This is my parents wedding song, makes me smile every time I hear it. I still see them dancing at my sisters wedding when I was a kid a long time ago.
Why 24 idiots can´t feel this jewel?? it´s pure magic, for me is very nostalgic and one of the most beautiful big band songs, i can´t understand what happends in this world, the music is not only the stupid "CACATON" and Justin Bieber, ...
Im only 19, but The Golden Girls have led me to this song, and this song has led me to his others. It's wonderful music to just sit and relax and listen too!!
This piece of music is responsible for me being here today. It was my parents first dance, in the late 50s. I grown up listening to Glenn Miller's records. I'm grateful to him for my existence. :)
A clarinet playing the melody over the harmony of 4 saxes with a tenor sax playing the same melodic line an octave lower.........The Glenn Miller reed sound lives on!
i'm mid 30's and mt dad was born in 1931 and i grew up listening to glenn miller and all the big bands elvis etc every time i hear this music reminds me of my long gone dad but its amazing how a certain smell taste or noise can bring long gone memories flooding back just like it was yesterday!!
They don't make 'timeless' music like this anymore do they? I am in my 50's and I cannot imagine ever tiring of hearing this kind of quality music. I am a lover of the big band era music. Miller, Dorsey, and others were and are in a class all by themselves. Could we have them back please?
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
My wife and i feel we were both born at the wrong time. i am still a disco/pop fan and she is heavy metal. the thing we have in common is that we both love the swing ERA. BTW we are both in our 50's.
Along with Vera Lynn's We'll Meet Again this was one of definitive pieces of music from the 1940's. A beautiful orchestration of a popular song of the period. Glenn Miller's name will always be associated with WW2 and the lovely sounds he produced to cheer a war-weary generation. Great stuff

@Potatoerapper Keep pursuing those dreams, Kid. Your "bar" may very well become a novelty that people may flock from around the country of not the WORLD to see! Just think of your non drinking patrons and sell good food too! :3
Bucket List Item: find a live band like this in a ball room playing this song and dance with someone special. I can't think of anything more romantic. First, I have to learn to dance better.
Do you have the rest of this special on video? I am searching frantically for the performance of In the Mood they did the same night as this recording of Moonlight Serenade. How strange I have had the same experience as allenjan - my parents and uncle and aunt all great dancers, loved to dance to this tune. The last one left, my uncle, died on tuesday last 7 December and I am using this great dance song as part of the funeral music. I hope they are all up there dancing together again.

In 1962 our Jr./Sr. Prom theme was Moonlight Sernade. I was Jr. Class President and we had to host the Prom. We were fortunate to have the Glen Miller Band play at the prom. We lived in a small town and couldn't afford much but they took the gig anyway: they were passing through our town anyway. Of course Mr. Miller had long been gone but his music still lived on (and it still does). The Glen Miller band has been, and always will be, my favorite Big Band. They don't make music like this anymore.
Sem palavras para agradecer ao insuperável Glen Miller por esta obra prima que me marcou desde a juventude dos anos dourados (primeira namorada, primeiro beijo, formatura, etc.) e me sensibilizará até o último dos meus dias! Mauricio

Nice comment... I'll tell ya a little story about my grandpa.
I'm german, my grandfather died 4 days ago, 28th March. He was 86 years old and was also involved in WW2. Back then he almost was ordered to Stalingrad what would've been his certain death. But fortanetly they needed a car mechanic (that was my grandpa's passion and job of course) for repairing tanks so he was send to Italy, where some american soldiers where been captured. The lieutenant had to go temporarily to ...
..another area and gave the comand shortly to my grandpa because he liked him. He said to him "whatever you do, don't give them food let em suffer". But when he was away he ordered a truck with food and gave em something to eat. The commander of the captured allied troops noted his name and said "When we've won that war. I'll come to your home to return the favor:"..
so he came and asked him afterall if he want to come along to his home in texas. But ma grandpa declined with thanks..
@Kornhulio18 I just read what u wrote,my mother died 29 march she was 79,and I appreciate ur grandfathers wisdom in time of war to know what is truly the right thing to do
Do they stil hve dancing at the Manhattan Center Ballroom? I wish I was out on that floor right now with a beautiful gal. Also, PBS cut some numbers out of this when it was aired. Could someone please upload those edited clips from that special?
-Danny Boy
-A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square
-People Like You and Me
-Starust
-That's Sabatoge
-At Last
-Rhapsody in Blue.
Again, all from this particular special. Thank you and God bless.
this is music. true music, im only 14 and i love this. i play 2 instruments, trumpet and trombone im very involved in sports and ladies. so that proves you dont have to be a band nerd or a oldy to like this, people need to teach that to others. this is so calming and loving that it makes you think of good times, and not drugs like some music
This reminds of the days in the 50/60s when I used to go dancing @ the Memorial Hall in Newbridge S/Wales, the bands name was Terry Allens dance band and in the interval a group by the name of Tommy Scot & the senators used to play for about 20 mins, people will know the person Tommy scot better know as TOM JONES. Can any one else remember those days
You got to put yourself back in time a little. This music is very relaxing but if you had been in the middle of a world war you might need some heavy duty relaxation too.
The band sounds beautiful and I have always loved this tune. My only complaint is the phrasing by the reeds on the melody. It should be two sixteenth notes, not a quarter note triplet. At least that was the way Miller's band played it back in the day. Still a beautiful tune and performance.
This is actually a great version. I am still practising this song on the piano, I would like to be able to put this feeling into it. Thank you for a wonderful upload.
All I can think of is Dr Who 'The doctor dances' :-P. Such beautiful music and it's videos like these that keep the genre alive. Glenn Miller was a genius, as were so many jazz musicians of his generation.
You know, I just lost my last living uncle a couple years ago in Riverside, he and my Aunt were married for over 50 years, he and my father were very close and all of them are gone now. I listened to shi song after his funeral and I could see all 4 of them dancing to this song in one of those big ballrooms from the 40's. What beautiful horn work in this song. Ageless & timeless too.
@allenjan36 Imagine living back then? So much simpler. No hoochie dancing women and thugs. Man, oh, man, I would love to spend a week or two back then. I'm only 42. Born in '68. I have no idea what it was really like.

..another area and gave the comand shortly to my grandpa because he liked him.
But ma grandpa declined with thanks..

... and said "no I belong to my home in germany. the only wish I have is fuel for free for my moped" ;)
and he got it (fortunately he lived in the American occupation zone which was very very comfortable for the german citizens)
That's just a little part of all his experiences in that time.
Next Monday is his funeral and I chose this song for it because he loved miller's music so much.
It's gonna be tough not to cry. Such a sadness...

@allenjan36 your uncle must have been quite the incest faggot if he was dancing with your daddy...

@allenjan36 Imagine living back then? So much simpler. No hoochie dancing women and thugs. Man, oh, man, I would love to spend a week or two back then. I'm only 42. Born in '68. I have no idea what it was really like.

@allenjan36 One of the nicest tunes ever written. From my father and mothers' "going-steady" time, also.

@allenjan36 a very great song. A lot of our family recognize this.
