  • Hey uhmm I had a question. We have two barred rock, one rhode island red and an easter egger. But our easter egger lays blue eggs. Why does yours lay red? Just wonndering, I was just curious about it.

  • Aww! Look at how happy she got! So adorable!

  • how sweet, what a great mother! Good job sweet heart, I am sorry you have to go through this every day.

  • aww she like my chicken but with a black head!

  • I'm so excited to start researching chickens. Thanks so much for the video. Indeed it is confusing when hatcheries mislabel the birds...us newbies don't know the difference! Anyhow, what a splendid looking hen you have!

  • How old is she? I have 2 EE'S just like her and I'm wondering when I can expect to see green eggs in the nesting box next to the usual Golden Comet's brown ones

  • I have an EE hen that looks just like yours and just made a video of her with a big worm we found. Ameraucana chicken breeders are really critical of EE chickens. I found that out as well. I have four EE hens that lay mint green, sky blue and olive green eggs. I love them. They lay way better than my "Purebred" Ameraucanas do. lol So much for the snobs. Thanks for sharing.

  • hi my hen has laid egg and i removed it out ,she lays egg every alternit days this is my first time plz help wht should i do

  • She is really beautiful.

  • Aww, good girl. How many chickens do you have? My chicken is sitting on some eggs and hasen't moved any tips?

  • Did the hen crow?!

  • I have changed the video name to be "EasterEgger" hen. When I got this hen as a day-old chick in 2008, she was sold to me by the feed store as an "Ameraucana". I had my doubts when I posted this video whether she was a pure Ameraucana and this was evident in my original entry when I wrote "Ameraucana/Easter Egger" in the description. There was nothing intentional about my mislabeling, merely a brand new and first time chicken-owner trying to post a funny video. Everyone be nice, please.

  • It's true that there is a difference between Aruacana, Ameraucana and Easter Eggers--but it's like owning a mixed Manx or a mixed Collie---if they look and behave like a Manx and a Collie---then most people refer to them as a Manx and as a Collie---still when selling the babies, the sellar can't provide papers. I prefer the mixed breeds--crosses between the aruacana and Ameraucana--- I don't like the rumpless and I like the tuffs along with muffs. The mixed lay better and are smarter too.

  • I can't wait for my Easter Egg hens to start laying!!!!

  • This isnt a Ameraucana chicken. She is an Easter Egger, or mutt chicken. Not the same thing as an Ameraucana or Araucana.

  • @BigFeatherFarm does it really matter...hell most people consider both breeds (Ameraucana and Araucana) to be easter eggers because the easter egger isn't even considered a real breed because they can lay blue or green eggs

  • Yes, it does.

There people who have spent countless hours, so much money, and have given so much effort to make the great breeds of Ameraucana and Araucana. So much effort to preserve the breeds - and to have them knocked down like nothing is extremely aggravating to all those who have spent this effort to preserve them, to perfect them, and to those that love the breeds.

Ameraucanas and Araucanas are REAL apa accepted breeds that have a standard of perfection. EasterEggers do not.

  • @BigFeatherFarm

    Whats the big deal?

Hybridizing is going to be the fate of most species on this planet.

We have been doing it for centuries.

  • I just explained the concept in the above paragraph.

You cannot possibly understand if you don't actively breed high quality animals, or haven't at any point in time.

The point is that people are claiming these mutts are something they aren't - that they are extremely rare breeds. Many Ameraucana and Araucana breeders/fanciers I have met feel that it is ruining the two breeds - as do I. Now, there is so much mis-information about the three breeds.

  • So what? She's still adorable!!!

  • I never said she wasn't.

I own 4 EasterEggers now - I have no clue about their backgrounds - and they are some of the most gorgeous birds I own.

However, there is a line that every RESPONSIBLE breeder and owner must cross. Selling these birds, or labeling them as extremely rare breeds is a mark against those that breed those breeds. EasterEggers are nothing more than mutt chickens with a blue egglaying ancestor. They are kind of like the blue egger version of a sexlink.

  • lol

  • dinner time!

  • i luv my americaunas

  • <3 :-)

  • i have the exact type of araucana. how old is yours and wen did it started laying the eggs. any advice. plz respond

  • My Ameraucana turned a year old in March. She began laying at approx 19 weeks old.

  • thnks. advice

  • @critterfarmgirl isnt an easter-egger also known as an araucana?

  • Araucana and Ameraucana are not the same breed....

  • Wasn't the egg more of a shade of brown?

  • That egg is kinda pinkish. I have 2 who lay pink eggs who aren't crossed, but still Easter Eggers. 2 out of my 9 Ameracaunas lay pink eggs.

  • That's neat. All the ones I have lay green and blue eggs. I wouldn't mind having a few that lay pink. Pale yellow would be cool too.

  • mine have more feathers on there heads

  • i have always wanted a chicken but my mom won`t let me

  • That Ameraucana chicken you have looks like it's mixed. I have some that are not mixed.
