Modern Christian music seems like a massive competition to see who can sound the most like Coldplay/U2.

And the repetition of style, stock standard instrumentation and musical structure that doesn't go beyond what a music student learns in grade 8 music barely touches on the amazing, diverse creation that is music.

It's very repetitive and uninspired. It's like going to a breathtaking buffet and eating nothing but bread.

@milkenobi Not all. But i agree. Hillsong doesn't even play with modes. It's kind of crazy that a band could get so big without knowing basic music theory. Check out ascend the hill or Adriel. They have songs in 7/8 and stuff like that. It's pretty sick.

But in a situation like this where you have a formula of extremely basic music that barely exploits the absolute miracle that is music and doesn't stray from stock standard instrumentation, its clear this band is creatively baron. It's like being a chef and cooking with only one ingredient or an artists that only paints with a single colour. It's so limited

@milkenobi Yeah dude i totally agree. It's about being tasteful more so than complex. But at the same time there is a line in which it can get just plain boring. Don't get me wrong i love Hillsong. But some of there stuff is almost insultingly basic. But i've always been frustrated at the lack of skill in worship music, especially in guitar. I am barely ever impressed, which sucks because i am a worship guitarist. People need to learn theory instead of songs.
