in soap time Roger had been "dead" for 15 years but in real time it was only 9 years, 1980-1989, just in case anyone may get confused and wonder why Alan would say 15 years when in fact it was only 9.
well, Roger is one of the rare times when the character had been played by Michael Zaslow from the character's start in 1971 through 1980 and here you see him in the summer of 1989 during the "Roger is Alive" story. When Michael came down with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease, he was let go in 1997 and they tried to re-cast the role but the actor wasn't "Michael Zaslow" and it didn't work out and so they wrote Roger and Amanda off the show as having married...years later it was revealed Roger had died.
