He just wanted to save his brother and was brutally killed then had to endure unimaginable torture everyday for 30 years until he started to become less than human and when he finally came back to life he woke up to discover he started the end of the world and had to live with the guilt of torturing people for 10 years straight and deal with the monster he became in hell smh

Sam lost his father figure. the one who taught him how to be a man. how to take care of himself. how to feel loved. he knew dean was going to die, so it basically ripped him apart from the inside for a whole year. he probably felt it was his fault, too. and then, just watching his big brother die... it must have been like hell for him.

@Reflectinglight18 Lilith was Lucifer's first demon. She was also the 66th seal and she had to die to set lucifer free. Lucifer sent Ruby to Sam to get him to start drinking demon blood so that he could kill Lilith and become Lucifer's vessel. Sam didn't know this and thought he was doing this to stop Lucifer. Basically Ruby was Lucifer's "undercover" demon. Lilith probably knew because she could've killed him at any time. Ruby needed to demonize Sam first. Hope that was helpful.

@thoralmighty21 Yeah because in the 4th season you see that Lilith knew she was the last seal so her death frees Lucifer. We see that she even tries to stop it during The Monster At The End of the Book but eventually resigns herself to 'saving the world'. :3 And Ruby herself said that not even someone as high up as Alistair knew about it, only Lilith did. Besides even if she did kill him wouldn't he just go to heaven or hell...I mean good lord how many times have those boys died? xD
