NO NO NO...no cream cheese. Wrong! I don't know who started the cream cheese thing but it's not authentic Hungarian recipe....and actually it has a better consistency when you use margarine instead of butter, ...although not the healthiest but it makes for a better cookie.
I'm about half Hungarian and I have to say these are like heaven in your mouth. The clouds part and angels sing down from above honoring the glory that is within the kiffle.
Honestly my family has trouble getting the dough to behave. I'd love to know how you made yours. The nut filling is the best!
Some tips for kiffle dough: make sure the butter and cream cheese are COLD, not room temp. This will make mixing a bit hard, have a good mixer. Make the patties even in size, about 3 ounces each,Next, refrigerate the dough for at least 4 hours so the pattys are firm. Roll the out with confectioner's sugar, not flour. Roll them right from the fridge, do not let them set out and get soft. You will have to work quick in warm weather. Good Luck!
