I know Kevin, as far as we went on the same school bus. I remember when I turned up to his parents farm in my 260z 2+2 wanting to get it tuned ( his old man was a wiz with Jags, SU carbs etc.) so I can't help thinking that it was a little bit of an influence on him as far as Zed's go, he had a good look at it and asked a couple of questions. But anyway If I had the dollars I could make a Zed that would eat that thing, and yeah it would be a manual. Think 260z 2 seater with Godzilla awd.

automatics have faster shifting. so your not losing power when it shifts cause u dont let off the gas. so they have faster quarter mile times and such but i would perfer manual for track racing cause i can down sift out of a cornner and get all that power of high rpm. so there u go it really depends on the type of race wether its faster or not

You're still shifting gears regardless, and thus the RPM's are dropping and you have to re-gain the torque and acceleration that comes with winding the engine back up through each gear. If you're good enough at shifting in a manual, there is a minimal (if any) loss of acceleration.

I agreed what petervsays, thats why they invented the sequential gearing with either a pull/push stick or paddeshift. I would love to see a american try to race NASCAR with powerglide or any automatics at all. Or FORMULA 1 / INDY 500 with automatic gearbox... THERE IS A REASON WHY THEY AINT DOING IT !

autos may not be the fastest race cars, but this car gets off the line faster than any other hillclimb car in australia. this car holds tin top records at all but one track in australia. the car was clocked at this track at 158 kilometers an hour in under 5 seconds, and imagine what it comes out of a turn like with a 5,000converter, peak power at 8,200 RPM.

I can imagine they're easier to launch because it'll be the same every time, but torque convertors do sap a lot of power. If you buy a car and look at 0-60 times manual is always faster. Is it purely because there's no issue with getting it off the line the same every time?

It no WRX Running gear but Toyota landcruiser (G100 awd cruser) I belive as the motor would sit to far forward with a WRX (the front drive shafts are part of the gearbox on a wrx.

yes it is an auto but no sure. you can tell it 4wd running as gear as it have a 6 bolt stud pattern !

When I saw this car run a hillclimb event in Adelaide, SA last week it ran a auto and a NASCAR 6 litre V8 on Nos. It took out the event with little competition.

fyi i have actually seen and talked to the guy in the pits at a hill climb it runs a rodex 350 sbc turbo 400 and a hilux transfer case to all custom front diff and cv's , the reason for the 6 stud bolt pattern was really cheap sunraisias because it was designed for dirt events originally

Yes it definitely is an Auto... it is a 350 chev (last time i looked) and yes it is awd... i think it was made to compete on loose surface hill climbs (boisdale (Vic, Australia)) and to see this thing in the flesh is bloody awesome....

I've seen this car in the flesh and it's unreal. The exhaust note is incredible when you're standing next to it lol. I believe a lot of the AWD system is borrowed from a late model WRX's setup. The amount of custom fab work in this car is unbelievable - I struggle to understand how he fitted all the suspension & driveline gear under the 383 stroker, but it obviously worked well because the car is very successful.
