@wimeising I've not heard that....I'll check it out. Following the guitar riff is probably the way to go unless yo've got two or three guitarists IMHO.
@Chatmire72 I was originally gonna do that in this series of tutorials - but when I started transcribing it I quickly realized that it was a complex bass line and too advanced for a lot of my subscribers. (it's a wicked line - I understand Keith played it).
@Chatmire72 Yeah I heard that AFTER I posted the video! (Hangs head in shame - I just assumed it was Bill.) Keith also played the totally wicked line on Sympathy for the Devil. Very cool line!
@breakkfastman1573 That's not something that I currently do - there are some good lessons on YouTube on Double Thumb though....I'll try and find them and put them on the How To Play Bass Dot Com Facebook page....
@breakkfastman1573 Hey - I don't do slapping - long story, but I no longer 'hear' the sound of slapping for the bass. Unless you're doing the Vic Wooten double thumb thing...check out MarloweDK's channel for some slap lessons for beginners.
JJF is in B, not Bb. Keef originally played it on a Les Paul in open E. Nowadays plays it on a '72 Tele Custom, open G tuning, capo on the 4th fret. Maybe they weren't in concert pitch when they recorded it.
@MancBuz It's interesting - cos I've always played it in B too, in at least five different bands down the years, - but when I went to check what I was playing against the original I found that the original was in Bb. Go figure.
@howtoplaybassdotcom: Well, I'm not to sure but I believe I know that from Keith's Book, Life. Oh, and it's on the song's Wikipedia page! Apparently Bill came up with the riff, but he didn't actually play it on the track!
I play the studio version on the bottom 2 strings only. It sounds very close to the original then.

The bass on the Get Yer Ya Ya's Out live version is very similar to the way all the bar bands cover it... = following the guitar riff..
