My god loved me so much that he pretended to have himself murdered in human form so he can forgive me of crimes I never committed, and now he doesn't have to torture me for all eternity in a lake of fire that he created.
Christians are psychotic. Jews are too. Muslims definitely so. Religion is nonsense.
Gods ways are not mans ways. And this man does not have a grasp on who God is. He can forgive, cleanse, and punish because He is the creater of all. Am I to believe that morality is decided by this man or am I to belive that the standards are set by God the ultimate good.
"The sins of the Fathers are visited upon the children" serves no useful purpose beyond the smug satisfaction and self rightousness of those proclaiming this by way of tortuting the parents with the knowledge their innocent children would be punished for sins they, the parents, committed.
Don't you think that there's a certain irony in calling yourself “SirWinstonChurchill” when most of your views are much more closely aligned to those of Adolf Hitler?
Far right, neo-fascist scum like yourself are so transparent. Your cowardly behaviour usually gives you away.
The very notion of what Jesus did removes Gods omnipotence. If Jesus could take Gods wrath upon himself instead of us, that implies that God MUST punish and cannot control his own actions. If this is true, then God is not opmipotent. If God MUST punish sin, then he is not capable of controlling his own actions. Again, He is no longer omnipotent. If God cannot foresee these impossible dilemnas, then He is also not omniscient. The "holy" bible shackles their God quite effectively.
@RyuDarragh the problem of divine knowlege really hamstrings any attempt to define god as an omniscient entity. Why would an omniscient being need to test anyone's faith (ie abraham)? what is he going to find out that he doesn't already know? People who believe this either suck at logic or have simply learnt to live with cognitive dissonance. People who try to engage with these questions using reason to explain their beliefs tend to stray into the bullshit zone pretty fast, bless em!
@PlanetBongoSan: I know. That's why I felt at 8 years old that if there were a God of any sort, He would be Deistic. My problem was I was extremely stubborn, inquisitive and not given to respecting adults who patronized me, so I pretty quickly classified "Religion" as a fairy tale for adults. I suppose it was my fathers fault. He taught me to read and had started me on Jack London before I entered Kindergarten. I'm reading "Call of the Wild" when the other kids are reading about "Dick & Jane".
@RyuDarragh er, i don't see any problems there mate, sounds like you were my kind of kid. if we'd met as children we'd probably have hung out. From the note of regret or self-deprecation in your response am i to deduce that, like myself, you sometimes feel that having a thoughtful frame of mind as a kid didn't do you much good in the long run?
@PlanetBongoSan: Actually, it wasn't being better educated nor being able to use more of my mind than most kids (I learned the secret of so called "genius" young & was not impressed by other children of "high IQ"). I got along fine with my peers. It was institutionalized child rearing that screwed my life up. School, where they jumped me ahead in grades 3 times and I ended up trying to socialize with kids twice my age and then the "boffins" with their peurile attempts to figure out "prodigies".
@RyuDarragh sorry to hear that mate, sounds, well, less than idyllic. I was never so advanced, but did have problems with my school, which left me very much more cynical than was good for me at a young age. I can see that they were probably trying to do what they thought was best, but it didn't work out too well for me at the time. Eventually I figured out that, though it is important to know yourself, you can spend too much energy on looking back, and its best not to harbour bitterness.
@PlanetBongoSan: I don't harbour any bitterness against ignorant people and I can't change the past. But, I CAN change the impact the past is having on the present and the future and that is a worthy goal :)
@RyuDarragh although you are right that all those actions points to a god that is not omnipotent it could also mean this god is just a sadistic dick and a lier. but anyways jesus didnt really take gods wrath as he also is god. so he took his own wrath on himself to calm down himself through sacrificing himself to himself for a crime he himself invented (original sin) and to save creatures he himself made in a way that they needed to be saved from himself... is start to feel dizzy ...
@theheinzification: It's interesting that there is only ONE statement that later followers of Jesus use to claim he was God is when Pilate confronted Jesus after his arrest. Pilate said to Jesus "You are God, are you not?" to which Jesus replied "You have said it." When you read the original language and look at the colloquel usage of the time, this translates more properly as "You are God, are you not?" to which Jesus replied "You are saying it, not I" or "You are putting words in my mouth".
@theheinzification: Wrong? With what? Having a personal epiphany that had nothing to do with God or finding one can do what is needed without invoking a deity of any kind? Or, perhaps, you think I'm lying. In that case, that's your problem, not mine.
@RyuDarragh you missunderstood me. im so sorry, i probably didnt make it clear. there is nothing wrong with what you wrote, but with what you wrote about. i mean the bible and all the various branches of believes rooting in it. its basically a collection of errors and failures and led so much harm.
i do agree with your points, also those about not needing a god or invoking a deity.
I never want to ever hear that question again . , "do YT atheists do any good?" We are now armed with such clarity . there is no reason to sit quietly by.
Be sure to always speak up and remind them just how fucked up they are.
@itsasin1969: On 9/11 I had an experience that changed my self assessment of my own worth. When the building fell so close the debris was only seconds away (I was on the east end of John Street working in an office building that barely escaped with no visible damage), instead of panicking, I lost all fear and ran to see if there was anything I could do to help. I ended up helping 20 or so folks out of NY that day. And I found I felt... satisfied. That my existance was worth it. I'm an Atheist.

Morality and any associated ideal is rooted entirely in a presupposition some higher power defines what is correct for human behavior.

@SirWinstonChurchill
Incorrect.
Most rational atheists recognise that their actions have consequences. Reciprocal altruism evolved for a reason.
I suggest that you Google the term: "Reciprocal altruism", to educate yourself further.
Your naive and misconceived views on Nihilism demonstrate your lack of education and understanding of the subject.

With comments such as "I'm ready to fight a war" and "killing yourself makes my job easier" you are the next Jared Lee Loughner.
Don't dare to believe that the government isn't already monitoring your deranged rantings.
