Self reliance is always the best way forward. Unfortunately the WTO's concept of free trade is undermining fairtrade and the ability of small farmers and farmers in the developing countries of the Caribbean to compete fairly with farmers in developing countries. The European Union agricultural subsides is not helping. With these subsides trade will never be fair.
