  • It's Steve Owen from EastEnders!

  • The Spandau ballet was the nickname of a dogfight between Brit and German fliers in WW1. The german planes had twin Spandau macchine guns...hence the name. And from the ground it looked like a graceful mid air ballet.

  • If it wasn't for the song, i would cut this video after 2 seconds !!! This singer reminds me too much of my wicked ex !!!!

  • grew up to this song

  • hey a young lou diamond phillips on key board

  • 80's are the best!! today Music doesn't compare to the classic 80's!!!

  • Music !

  • Jon knows the truth

    Garfield is lying

    lying is not a crime

  • this is the souuund of my soulllll

  • @itskamonegi I second that emotion. ;)

  • @Bloodstroke1 Heavy Metal was invented in the UK, namely Birmingham in the west midlands. Go look it up. Heavy Metal definitely was not invented in the US. Rock music definitely has its roots in the US though.

  • @ckelley63 Learn how to spell before informing me of your opinion. Y'all have a nice day now.

  • this song is pure genius

  • GERINA DOVE is a FAT liar~

  • (continued) modern musical styles. Thus, the modern music industry is, indeed, American in origin.

That said, I believe it's a shame that most of today's so-called artists, in all genres of modern popular music, are mostly flash and show, and not all that much on actual talent and skill.

  • Nearly all modern popular music forms (R&B, Rap/Hip-Hop, Rock (Classic, 70s, Heavy Metal, etc.), "Pop," Jazz, Country and Western) have their roots in the traditions of African music styles brought over by enslaved Africans and the immigrant Scots-Irish who settled in the Southern US. Neither, on its own, would have been sufficient to create modern music. The fusing of the two post-Civil War in the forms of Jazz, Ragtime, and the trail songs of the Old West form the basis of nearly all (more)

  • @DSDunlap72 you must be joking?

R&B and rap , Rock all which can be traced to the blacks and their gospel at church or slave music, Pop is completely formed from coporations and cheap sedimentality, Heavy metal can be traced to Dick Dale and his rearraingments of arab, greek and adalusian (moorish spain) to his electric guitar. although one could also see the movement of heavy metal and see a germanic or wagnerian origin.

  • I vividly recall listening to this song for the first on the radio while working an overnight shift in October of 1983. I felt very relaxed and peacefeul. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Edward Norton slappa da bass quite nicely.

  • Modern Family! Also I've heard this 3,000 times at work, lol.

  • I think this was on the movie "16 Candles." Samantha and Jake. Ahh, Molly Ringwold.

  • THIS IS THE SOUND OF MY SOOOOOOUUULLL <33333333

  • the sax player is a hunk. memories are back again...........

  • @porcchopz Lol, Izzy LaFontaine!

  • Everyone loves a bit of Spandau Ballet..

  • TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • 80 people are deaf, and they don't know any good music of the 80s.

  • I'm glad I was born in the 70's. I got to hear some of the best music made. The 70, 80, and early to mid 90's. Thank you radio and industry execs for ruining that. I only have Indie and Underground Hip-Hop to blast now.

  • Music for everyone. There was enough creativity and variety to go around in the 80`s that people discovered music they would never had heard of before. A large part was due to MTV,Friday Night Videos, etc. It was just a great time to be in the right place. The 80`s.

  • love

  • Sky High

  • Another great song from childhood/adolescence! :D

    *born in 72*

  • @DSDunlap72 born 95, and listened to this as young one

  • @scottiejp123

    the FUCK he does.

  • Timeless classic

  • Comment removed

  • i have a question: i'm looking to become a music producer when i grow up; i really want to sample a certain part of this song. would you guys be mad if i did? i know my mom doesnt like it when people sample oldies

  • @SidBuford1414 This song was sampled in 1991 by PM Dawn...look up Set Adrift and PM Dawn. Good choice for a sample.

  • @lynxtovid cool. i was just making sure :)

  • This song is from the 80's Brilliance, and one of the best!!

  • I don't have to! I know its all garbage! I like mostly all kinds of music even a little Country @ times, but I'am strictly an R&B woman! they don't play music no more like the Ojays Earth, Wind, and Fire, Rene and Angela and so on... LIKE I "SAID" BEFORE, TODAYS MUSIC IS GARBAGE!! AND I don't really care about what some one says !

  • i love this song

  • SAX SOLO FTW!!!

  • most of the people bitchin are old like me and want to listen to the music that takes them back as that is what music does but my daughter who is in her 20's likes the music of today so i guess it's all relavent

  • grande musica boa uma das melhores !!!!!!!!

  • Modern Family anyone?

  • @porcchopz lol

  • @porcchopz watchin the episode right now......

  • @tamara229 just finished :/

  • @porcchopz thats one of the resons I looked it up

  • @porcchopz yep-just watched it then

  • @porcchopz I would say Modern Family has no relation to this song. If you want to put it with a tv show, or movie, Sixteen Candles is a much better association. But to each of its own. I guess being a teenager from the 80s we have our own association to what fits where. I respect your opinion. Just thought I throw that suggestion out.

  • @porcchopz steve buscemi in the wedding singer man

  • @porcchopz ???

  • @porcchopz Best name band ever (Spandau Ballet) and I have the "starman" tatoo on my right arm....The only one I have!

Do you know where their got their name(Spandau Ballet from? I do....

    Dennis

  • this song is sooooooooo PIMP !

  • Eveyrone lamenting todays music really needs to chill out, that argument is all over youtube like a bad rash and in reality it's not really true. Ok so the charts (speaking about the UK) is pretty average-terrible, but that's probably about 2% of the music currently being produced. All you have to do is put the smallest bit of effort into finding the music you love and you'll be rewarded by tones of great, new an current talent. i could name a few bands but the list would be endless.

  • @Rasputin4thewin and hardly anyone to relate to because they're too busy listening to mainstream crap.

  • I love the 80s music!!

  • THATS IT im going to build a time machine and go back to the 80s and dance my ass off to all the great real MUSIC

  • been repeating this song for about 3 hours

  • 80s music will come back

  • It is true ! I don't to me.. sound like my Parents but the music that they play on the radio is shit! it has no substance to it. the music that is out today garbage!! this is what my children and grandchildren have to listen to.

  • I agree, I do feel sorry for this Generation because there is no good music for the kids to listen to today.I was just talking to my husband about this just a few days ago! you can't have no good memories listening to this crap! that they play today!

  • @buttacup72 You sound like your parents........

  • @buttacup72 really? you really think you have heard ALL of todays music? I hope you enjoy that insulated world you live in.

  • how is it possible to dislike this? seriously.

  • @EatAllYourFish

    It is really not possible.

It would be a breakthrough if youtube would set a like/dislike ratio. Then, the really good songs would surface.

This great song has a ratio of 146/1. True...

    :)

  • @trantor2gr true. lol

  • Great song, and like many songs from that era sounds even better today.

Just aside always thought Tony's voice was very similar to Alison Moyet.

  • THIS IS THE SOUND of the 80'S 2012 people

  • this is real music

  • @goodleftundone976 To be fair, that was pretty ignorant of me. I shouldn't have said they were shit, just that I'm not a particular fan of either jazz or blues.

  • @Kirke182 Us Brits live in a dream world? I'm surprised you arrogant, inbred, Yank cunts ever wake up! You can invent whatever bullshit you like my friend, metal was invented in England hence the moniker 'Home of Metal.' Also, I couldn't give a flying fuck about blues and jazz music, it's all shit no matter what country it comes from.

  • @iwtmltyb Damn dude, you're obnoxious... To say jazz is shit is ignorant as fuck. You know a lot of early rock was derived from blues.

  • szóstka i siódemka do leczenia :)

    wonderful song :)

    greetings from Poland :)

  • @Kirke182 Only an ignorant Yank could have such a stupid opinion. America wouldn't even have a music industry if it wasn't for the UK. Black Sabbath? Really?? They invented heavy metal. With the NWOBHM, America would never have discovered that genre of music. You might want to study music history before you post another ill-informed comment. UK has and always be the number 1 place in the world for music. End of story.

  • @iwtmltyb What a dream world you Brits live in. you think you're do great and you ain't shit. Black Sabbath did not invent metal, dork (try Bubble Puppy 1969). And they started off as Pulka Tulk playing amplified BLUES. You what blues is, right? It's that style of music you DIDN'T invent. Just the other day, I argued with some British idiot who said modern jazz sucked and couldn't beat "UK trad jazz". Apparently, he means Chris Barber, That stuff is called DIXIELAND!

  • @iwtmltyb For modern and rock music but not for music itself, dude. When it comes to MUSIC that city has to be Vienna :)

  • @iwtmltyb

Really? Very proud of my English music heritage....but, it's like the red coats/blue coats ah....enjoy what we have both offered on each side of the pond....

  • @iwtmltyb Some one needs a history lesson... ROCK originated from R&B in rural parts of USA and seeing as heavy metal is in fact a vers. of rock wouldn't it make sense that it originated in USA?!?! as a case in point the first song that most musical scholars recognize as the transition from R&B to rock is "JOHNNY BE GOOD" by Chuck Berry.. the UK has and will add lots of good stuff to the music industry but to say that they invented the industry or even the genre is not only ill informed but Dumb

  • @iwtmltyb Only an ignorant Brit would make such a comment, There have been a lot of countries that have made contributions to the musical jaugernaut. Remember Jimi Hendrix? The blues, Motown? all uniquely American. For you to make such a statement is not only ludichris but very shalow as well!! Cherio Mate!!!

  • proper! timeless

  • I found thru facebook this song was out when I was born it's nostlagic

i bought a ticket to the world ....

  • never forget when the top 3 at this time was this song, bonnie tyler's total eclipse of the heart and air supply "making love out of nothing at all.

  • This was the second British invasion, I think. Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, The Who, Dexty's Midnight Runners, Human League, Thompson Twins, Level 42. Great music,

  • Is that the manager of Whitney's on the Bodyguard doing backup? It sure looks like him.

  • @grethomory It's him. He was one of the twin brothers in this band.

  • @Clonetrooper1139 Thanks so much, Clonetrooper. I knew I wasn't crazy, but I thought I could be wrong. Thanks for confirming this.

  • Smooth and classy.

  • This is probably one of my favorite songs all time. I first heard it when i was about 12 years old little boy in Jamaica. It really makes me feel comforted and love even in such a cruel hateful world .

  • Buenisimo

  • I imagine this song playing in my head every time a beautiful woman walks by. It's awesome, and why doesn't real life have a soundtrack like movies?

  • This is my JAM....

  • 090 ... και σε περιμένω!

  • @ChristosPatrik

    what?

  • @Dzidekification it's like music in pink telephones (here in Greece) :)

  • The voice that can hardly be mistaken for as Tony Hadely !!!!!

  • DEMI LOVOTO vs spandau ballet , WHO WINS?

  • @kojakbangbang7 50CENT ! hahaha.

  • @kojakbangbang7 you just gotta love the Classic

  • This is the sound of my soul!!!!

    amoooo

  • you can hear 80's music even better you can still feel the atmosphere it created.. nostalgia

  • Modern Family made these guys famous again

  • Just wonderful POP music from a time when we could play dress up- punk, zoot suits etc.. A time when Blacks and Whites seemed to groove and lots to dance to. I feel sad for todays kids. Nothing to dance to and zero culture! Gangster rap, death metal, cell phones, pornography, Corporate America, war etc YUCK!!! Poor kids!

  • @warfield1212 I was into punk and industrial in the 80s to keep myself sane since I was also serving in the military. But I remember this song well. Really, American music from the 1890s to the 1990s was some of the best stuff ever written. But the 21st century has been unbelievably barren. There is only crap today.

  • @Kirke182 noting but garbage and sampling real musicians musik so they can copy the real stuff and make some kind of garbage

  • @Kirke182 American music? Spandau Ballet are British lol.

  • @NottinghamForest22 No shit they're British but like ALL British rock and pop, they would not exist without AMERICAN music. No Beatles, no Stones, no Pink Floyd, no Moody Blues, no Yard Birds, no Cream, no Led Zepplin, no Black Sabbath, no Savoy Btrown, no Foghat, no John Mayall, no Graham Bond, no Lord Sutch, no ELO, no Troggs, no Zombies, no Alexis Korner, no Depeche Mode--no nothin' without AMERICAN music. And don't you forget it!

  • @Kirke182 yeah whatever, British music is far better than American music. End of story.

  • @NottinghamForest22 yeah, whatever.

  • @warfield1212 they didnt have porn in the 80s?

  • @fkbvgadfhbv They had porn in the 80's. They had Taboo parts 1 to 8, i forgot about it.

  • @warfield1212

Totally agree, those elegant, innovative, timeless songs sadly no more :(

  • @warfield1212 you are right

  • @warfield1212 wow i am really sick of listening to all these comments about previous times being better. can you honestly say you had no problems in the 80's? pornography (not sure how you define it) has been around since ancient greece. how about advancements in ethical issues such as womens rights, the sciences (particularly genetics and biology). have we really deteriorated that much? you should feel sorry for people like yourself that dont appreciate our current world and life!

  • @warfield1212 All that stuff was always there.

  • @warfield1212 Because death metal, gangsta rap, cell phones, pornography, corporate america, and war didn't exist in 1980's, never forget, Vietnam didn't happen and the band called Death never existed, prototype cell phones weren't around and they certainly werent the size of doors, pornography was invented in 2011 and Corporate America is copyrighted by Barack Obama.

  • @warfield1212 yeah, I feel sorry for this generation also...

  • Best band name ever. And I have the "Starman" (RUSH2112) tattoo on my arm. The only tattoo I have..

Do you know what Spandau Ballet refers to?

  • @dstrim2000 yep. It's quite sick really!

  • @warfield1212 I with you until you said Pornography, C'mon man! jk LOL

  • @warfield1212 other than the porn your right haha

  • Reminds me of Danny Tanner in a good way

  • The guy singing this song never looks like the person who should be singing it.

  • There was a cover if i am right ? One of the singers was fat , but can't remember - please help me . The video was taking place on some beach ...

  • @jivko359

    PM Dawn sampled this song...

  • Finally! Been searching for this song since I heard it on American Dad.

  • The twins in this group were in a guilty pleasure movie that I've seen a million times called "The Krays". Just in case someone needs an answer to a trivia question...

  • @angiehay My bad. They played twins.

  • Good taste brought me here :) ♥ Beautiful song!

  • @Patti1818 i agree lovely song!!!!

  • Such a great song. Thanks emimusic for the vid.

  • All through the 80s I felt like there was one lead singer splitting his time between Spandau Ballet, ABC, and Human League, and I was the only person who noticed.

  • @chaddvanzanten I just noticed that myself, thank you john from houston

  • @chaddvanzanten That is what you call talent. Something todays' musicians don't have.

    Hail to the 80's!

  • top class

  • never gets out of style. every generation simply loves this song!

  • Modern family
