@BPMification Younger people usually prefer more commercial, mainstream music. Hirasawa's music is considered wierd. Only real music fan would appreciate it.
@CouchingMaster I wouldn't say that exactly; I've met plenty of Hirasawa 'fans' who are really just teens obsessed with Japanese culture, which merits their calling themselves fans. Then again, they aren't really true music fans, are they?
Honestly, the first time I ever heard anything by Hirasawa (which like many US citizens was Forces) I said to myself, 'this is the kind of music my brain has wanted all my life'.
@KingOfUm Saw the trailer to Berserk as a child. That song, "Forces", was imprinted inside me. Ten years later, I remembered to look for the anime because of that song. I like to believe that I was destined to become a fan of Susumu Hirasawa.
@ultima209 Amen to that! If not for Forces I likely wouldn't have known him for many years later. His work is so 'worldly' that he fortunately has thus far escaped being pushed into the J-rock and J-pop crowds. I find his work similar to that of Jun Togawa and Ryuichi Sakamoto because of their experimental natures, I don't even recognize Hirasawa as a performer of any concrete genre.
@bloodymetalcore It's called Yamaha Miburi. On the feet, legs and arms are MIDI activating sensors that trigger sound samples. Is has also mini keyboard for each hand (you can see it in the video). Susumu Hirasawa used Miburi during his concerts since 1994 to 2001 - this is show is the last where he used it.
You can check 1996 Interactive Live Show and Kameari Pop in my uploads. Also, search for Art Blind song here on YT. It's cool :D
Live version of Halo can be seen on Interactive Live Show 2003 Limbo-54 DVD, it's available at teslakite website. I don't have it, so I can't upload it myself, sorry.
@CouchingMaster Hirasama reminds me very much of Laurie Anderson in his approach to music - the way he looks for alternative means of producing and controlling electronic sound.
Really enjoying this.
And yes, I guess I do fall within BPMification's demographic...glad to see that HE doesn't!
