  • load of shi;

  • moi j aime la voix de tom jones mais elvis restera le plus grand la preuve meme tom jones allais le voir dans ses spectacle

  • In the late 70s Toms voice was different, rougher than usually. Why was that? Thats the prob here ^^

  • The audience loved it, i bet hearing it live was awsome and the same goes for Elvis's version...two great singers

  • elvis is easily better

HERE is a story Tom jones once said to the crows elvis is in the room

The crowd never looked back at tom THATS A FACT look it up

  • Tom Jones delivers a great performance and shows fantastic range with this song. But there was one and only one Elvis whose rendition was transcendent.

  • ok, but there's nothing like Elvis!!!

  • meat loafs version...tom jones is just singing the words here....meat loaf has his own style and has alot of passion.....

  • he sounds awful compared to elvis

  • @jackzero99 i agree.sounds like a little boy trying to be his idol.Elvis and Elvis only will always be THE version of this song.

  • Elvis was the only one born on a frosty morning in Dixie, and he died there too.

  • Both Tom and Elvis had great voices. The little girls loved Elvis, the women loved Tom.........and they were all happy!

  • @MrZip61

The little girls loved Elvis in the 50's by the 60's and 70's we were women and still loved Elvis...and now we knew why...

  • A little star wars reference? 6:09

  • @Tuttermuts That's not possible because it was before Star Wars :)

  • @Nariel7 OMGAWD!! George lucas stole from Tom Jones!!! Nah just kidding, you do hear what little detail I mean though?

  • @Tuttermuts Or rather, John Williams stole from the person who arranged this version (whoever that was) ;) But seriously, I do hear what you mean. I guess it's just accidental similarity.

  • What a voice

  • Horrible! Sounds like some sheep giving birth or something. Jesus!

  • Tom was totally overdoin the vibrato in this song and today he probably would laugh about himself....btw he and Elvis where great friends ..so no need for anybody to compare both versions..they are totally different singers with different voices and styles

  • Way better and stronger than elvis what a voice number one blows Elvis out of the Water.

  • @coconutsbar Sorry, nobody blows the King out of the water. Especially that song.

  • Way better and stronger than elvis what a voice number blows Elvis out of the Water.

  • Very good, but Elvis's version is better. He had as much genuine sould as any singer, and his vocals ARE more powerful, but they sound smoother.

  • Tom and Elvis both sing it fantastically, but Elvis' orchestration is infinitely superior

  • NOBODY sings it like the man himself....Mickey Newbury.

  • Both Tom's and Elvis's version are fantastic. This was UNDENIABLY beautiful. I can understand the need to compare the two, but why the need to declare a winner at the expense of disrespecting the other. I'm just glad we were lucky enough to hear this song sung by these two legends. Oh, and Anita Carter's version is of "All My Trials" is awesome too.

  • "In August 1974, Elvis gave a big introduction to TJ who was attending his show. Theres someone in the audience Id like you meet. To me hes my favorite singer. Hes one of the great performers Ive ever seen, the greatest voice, Tom Jones. There he is. Hes too much. Tom, you open at Caesars palace tomorrow, right? Folks, if you get the chance, go see him. Hes really something. He always comes to see me and I see his. Its mutual respect.

Cut the crap about comparing both versions are outstanding

  • tom jones has an incredible voice.......one of the best in the world....but im staying devoted to my idol,ELvis

  • Elvis was a huge singer, but no voice on earth sounds better than Tom's. He's the best singer and has the powerful voice I've ever heard.

  • @makemyday28 HA HA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHA AH HA HA HA AHA HHHHHHHHH

  • @noname8054 OK, ELVIS IS THE KING, BUT THE POWERFULL VOICE OF TOM IS MUCH BETTER. THE BEST SINGER IN LIVE OF THE HISTORY. RESPECT FOR TOM, 50 YEARS WHIT THE MAGIC TOUCH!!!

    SALUDOS DE ARGENTINA!!!

  • elvis version commt besser rüber...

  • CONRADO BRASIL - THE BEST OF BEST

  • jones ist gut-vundebar.

  • @bundoranboy1 shut up you little no dick, there was no comparison to tom and elvis although they were great friends.but in reality elvis took tom as a serious threat to him as tom became big in america.

when it was realised that they sang different types of music everything was ok between them.

and dont forget you big boy little cock,TOM IS STILL SINGING TODAY, while with much respect to elvis he is not.so go and find some alligators tit to suck cos i guess youre mammas given up you tick shit

  • I KNOW ELVIS WAS THE KING BUT COULD HE SING WELSH SONGS AS GOOD AS TOM SANG THIS

  • My god...How in the world did this end up on YouTube? I played 1st trumpet in this orchestra..all these years ago. I remember this show..being the first of what would over 100 Edmonton ITV "In Concert" Series of programs. We (musicians) were so luck to be a part of this. Tom's rendition, not to take away anything from Elvis', electrified the house that night. Powerful voice the man had.

  • @garyguthman as one Canadian to another we have the best kept secret in the world...Hes in Ontario, hes Canadian,,sings like tom and elvis combined,,you gotta see to belive,,he gets mobed bt people..See unbreakable heart,,he called Andy...we in Canada have all the next big stars,,buble celine,,but Andy hes gonna beat them all,,

  • @garyguthman Fantastic trumpet!!!!

  • 10:1 for Elvis

  • Tom Johns? Wasn't he a baseball player? Never really ever heard him sing.

  • damn it John!!

  • pretty damn good..yup..but he pussied out of the final high note at the end....a great version with perfectly controlled vocals all the way through...:):)

  • compared to some the Elvis version I've seen, have to say this was one of the best I've heard, much more feeling in this version that some of the Vegas versions sung by the 'King', I am welsh though so probably bias ;)

  • I loved the Edmonton Symphony Concert series!! Tom Jones was one of the best guests (along with Engelbert). This medley showcases Tom's beautiful voice perfectly!

  • THEY GAVE BOB GELDOF A KNIGHTHOOD AND HIS MUSIC IS CRAP ALTHOUGH HE DOES A LOT FOR CHARITY I KNOW,,,, YOU WOULD THINK THAT TOM WOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN ONE BY KNOW.

  • Sir Thomas you did it again, with such soul. this is the master..Thanks for posting!

  • The original Mickey Newbury version is the best, its beautiful. X

  • This is the first time that i have heard Tom Jones sing this , wow , while Elvis' version brings me to tears every time , this is just brilliant , it is only these amazing singers with such powerfull , emotion filled voices could pull this song off , amazing, thankyou for sharing ...

  • I love this version! I love Elvis, but Tom is my man....made me cry.

  • I LOVE Tom Jones and his voice but when it comes to this particular song he doesn't hold a candle to Elvis. Think it has to do with him NOT being from the US and in particular the Southern US. It takes that Southern soul and emotion to do this song justice...one must feel it...and Tom just doesn't get it as would no one from outside the US. First heard this in the 60s..written for the guitar..and was so emotional that one couldn't help but cry...still brings tears!

  • Elvis's version is the best

  • Der Tiger singt hier einfach Super !

  • Hahaha, he sounds like a sheep screaming!

  • Too much 'vibrato' in his voice... Over the top! Better than Meatloaf's version though... =)

  • @f3dge not ME, fer damned shure

  • Not to many people are better than Tom Jones in any song but this particular medly is Elvis's & Elvis's alone. He conveyed it better emotionally than anybody else.

  • BOTH Elvis and Tom are the best !!!

  • when it comes to singing, dont mess w/ a welshman, ever

  • Im a life-long Elvis fan and i think this is freakin awesome. Just heard a couple of his new tunes off Praise and Blame. Some of the best stuff he has ever done and he is 70?

  • He destroyed the song. Sound like a horny sheep or something.

  • Difficult to compare both singers. TOM JONES is a baritone, he could have sung

    Opera, even in Wales.

  • My year of birth.... oh my gooood! :o))))

  • Top notch! (and yes I love Elvis's version to the same level as Mickey Newberry's original).

  • Awesome Tom, Dont compare his to Elvis they are dofferent people! I am Elvis' biggest fan, but they have different people! ELvis would fail at singing Dalilah, or its not unusual HAHAHHA!

  • I like tom jones but this is just terrible. Tom can only sing certain types of songs. The worst singing I ever heard. I can;t believe he even is trying this. Tom was good friends with Elvis and Tom is a good person. I don't think he means anything towards Elvis, so Elvis fans can be at rest. Tom was a big fan of Elvis. I give him his due he got up there and did his best, you have to give him that.

  • Panco Villa and I can' t comment at this time. But we will be backBut Damn Mr Jones, not too damn bad.

  • One thing for sure is Tom Jones is an amazing singer. Wow

  • Tom Jone's never claimed that his version was better than Elvis', so don't get all hissy about it, they're both great covers and both extraordinarily talented singers :)

  • yeh,tom jones shoulda known better than to take on E head to head, even Lennon wouldn't have done that

  • this welsh vershion aint that bad

  • It's funny. I like Tom Jones. But when you listen to this, you realize how great Elvis was. Not just the voice, but the thought that went in to how he should sing it. Of course, each stage show has its own dynamics, and I don't dislike this version. It's pretty hard for a performer to improve on someone else's perfection. They have to go other ways, just to be different.

That's why I love youtube. You can see things you don't know, and it puts what you already know into a different perspective.

  • I always liked Tom Jones but Elvis absolutely owns this song.

  • I agree! Elvis was the ultimate singer of American Trilogy!!!

  • You can't really compare Elvis to Tom Jones because they sing differnetly in good ways.

  • great performance from good old Tom!

  • When I hear any of these versions I have to thing.. exactly WHO is wishing to be back in the land of 'cotton'... because it sure as hell isn't the slave labor groups! Maybe those who profited from it.... and we embrace this shit??? Fuck that! Yeah look away Dixie Land your crimes are unforgivable... Glory glory Jesus???

  • @greengurl69 well said

  • when i heard Tom i thought : what a voice, when i heard Elvis, i had tears in my eyes...

the version of Elvis is one of the most butiful things i ever heard... i'm not an american, i come from Belgium

  • this blows..Tom did much better...can't touch the Kings version Tommy.sorry

  • Thanks for sharing that. I'm a fan of Tom Jones and Elvis but I never heard this version. Both great in thier own way.

  • The more I think about it the more I don't like Tom...just for singing this and obviously trying to outdo Elvis. You don't do that to a friend in my opinion.

  • @natemini Why he need to outdo Elvis of his voice much better than Elvis voice ever be. By the way where is your Elvis? Nowhere, but Tom Johns still have very successful career and still have amazing voice. I never liked Elvis, but I always liked Tom Johns. Maybe for you Americans Elvis is a King, but for rest of the world it's Tom Johns.

  • @rina5054 If you read my posts you might understand what I said. I never said he had to outdo Elvis. And I never said I didn't like Tom. And you ask me where is Elvis? He is dead.

  • @rina5054 Elvis died in 1977 and is more popular than Tom Jones even though he died 33 years ago.

  • @MrHarO5 First of all it's just your opinion, because you are an Elvis fan. I am not and for me Tom Johns is much better singer with rich amazing voice. I never listened to Elvis, but I all my life listened to Tom Johns and Engelbert Humperdinck. They both have amazing, deep velvet voices and I liked them.

  • @rina5054 You say you never listened to Elvis but you think Tom Jones is better? If you never listened to Elvis, how would you know who's better?

  • @jackzero99 It's not that I never heard Elvis songs. Many singers sang covers and sometimes I heard Elvis on the radio. But I heard Tom Johns, when I was just a kid and even I don't understand many words, because I lived in USSR, I fell in love with his voice. I learned English language from Tom Johns songs and he always was my favorite. So I heard Elvis enough to judge his singing. I loved Tom Johns better. I still like him, because he is amazing singer even in his old age.

  • I like Tom but I really feel like he should have left this one alone since Elvis did it. Just out of respect...I don't know. Especially since Elvis felt Tom had a better voice than he did in some ways and even told Tom so. This was like trying to drive it home that he could do it better. I just bet Elvis didn't appreciate it...knowing how sensitive he was. Just my guess. But anyway, it is not good at all when you compare it to Elvis's version. I sort of hope Elvis felt that way about it too ;)

  • @natemini Better??? With the little yodels at the end of each phrase like Reba McIntyre does sounds like sh**T. You're right a singer only looks and sounds dumb when they try and copy a Elvis classic. Like Bolton doing When a man loves a woman it'll always be Percy Sledge's song.

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 No dude....you misread my comment. I absolutely hate the way Tom sings this. But he has a strong voice and Elvis admired it. I think it totally sucks that Tom sang this song. And Elvis sang it 100x times better...I think someone would have to be deaf not to agree with that

  • @natemini Gotcha I just read it to fast. I'm a GIRL WATCHER not a DUDE. haha

  • yes,because he vvas...ELVIS......THE KING

  • man only ELVIS PRESLEY could do this justice give up tom.

  • @memphis77 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT. I like Tom Jones but that's an AMERICAN SONG. Just doesn't fit

  • Tom Jones was a good friend to Elvis presley and probably very proud to be so, but Tom Jones does not come close to the other fellow, tha man, the god like Elvis himself....but you know this is good but not near the real deal.

  • I want to see the tone, help me. thanks

  • nice try,,but ELVIS IS THE KING.

  • I like tom, and we know elvis liked him too, so i dont compare the two . I think elvis' version and the original newbury version are the most memorable to me.

  • @JAARNO88 Remember every time this song is sung for profit Newbury's people make a good buck.

  • He gives all in his singing. Beautiful. Tom Jones is the king of singing, just as Elvis is the king of singing, just as Frank Sinatra is the king of singing, just as Pavarotti is the king of singing, just as Maria callas is the queen of singing - -

  • why is it when elvis sing a song nobody can top him i cant believe it elvis will always be number 1 fuck the rest

  • shame really, i was enjoying this until 5:57... i thought my smoke alarm was going off ..... ! It seems Tom thought he was bigger than Elvis and could do anything that Elvis could do...WRONG! Massiave FAIL in my opinion... Great singer though... just leave the Elvis songs to Elvis ;-)

  • @drummo777 You couldnt be more right, but Tome Jones is good in his own way, but the distance to Elvis is so far...the stage action, the feelings the voice that matched everything he did the list can go on. Anyway, have a nice day and greeting from the Cold Sweden.

  • Please don't compare Elvis and Tom

Both there are great singers with different type of voices STRONG WARM COOL

    DEEP but different.

  • Crap, Elvis kicks ur ass again...

  • I guess Elvis wouldn't have been able to sing from the soul about the Welsh valleys either.

I like Tom Jones' voice singing other stuff though.

  • @helenaZZZZirlandaise LOL! You are right bout that! Elvis would not even attempted to sing a song form Wales..being it was not in his heart and soul. Jones does a good job..but. why sing it at all! What was the motive? Unless he just liked it.?

  • Got to say the man is a living legend ,bet Tom loves people comparing his and Elvis,s version !

  • Absolutely incredible singing - I didnt believe what I was hearing the first 60 seconds - I have never ever heard something like this incredible, brilliant, astonishing, breathtaking - to marvelous for words a song and a voice and from heaven I almost forget to breathe when I hear this WHAT AN ARTIST !

  • both sing this beautiful song brilliantly, just different, listen to a welsh male voice choir singing it, will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up!!!

  • shit elvis version is more better a 1000 times.

  • Great!!! Tom the Tiger! Elvis the King!!! Two beautiful Voices

  • This one is just another version of the song and there is no comparison needed. They are all good.

  • This was ok but Elvis was far better. Elvis was way more heartfelt but that's why he's the king.

  • @Mahe34 Theres no way you can sing this song the way Tom does on this video and it not be from the heart! I love Elvis but theres no way you can deny Tom's powerful vocals

  • Not even close to Elvis' rendition. It's far more credible and passion-felt when a Southern boy delivers it. No disregard to Tom Jones, but this version is very slow and the arrangement seems to have been made so Tom can really show off his, I admit, great vocal range. But it just doesn't do it for me. "Look awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, look awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Dixieland". Zzzzz.

  • Tom is a more 'athletic' singer. Elvis makes it all seem titanic and world historical. Let's just thank sky god we had them both.

  • in my personnal opinion not as good as elvis but very very nice

  • JUST AMAZING, LOVE TOM JONES.

  • Check out Mickey Newbury's version before you pick a favorite.

  • The Heavy Metal band MANOWAR do a BRILLIANT cover of this on their "Warriors of the World" album. In fact, it's the best version out there, apart from Elvis'. I recommend it to all lovers of this particular song.

And as far as the song not "suiting Tom's voice," a great singer knows how to modify any song to suit his or her voice, which is what Tom did here, so that argument is not really valid.

  • EP / TJ = Friends, Respect: "In August 1974, Elvis gave a big introduction to TJ who was attending his show.

  • "is pretty much Elvis"... I think refers to Elvis's rendition is tops. Sorry jimicairns, did not know Mickey Newbury. Googled him and his 1998 live recording is great. He states "Elvis made this acceptable"

  • ...and not one of you gave any credit to the author and original singer, Mickey Newbury, whose voice was inimitable.

  • I love Newbury singing this as well. Astounding that he simply arranged it from three separate songs...a master class in musical brilliance. I also enjoy Elvis and others including TJ and Englebert. A bit like Amazing Grace...when sung well, it is amazing.

  • Must be that my aged ears don't hear what you noise impaired young people are hearing! BTW Bobby 6900 BITE ME. I'll fucking old coot you! You're not old enough to appreciate any kind of music!

  • I think this song is pretty much Elvis, but I don't think you have heard Tom Jones enough to know what kind of notes he can reach.

  • TJ was at least in the same league/category as Elvis. That is why they were compared . TJ was closest to Elvis. However TJ with perfect health cant touch Elvis in his shape. TJ cant hit Elvis' notes, if he could he would ...SIMPLE.

  • Guijam Tom did have "more range", he was so called "high baritone (more traditional timbre)", and he sings closer to tenor range, and i can give you a good list where of notes and if you want you can check a song by Tom Jones Ive Been Loving You Too Long (youtube) here he sings 2 notes higher than Tenor High C which was highest note by Elvis, and that note Elvis once sang is pretty short. Tho its hard to say who had more range, cos they rarely used full voices, records say Tom hitted highers.

  • TJ and Elvis were different talents, why do people always compare them? TJ doesn't do drugs and is still singing in 2009 at 69 years old. He is a great singer in his own right. Has nothing to do with Elvis. Elvis did this song, okay, Tom does it his way

  • they were different but in the same league/category. They deserved to be compared for obvious reasons. TJ cant hit Elvis' notes, if he could he would ... SIMPLE.

  • I hate to disagree with you when it comes to Elvis Presley. He NEVER had the range that Tom Jones had. He may have had the passion but not the range!

  • Tom didn't attempt the high B note at the end of this piece that Elvis sang though.

  • I was never an Elvis Presley follower and should not make comments............but I adore Tom Jones voice! I refuse to listen to that crap he did that made him rich.I need to hear him singing Amazing Grace and Rhonnda Boy.

  • you old coot you don't know shit....tom jones was a fucking student of elvis listen to what now my love by elvis bitch

  • prove it with videos. Show us

  • Yesterday, Tom Jones was in Top Gear

  • Elvis Is The KinG!!!

  • This is good, no doubt. But Elvis' version...it was like a superhero came to save the world...it was supernatural.

  • elvis version is better ! elvis is king of music !

    but tom is ok ;-)

  • WOW, this is from my year of birth! At this time he was at the same age as me now... unbelievable, the voice sounds as good as today!

thanks for sharing this rare clip!

  • I agree, this isnt best Tom, but he did sang songs like i never fall in love again, and GGGOH better than Elvis, i mean better than anyone like Jerry etc...

  • food for thought, go to tom jones, ill never fall in love again. first recorded by TOM JONES, then click mon elvis ill never fall in love again, no comparison, tom hits those notes and makes it his own, as elvis did this song, and tom can not.

  • im a BIG fan of elvis, and tom, no this doesnt comparer to the king, but he is an incredible singer, as elvis was, he is one of the very best vocalist of the century. he DOES put his evrything, and his heart ans sole into evry song ive ever heard him sing, just ike elvis did, god bless them both

  • Only a real southern man could sing this trilogy! That's why no one other than ELVIS has done it with any grace at all!!

  • tom has a powerful voice that just doesnt suit the song. elvis's vocals were a little more gentle on this song and that was part of the appeal. tom sings the heck out of it and ruins it. all credit to him for paying tribute to his friend. tom is more suited to the songs he sings himself

  • lol, this version is terrible no offence to tom jones but this song don't suit him at all in my opinion no one compares to elvis :)

  • Actually I thought this was pretty good, a great singer singing a great song. Of course we can`t compare this with Elvis. But there were times in Elvis career when we can`t even compare Elvis with "Elvis." What I mean is, watch Elvis That`s the way It Is. And then watch Elvis in Concert ( ie final show ). I remember reading somewhere that toward his final few years even Elvis wished he could be Elvis once more !

  • He is from Wales - Not the South!

  • It is crap, it is awful and he should have just left it alone. It may be one of the most beautiful and spiritual songs ever performed by Elvis and we all know it is unrivaled to this day!!!!

  • this is nothing short off crap utter shit

  • I never said I didn't like Tom Jones...I love him...not as much as Elvis but I do love the beautiful ballads he does...I am just saying this is not his song it doesn't fit him...and further in this video he it seems was making fun of Nashville in other words Nashville is hillbilly hick...many a good singer and song has come out of Nashville...and why the cursing?

  • Ahh well im just full of ppl, who just say but dont know anything, or the facts.

Ofc he can sing any song he wants, and did own version of this, its artistry...

  • Sure he can sing anything he wants...however if the song doesn't fit his voice then it's no good...you know you should chill...no one is bad mouthing Tom...just pointing some facts...that some people don't need to do some songs...it doesn't fit them...oh why am I trying to get you to understand...however this song does fit Elvis

  • i think no im sure hundreds thousands off people would disagree with that in fack music history proves that elvis was is and will for ever be the greatest singer off all time no voice can even come close 2 elvis

  • I agree. i dont like this version.

  • Tom's performance is certainly good. But, Elvis's rendition is nothing short of breathtaking!

  • I don't get the chills and goosebumps when Tom sings it as I do when Elvis sings it....music is one of those things that has to give you feeling and emotion...this doesn't do it...when I hear Elvis sing this...it makes me stand to attention and think about our men and women out there giving the ultimate sacrifice!

  • I love Tom Jones...but please...this is Elvis' song and further more...Tom isn't even from here or the south...what does he know about our civil war?...Please Tom stick to your songs and leave this one alone...

  • tom does this justice. you dont have to be southern to sing it.and you dont have to know about the civil war.music is universal,it doesnt choose who can sing or listen to it.but i agree, its elvis's song and he does it best

  • @DebiNga It's not Elvis's song ;it belongs heart and soul to the writer, Mickey Newbury.

  • ELVIS THE KING. What the hell is this sh!t.

  • Both Elvis' and Tom's interpretations are fantastic. Elvis was a massive Tom Jones fan and I'm sure he'd think the same as me!

  • thats it exactly sazzle34.and furthermore they were friends with a mutual respect for one another

  • I'm a big fan of Elvis and Tom but Elvis interpretation was a lot better. Tom was was tiring and way too pushy.
