It's quite difficult to explane.

For the flash, it's just a solid with fractal noise, colored in yellow with some glow. I also created a mask to figure the light in the room.

For the blood, I used a picture of a blood splach, coupled with a red solid, and animated the whole thing with masks.

And for the gun's smoke, I just used Particular.
