  • I agree this Cathy is the best. Others I have seen seem to be a bit tamed where as this one has that wild air about her which is captured perfectly.

  • TIMELESS :)

  • This gives me goosebumps... the actress is very good as Catherine.

  • how could cathy not see heathcliff leave from his hiding place??? wtf

  • This is a VERY good cathy...she encarnates the character perfectly...

But i think I prefer Charlotte Riley (2009)

  • I really never cared for Cathy but Heathcliff. Either way is a wonderful story.

  • This looks like a really good version. Is the whole thing available anywhere, like Netflix?

  • Nelly was the same age as Cathy and Heathcliff.

  • @AbigailBernard O_O absolutly not! she was like 19 when cathy was 6!

  • @AbigailBernard Nelly was the same age as Hindley, who is about 9 years older than Catherine and Heathcliff

  • thats not the best cathy... juliet binoche plays the bst cathy (1992)

  • @qendra15 Although I like julliet Binoche, I honestly think she was the worst Cathy ever. For a start she had no attitude and Cathy did not have a french accent.

  • Nellie is way too old though! She and Cathy and Hindley played together as children, she should be nearly the same age as them!

  • Do you have the rest of this versoin?

  • Thanks for posting a clip from this version!

  • This Is Great, But There's One Thing:

How The Hell Did Cathy Not Notice Heathcliff Leave?

  • Juliette Binoche was a much better Cathy. :/

  • i think this version of Cathy is much more like the Cathy of the book so in that way is better. If Juliette Binoche hadn't portrayed such a watered down version I might agree

  • Really? Juliette was by far the closest to my impression of the book version of Cathy. What do you mean by watered down? I thought she was brilliant. In my opinion, this Cathy is too gentle and timid. Binoche had much more of the force of character that is essential to Cathy. But again, I'd love to hear more of your opinion.

  • I just began reading the Bronte works and have fallen in love with the sisters wuthering Heights is a beautiful book. I find myself detesting both Cathy and Heathclife in truth. The book in itself is a true classic.

  • isn't it amazing? wuthering heights is my favorite book. i feel quite the contrary however i sympathize with both heathcliff and cathy. even though cathy was clearly selfish and heathcliff was clearly maniacal, they both were just learning to grow up and, because society made children grow up so quickly there, they never had the chance to remedy the mistakes they'd made in childhood and it marred their lives forever.

  • I wish someone would upload this version on you tube. Purists say its the most faithful retelling of the book, but it's almost impossible to get in the US :-(

  • I have this version on DVD and it is the most true version. However, as it is quite old the set walls move when people shut the doors and you can see the persons wacking the windows with the tree branch at the beginning.

  • The best cast ever for Wuthering Heights :D

  • Lucky you - tell her she is the best Cathy of the lot!

  • cathys my teacher at college now- 1 of my directors

  • I think this is the best cathy i have ever seen....and i've seen them all.

  • @DarkMutterings absolutely!!! She gets her capriciousness far better than any other I've seen.....

  • This scene stays really close to the text, though, which is nice.

  • It bothers me that in every version of Wuthering Heights that I've seen, Nelly is old the whole film through - Bronte writes her scarcely older than Cathy! I understand the limitations of film... but still.

  • I agree with you...why isn't a version with Ellen the age she appears to have in the book, at least apparently as they do with Cathy and others?

    They are really good, tough!

  • Nelly Dean was at least ten years older than Catherine, when we are introduced to her in the book Nelly was young, must have been around 17 when she started taking care of the three brats. In this scene Catherine must have been 17 herself so Nelly ~27, still I guess she should not look as old as the film portrays her.

  • I agree 100% Nelly has to out live all the chacters in the book, exept for cathy#2 and Harton. I recomend you pick up the the contining story of Wuthering Heights. The book is titled" H". The story of heathcliff's journey back to wuthering Heights by Lin Haire-sargeant. In this book it tell how Nelly kept a letter Heathcliff wrote to Cathy of his Three year abscence and return. the book is out of print but I found it. If you love wuthering heights. You will love this.

  • Also can you tell me were I can pick up The BBC version of wuthering Heights? I need a little assistance.

  • She's the same age as Hindley, and six years older than Catherine, though she seems a lot older than in her character.

  • yeah...doesn't this nelly seem a bit old? she's only meant to be like twenty 2 here. oh well. she's playing the part exactly as how i imagined it, so i can't complain.

  • Have u seen the 970 version coz Nelly is young in that.

  • The woman playing Nelly knows her character, but I'm not so sure about Cathy. She's got her accent right, though!
