play the variations together.

  • 6:15 sounds sooo good

  • I could only wish to be this good...

  • wow....how caould anyone dislike this??

  • that sneeze at the end lol

  • @tylerduncan000 sounds more like a cough

  • Dude this is so helpful!!! Thank you so much for uploading - the score is super useful too. Spot on man!

  • Stunning, absolutely stunning

  • 赞~~~~~~~~~~

  • AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE

  • No ghost notes in the beginning? :(

  • @walrusfetuses yes there is...

  • Awesome man, thanks a lot

  • The first bar of the chorus part seems to be wrong on the transcript from your website, you should probably get that fixed...

  • Hey Troy, really looking at covering this myself now or at least learning it. Can't seem to get the transcript off the website though, it just appears not to be there :S

  • @FakeMessiah94 yeah mate some of the site is getting rebuilt. like the facebook page in the description and ill announce when its back online. Cheers

  • @wrightdrums Hey troy, i have the sheet music, and i was just wondering how come you didn't put in the ghost notes? just out of curiousness, is just too long and tedious? I'm just having a hard time hearing them within the song?

  • @Ileikdrumzz I write these charts up so i can read and learn the song myself then offer them to others to learn themselves. Ghost notes should occur naturally (generally in between the hats) and to write them in with a bracket around them - () it becomes too messy to read

  • You do impressive work.

I would love to see some Born of Osiris.

    Maybe Behold? :D

  • Who's Luke Holland?

  • How did you get so good?

What do you think of neil peart...

    richard christy... gene hoglan?

  • Hey Wright what is the size of your snare

  • Hey mate sounding great like normal :).

What ear monitors are you using? Cheers

  • @BenStormonthMusic Hey Ben, im using Westone UM2's here. I use sensaphonics now.. Check out 1964 ears man way cheaper

  • You're a monster Troy, love all your stuff. You ever play any gigs down in Syd?. My band would love to see you play live. we're escapistofficial . com, if you get a minute we'd love if you checked it out. all the best mate

  • TEACH ME YOUR WAYS!!!

  • Been playing for a few years now, just getting into this sorta stuff though.. I don't even think it's humanly possible :l

  • I like your movements

  • @metalgrunger06 First off, stop comparing all covers to Cobus' covers. He isn't the benchmark for drum covers. Also, don't call him "arrogant Cobus." Cobus isn't arrogant, and is a talented drummer. He is very grateful for everything he has ,and is by no means arrogant.

Is he as good as Troy is? Probably not. But that doesn't mean you need to compare the two.

  • @PentucketXC05 Haha well said mate. I do agree! Cobus is becoming a better and more mature player by the day! He is the creator of his success!

  • @PentucketXC05 In MY opinion, Troy is better, don't get me wrong, Cobus is awesome!, but Troy knows the technical side of the instrument too, I was watching a video of Cobus earlier and he had NO idea of any note values, how to read music or things like that. This isn't a comparing match, but I just love Troys stuff.

  • travis orbin.

  • @levenorion actually he is not playing the orbin version but the halpern version :P still incredible!!

  • Subbed, great job on this one, looking forward to more awesome covers!

  • Is there any difference (in sound... or theoretically) when you used -5- instead of triplets (or -6-) on your tab at 4:59?

  • @formyfor yes becaause you would be using an extra note, the beat would end on the 6th hit instead of the 5th hit so you pretty much would have an extra note and the feeling of the grove would be different

  • Loool! That sneez in the end is epic... :D

  • For how long have you been playing?

  • The walk, lesson!

  • This is amazing

  • 3:31, the "metal" face XD

  • I just commented on two of your other videos. and holy sh... you just got me so amped on life. But seriously though.. I kinda feel like like giving up/killing myself.. and TOTALLY inspired at the same time.

  • The man is DIALED.

  • Did you write out the transcription yourself? If so, great job. If only more drummers had theory and writing skills. Very good job.

  • sphere beaters ftw

  • man, you are so good! truly a pleasure seeing this positivity, this kind of talent and instruction for FREE on the internet!

  • i can understand what ur sayin...its when i look at the sheet music u lose me lol. i personally cant read music for drums i learn from watchin ur movements lol but great lesson nonetheless

  • First of all, your playing astounds me! You seriously rock!

I'm just wondering, what type of crash is the one on the right of your set?

  • @DrummersRock23 is an 18" evolution crash

  • you sure know your stuff man. props.

  • TESSSERACT cover or medley would be awesome

  • Very impressive

  • jesus, right at the end of this video i just yelled "FUCK YEAH!" fucking awesome man

  • Matt Halpern would be beyond proud.

  • 8:18 is where the real music begins. Cough.

  • Thanks Troy this is awesome! Time to Practice!

  • The master himself: /watch?v=EjibYYhIsAk

  • Very good indeed! Very talented and also really nice to know that you have the skills to transcribe it and understand musically what they are playing. Very impressive.

  • awesome, i wish i have a place where i can practice drumming....

  • Comment removed

  • To be more specific, bars 24 and 25

Unfortunately I learned it already...gotta re-learn it now haha

  • yeah mate on the transcript i have written i have transcribed that part as close to the actual song as possible. at 0:16 as stated i play the wasy i've seen matt play it live

  • The transcript for the Chorus at 0:16 doesn't match the one you have in the video! :(

  • Very good man!

  • @LukeHollandDrums mate stumbled across your Animals cover! I said to myself 'hang on a minute, isn't this the guy i saw do the like a G6 cover?' haha playing well man. Looking forward to more from you!!!

  • Australian.

    *cums*

  • I think a good cover for you would be tesseract, concealing fate pt. 1!!

  • im not a fan of periphery, but fucking hell the drums are amazing.

  • Really nicely done, love it! Consider yourself subscribed to! :)

  • i cant do the snare accent part!!!! iv got the transcript on my comp (nice work btw) but its just tooo confusing to do with all the hihats and ghosts and accents.

    amazing video though cheers XD

  • Great Job Dude, Good Technique! How cold they even dislike this???

  • god bless you

  • I don't enjoy the fact that so few people have seen this.

  • Agree on a Periphery medley, would be so sick

  • australians are smart!

  • Comment removed

  • The sound of the HHX Ozone in my <3 !

  • I'd hate to be this talented because you'll never find a guitarist or other band members who skill can match your drumming

  • this video makes me cry on how talented this guy is.

  • What software do you use when transcribing? Im looking for something easy and smooth, and if its got midi playback thats good to :):):)

  • @kungmat sibelius bro :)

  • Teaching & Playing! You are an exception man... i bet even Travis & Matt can't do it!

  • Dude what I admire the most is your courage and confidence of putting your iPhone over the drums, fearless of a missed beat over there :D

  • What about a Periphery Drum Medley? I would totally freak out!

  • 1 dislike is travis orbin

  • That "beat displacement" part.. isn't that metric modulation, because the snare jump onto another tempo?

  • Comment removed

  • @nextinline777 Periphery aren't a scene/emo band and they aren't particularly confident in their vocals either, which is why they also released an absolutely exemplary instrumental version of their album. You should check out their band members Misha Mansoor and Matt Halpern (especially the latter for his drumming skills!). I agree that the vocals sound too whiny, but honest to God the guitar playing is absolutely fantastic. Don't be ignorant, man - look up the band members.

  • @UberCoolBen periphery shines in misha and matt, but the vocals add a nice touch i think

  • you keep it up man i love how you cover all types of rock man good job man

  • you make me hate myself for playing drums for 12 yrs and still not being this good... however this type of music isn't generally my style (thought I love listening to it) but I just wish I had the technique you have

  • kinda felt the snare is mixed too soft, but this is the best drum video I've ever watched! subbed!

  • Ur a beast dude....cool

  • This is the most in depth and accurate drum lesson I have found on youtube. You did a great job breaking down the different parts- I can't wait to learn this song.

  • @kingwaffleIII Thanks man. Unreal to hear, hope you nail it!

  • My ringtone is the start of this song, and at 5:04 I thought my phone started ringing! Haha!

  • OMG Another epic song you have done!

  • i'll try it and fail i'm sure haha XD awsome lesson cover and quality vids dude.

  • Nice work man. You are one talented dude. What are the chances of you doing a cover of "The River Song" by Cog? I would pay good money for that sheet music! haha

  • Awesome video! I sort of wish the sound of your drums were the ones tracked for the original track. They sound great man!

  • you are a scholar and a Djentleman.

i didnt think anyone could groove this song like Orbin, but you proved me wrong.

fuck yeah for heavy, groovy aussie drummers.

  • Seriously. Amazing player, amazing teacher. I could probably pick up drums just from watching your videos.

  • @8StringInsanity unreal to hear mate. check out this new channel of mine. ive dedicated it to only drum lessons :)

  • No mention of the orbinator, sadface

  • @lyosiris wow what an amazing player! he used to play with periphery right?

  • @wrightdrums he did, as far as im aware he composed the drum part for this track

  • @wrightdrums he wrote the drum parts for a good portion of that album, let alone this whole song

  • @wrightdrums yup

  • @wrightdrums Yes, he used to play with Periphery; then SEA until the hiatus. Now he records for many different bands, he is THE BEST drummer there is... in my opinion.

  • @wrightdrums Oh yea he did, check him out! His account name on youtube is "shaftninja". Crazy stuff.

And nice cover by the way, but i couldnt hear the 16th snare part clear. Tune your snare up a bit! :P

    Thats the original: /watch?v=EjibYYhIsAk

  • just when i was gonna ask you to post a cover of periphery i find that you already have! awesomeeeeee.

  • @Spacecowboyy btw, where do you get the sheet music for all this stuff?!

  • @Spacecowboyy i write it myself. will be available from my website soon. cheers mate

  • Sick stuff man!

  • what type of china is that? the smaller one you're playing at 3:07?

  • @alex164 its a 16" stagg. 19" sabian paragon is the other one. thanks

  • Mindblowing!!!

  • thats a fricking pro drum cover.

  • good job guy !!!!

  • Hey Troy! Awesome as usual! Now cover Origin or April Song by TesseracT :-) Cheers from Sweden

  • @wrightdrums - even i wud like to c u cover April Song... Cheers from India

  • I might subscribe and I'm not even a drummer

  • theres always gotta be that one jack off who dislikes the video. Douche

  • You should make a video about Periphery's song called Light!! ;) I don't know what the hell is going on in that song so uhmmm... Thumbs up so Troy can see this!! :D

  • OMG! this is so sick!

  • Ohhhh man, that was epic. Loving this channel. I'm loving that you write all the drums out and are planning on posting them! I suck at learning songs by ear so much, more of a visual learner and iv been planning on trying to work out that chorus section for a while but never could be bothered. The lessons included in your vids are soooo helpful too.

Few questions: How long have you been playing?

Does the hi hat foot pulse come natural?

Do you write the music youself?

    Do you work out?

    Thanks!

  • @rezOnanceUK Great man thanks! Playing for 15 yrs. Yes (there are exercises you can do to help) - in my book (not finished yet). Yes i write all my music in Sibelius. haha

  • You really glued me in on the 5 beat on the double pedal. I've played those with my hands alone and they are highly difficult. Your really good at breaking down songs and actually making them sound more interesting once giving a beyond understandable explanation of them.

  • I have to say, I'm really looking forward to the sheet music for this piece.

  • @rhythmkeeper009 shouldnt be long mate. just waiting on the website "guy" to allow me to add them

  • Phuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! awsome man!!!!!!!!! =D

  • Good playing, and good teacher too. I don't play drums at all, but this is helping me out a lot. I swear, prog/djent drumming has got to be the most sophisticated drumming on the planet.

  • @wrightdrums, OH! yeah, i like some of the EP better than some of the tracks from the album like "the walk" i like better. not because of the weird endin. O.o but i was wondering, i im a beginner drummer going from Grade10 piano to guitar to drums and i wanted to know what dbl kick you would suggest thats not just for beginners but also for amazing talented experts like yourself. I dont want to practice on something begginner than just spend more money on a better one later.

  • Your playing is so tight yet so relaxed, so glad I'm subscribed.

  • The displacement of the snare which you pointed out in your pre-cover lesson reminds me of that bit in Buttersnips when the guitar riff goes out of sync with the drums. It's like my favourite Periphery moment ever.

  • EPIC. EPIC. Motherfucking epic. From one drummer to another, this is sick. Probably amongst the hardest kind of genres to play drums in. Great job, enjoyed it.

(I really don't mind the swearing, go ahead...)

  • you have to be in a band...please tell me youre in a band. also i agree with a guy before me. play some Sikth, they were a great band, or (probobly not too much your style but..) Veil of Maya would be BEAUTIFUL, youd probobly go for something a little more technical, so off their new album go for like unbreakable or Mowgli. just a request...hopefully you read this. TesseracT would be a great polyrhythm explanation video too or animals as leaders. sorry to spew a bunch of bands at you..

  • Biggest response so far. I'm putting it down to the cough.

  • Dude were do you live? Uk?

  • @seamdayzz Gold Coast Australia man
