Very well done. My obnoxious quibbles:

1.) Because he remembers the one who 'went away' whilst drinking blood from the waitress, I always assumed that they [sic] were a source for blood that he at first didn't feed from fatally and got involved-with---he later either did lose control or they wised-up and got far away (or some garlic and crucifixes) fast.

2.) How could you not have him drag or carry a lumpy sack for 'just me and my mistake'?

How do vampires form? They're bit by other vamps and don't die. If he bit her, and she didn't die, she'd probably have become a vamp and they might've had a fling before he said or did something to drive her away. Like reminding her that he turned her into a bloodthirsty monster of the night.
