If I could listen only to 1 classical guitarist right now it would be Mr.JasonVieux. I think Bach would be thrilled to hear this as well as other interpretations of his music!Regardless of what so many characters refer to as the 'composers original intention' There is plenty new in this interpretation for those who have ears to hear it.I feel the artist has imbibed deeply of the traditions and found his own way which is a great inspiration& look at his joy in playing & the audience response Olé!
"I think what s important in Classical music is to stay true to the composer's intent of the piece"
- I agree, equally important is the individual's own interpretation... some will be effective, others will not. That's just reality and personal taste will also be a factor.
But I do feel many pieces, because of thier immediate attractiveness, have been over played and over emphasized as a whole. This piece is an example, as is "Concierto de Aranjuez"... It's time to empasize others.
Well played but I wish guitarists would step away from well-worn pieces like this one. There's a wealth of other music which should be emphasized, it's time to bring new pieces into the mainstream consciousness of the guitar world.
It's difficult for Jason Vieux, as talented and as able-bodied as he is, to really say anything new with this piece.
@DavePazz I think what s important in Classical music is to stay true to the composer's intent of the piece, find the right spirit to it. I find many skilled players outhere even professionals but by one way or another slaughter the songs which is disappointing. Have no respect about execution then you start loosing interests. What would the future of music holds without Bachs, Brouwer, Barrios to name a few as inspirations??
