What separates Celine from most divas, is that she's international. She's from Canada giving her an edge to her albums, but did amazing well in her anglophone releases. Then increased her popularity in Europe with her Francophone albums. She's also been known to sing in Japanese, Spanish, and Italian. Whereas Mariah, Whitney, etc. (excluding X-tina) only focused in America and the UK.
Mariah and Whitney did well worldwide. In fact Mariah is the biggest selling foreign artist in Japan of all time. Mariah and Christina have recorded in Spanish.
I am sorry, but so many of you are blinded by how bad some of these singers are today: Whitney has no control in the high register. Christina's voice is scratchy. For a pure diva-off, it's gotta be Mariah. I might hate her, but DAMN she's good. Celine comes next, followed by Christina, who can at least still sing her ass off. If they write your own lyrics, amazing; but a singer becomes more diverse when they introduce a songwriter with different tastes to their album.

What separates Celine from most divas, is that she's international. She's from Canada giving her an edge to her albums, but did amazing well in her anglophone releases. Then increased her popularity in Europe with her Francophone albums. She's also been known to sing in Japanese, Spanish, and Italian. Whereas Mariah, Whitney, etc. (excluding X-tina) only focused in America and the UK.

I am sorry, but so many of you are blinded by how bad some of these singers are today: Whitney has no control in the high register. Christina's voice is scratchy. For a pure diva-off, it's gotta be Mariah. I might hate her, but DAMN she's good. Celine comes next, followed by Christina, who can at least still sing her ass off. Diana Ross after, followed by Jennifer Hudson, Whitney, and the rest don't count, 'cause they suck.

When performing LIVE the no.1 has got to be - WAS Whitney. Now Id say it was Celine. Mariah may have a flawless 5 octave RECORDING voice but Ive never seen her bring it to a live audience - all that cutting and pasting a song today really doesn't work in a live audience.

I love the most Michael Jackson on this video :P but anyway: Britney is a performer, she has great voice when she was a kid but now she's more a dancer than a singer. I don't know any of Jessica's songs so I just tell that she has really good voice. I don't know Celine's songs too but she's one of the best. I think Jennifer has huge voice and abilities. @MrBarBarozz My problem with Mariah is that she writes her own songs, it's not that they're bad. It's that if you write your own songs for a long amt. of time they start to clash in style (ex. We Belong Together, I Stay In Love / Can't Let Go, Vision Of Love). Also, just because a singer doesn't have a five-octave range doesn't mean the aren't as talented. A person's talent comes from how they choose to use what they've got.

Also I disagree, the best tone would probably be Barbra Streisand, her voice is incredibly smooth and round. On another note, a singer who doesn't write their own lyrics isn't bad. If they write your own lyrics, amazing; but a singer becomes more diverse when they introduce a songwriter with different tastes to their album.
