  • 10:26 typo? 'If' ...idk

  • You don't know for sure that animals can't comprehend a creator.

  • I often get comments telling me I'm an atheist because I want to sin. Which is laughable, because I'm an ordinary married woman with kids leading a perfectly ordinary, law-abiding life. I read extensively, enjoy documentaries and movies, and spending quality time with family and friends. The most exciting thing I do is go with my family to our vacation cabin on weekends. Maybe have a beer or two. I'm really not the sinning type.

  • Wow, I am so glad you have made these videos, I have resolved so much conflicts inside me I am 62 and have been plagued with so much controversy of beliefs, I never believed in GOD or supreme being. also I use spell check as much as possible but when spell check comes back and has no clue what your trying to spell makes you wonder how smart are you. I can build design buildings of any type, repair most machines and design and improve a lot of them. but I do not get paid for most of my work

  • @AngstromJohnny If I am doing this reply right here , I have a 7th grade education, had a hard time with English, born in Belgium spoke french German and wollen, came here at 6 and was treated with autism, I am not, I am so amazed of you and the other peachesm,Potholer54,C0nc0rdance,Chrismartensondotcom,Devchelle2,Grapplingignorance,Chris, I hope I did not forget someone, youitube has given me the opportunity to meet all you beautiful people,Your minds and ability astounds me.thank ever so much

  • @AngstromJohnny I had to look up ZOMGitsCriss in my subscription she was the one I started with and in time has brought me here. I have just watched all your Discovering Religion videos and was just so trapped I stayed up all night just to watch them some twice cause I did not wasn't to miss something, I wish I had your talent, you people are the truth keepers of our civilization. like the Greeks of the past. I just hope that for the future the species can learn or at least just listen

  • @AngstromJohnny I like your rhyfelur's Channel

especially "Sade ~ Nothing Can Come Between Us" nice beat and voice"

  • @AngstromJohnny so I do not miss anyone also Christopher hitchens,GreatBigBore,Xxxthepeachxxx, I posted this for a few reasons, let those who may say GOD exists, go thru all these people FIRST, before attacking that your supreme being exists, and stop the destructive brain washing imposed on the children wh may just grow up to be one of these people, for they have taken the time to bring the truth to you, I personally, want no more of this life and preparing to leave it

  • @AngstromJohnny I do not know how to write what I do or it takes so long to write the tasks and then figure the bill. just not my thing I would like to just fix or build things without money bull shit and also live life with out the religious horse shit and they knock on my door sat morning teaching GOD and ask me what I think I tell them I think your fucking nuts get a book on science asshole, then we can talk, love your rants, they where the best, makes me lmao rotf

  • it's crazy that because it's a church and a preacher can say whatever they wish ti influence people however they wish. There is no regulation in religion. This guy just called a baby evil killer. But it was ok because he is preaching, that's bs. The bible is a book to control a population. Fear influences people to fear a higher power and in these times it's goverment. Good channel.

  • Christians fluffing up the religion I can appreciate. Especially after hearing a preacher talking up God as the blood thirsty rapist that he's portrayed as in the Bible. No good can come from a man of God embracing that version.

How ironic would it be if souls were to evolve into being without the need of a God to make them?

  • If god doesn't exist within space and time means that god isn't REAL!

  • Fantastic videos! The only thing that surprises me is that you now and then engage in conversation with some theist assholes that make idiotic comments here. I would just ignore them.

  • Ah you poor love :) Studying medicine. That must suck! :P I'm impressed at your dedication to these videos though. Fantastic, and really well done :) Good luck meeting girls! hehe :)

  • I always thought sins were about deeds - not thoughts. At least I'd like to be judged by my actions. What's inside my head is sometimes nasty but that's mine and mine alone.

  • RELIGION NUTS !

  • Lol, God needs an I love haters DGK shirt since everyone is born hating him..

  • Take a break from making vids dude and get some pussy. Everyone deserves some action now and then.

  • Awesome vid!!

  • @DR

    Cats were actually self-domesticating.

Dogs are of course active in every phase of human life and were actively brought into the human fold.

Cats, on the other hand, forced themselves into our consciousness by their amazing prowess in eliminating vermin by their very nature.

They lived on the fringes of proto-human development for millennia, eventually becoming indispensable for their positive effect on mortality and their overall amazingness.

    Cats rule. End of list.

  • @godhatesyeast Actually I just watched a very interesting documentary that shows that dogs "self-domesticated" themselves in a very similar way as what you described for cats. Wolves used to live on the outskirts of human settlements scavenging off our garbage and overtime wolves that were more tame and less likely to run when humans approached were selected for as they could get access to more food and in a very short period of time (70 years or so) protodogs evolved.

  • @Sendamagicmoment There was a very well known study done on foxes in the Soviet Union that shows exactly how this happens. Really very interesting stuff.

  • Unfortunately, even engaging in a discussion over the existence of souls completely invalidates the processes of evolution to the theist.

A soul cannot exist without the divine will of a god or gods. End of list.

Arguing about the addition of the soul to humanity through evolutionary processes against theists is like arguing about the addition of flavor to British cuisine through garlic against attendees of a chip butty festival in Yorkshire.

    Nah. Gah. Happah.

  • @godhatesyeast

    Oh shit...

Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls might be my new mantra.

    SDASR FTW!!!

  • @godhatesyeast

How can an omniscient, omnipotent, all-benevolent gawd fuck up his creation so badly that he needs to hit the reset button?

    /deity epic colossal all-encompassing FAIL

  • @godhatesyeast

    Gotta love the pastoral formula:

    1: Quote a bible verse

B: Tell an anecdote about something that happened to you involving a doubter/nonbeliever that is not at all related to the bible verse in any way

~: You're all going to hell unless you can make some synthesis out of the previous completely unrelated speeches

    #: Repeat until brainwashing complete

    *: Collect underpants

    V: ----------

    |: Profit!!!!!

    Religion!

  • I have no clue what that pastor was talking about. I'd love to show everyone all the thoughts ive had! It would be quite entertaining. As long as my gf wasnt watching haha,

  • @Rayzersword I am a sinner and proud of it!

  • That pastor is fucked up in the head.

  • That pastor is fucked up in the head.

  • I'm an agnostic but if there is an intelligent alien life force out there with civilizations such as ours then i will accept atheism! i just think there must have been a god out there to make us as intelligent as we are and continue to increase that intelligence level with science and technology. Animals just aren't half as intelligent as we are. Let me know what you think.

  • @halflifeproductionz Animals are less intelligent because we humans, with our relatively weak bodies and constitutions, evolved brains much larger than our spinal cords, in order to compensate for our physical shortcomings with intelligence.

  • I wonder how many in that congregation would leave their kid alone with that creepy ass pastor...

  • Oh yeah, Discoveringreligion's favo beer is a Belgian beer, baby! We belgians rule!

  • Greetings,

I enjoyed this video along with your normal series of discovering religion. One thing I notice in this was you mention hitler was roman catholic. I know he along with most germans during they time were brought up in the church. Slowly after taking power there was a slow spread of the old religion takeing over. Himmler I belive was big on this push but it was felt through out most of the Nazi party, mainly due to the fact they (nazi part didnt want to worship a jew).

  • I know you have alot of research on your plate (both with your series, and in your studies best of luck), I am by no means trying to start a net debate with you just a fyi. One thing I thought you might find interesting though I talked with a jehovah's witness today and he against the practice of christmas. In his search for belief he correlated the nativity scene to the golden calf from exodus, and showed how both were idols used to worship god but broke the 2nd commandment.

  • babies are evil

  • LOL, moon Mormons

  • Wow, I hate constantly reposting BUTTTTT you pointed out how at about 10:15 the guy actually starts making sense and probably de-converted a few people. lmao, WIN

  • 5:35 AAAAWWWEEEEE

  • You went all out! haha. You've had a lot of grinding gears, I'm glad that you were able to get it all out!

  • Christians hate when you bring up the FACT that Hitler was a Christian! LOL

  • Hmm... I'd act out my darkest fantasies without God? Um no.

I'm an atheist. I don't drink much at all. I don't do drugs. I'm monogamous. I'm even a vegetarian (due to the fact that I don't think there's a wide gulf between animals and humans - shown vividly in this two-part series). I could easily go get a burger, and even Yaweh wouldn't care. But I don't.

I'm afraid I'm actually a good person inside. I know...unbelievable! Oh, and I'll let any friend know my masturbation schedule if they ask.

  • @Rationalific

If fundies like Rush Limbaugh, Jack Chick, and Rick Perry aren't acting out their dark fantasies, I'd really hate to see them do.

  • That preacher is projecting. LOL

  • Didn't Dostoyevsky say something to the effect that "1 + 1 = 3 is not without its adherents"? Kinda ironic that he was an Orthodox Christian...

  • Nicely done 5 stars

The obnoxious preacher clip just summed-up the dependency society has on religion; make everyone think they're evil and the antidote is faith, it's the most diabolical creation of man

  • Did you kind of take the 1 + 1=3 thing from 1984?

  • 5:33 That's sad... Jesus gave you a penis for a reason! :)

    Aren't there cute med students?

It's a shame that good people waste their time on false religions instead of fighting real corruption and abuses in human society

  • 6:53-7:05 Lol I tell my best friend all of my fucked up thoughts. It can be rather rehabilitating. Maybe this guy needs a better, existent friend.

  • Very good videos, the same things grind my gears too. That and some elements of feminism, all of racism (not to be confused with disliking a culture) and pineapples, man I hate pineapples.

  • @Pazma1 Out of curiosity, which elements of feminism? I kind of hate the way the term is thrown around because there are many branches of feminism and, across the board, they don't have much in common aside from an overlap on women's issues. So when I see an opinion like yours I just like to make sure that they're aware that the term "feminism" is just as vague as "philosophy" or "cat."

  • @waltonky

I'd rather show you than type a long message. Watch this: watch?v=4JA4EPRbWhQ

It's not my video and he gets quite a bit more angry about it than I do but he has a very valid point and it grinds my gears. It was fresh in my memory so that's probably why I thought of it.

  • @Pazma1 I think TAA makes some good points about gender perception in our society, but there are feminists who would agree with him: that it is sexist that men are not allowed to make light of cutting a woman's tits off. And not all feminists are limited to female or even gender issues. For instance, Karen Warren is against the logic of domination which she thinks is at the root of all forms of oppression. So I think TAA's understanding of feminism here is too narrow and stereotyped.

  • Amazing how radical Christians constantly refer to the Old Testament..

  • I am SO glad someone finally tackled the religiously-inclined about animals not having souls or higher emotions! It doesn't require great intelligence or in-depth research to see that many animals - like Man's Best Friend - can and DO feel and express such emotions, and are capable of altruism to the same degree as our 'vaunted' race. You just need eyes, ears and common sense.

  • Thumbs up for Hoegaarden!

  • Hey DiscoveringReligion, I love your videos! I don't know how you managed to watch that preacher go on though... I just skipped through it LOL!

  • That preacher scared me... Is he the Anti-christ?

  • Comment removed

  • i suspect that this preacher has anger management issues.sadder still, he is telling his congregation EXACTLY what HE thinks of them, and they will likely smile and shake his hand as they leave and keep paying him for the privilige.10:48...did he just listen to what he said?did anyone in that church hear what he really said?can we hope?

  • 7:26...i suspect this preacher is projecting here...something tells me the 'young man' in his story is himself.

8:52...so,the only reason 18 mo. olds don't kill is they lack the physical strength?hm.makes me glad i quit breastfeeding at a year...also:that corrections officer needs some mental help s.t.a.t.!!!

we go from babies to hitler in less than 30 seconds!make those parents fear for themselves and their kids, preacher!

  • holy shit, that preacher has obiviously lost his marbles.

  • an "evil babe"?!?!

    yes, please!

  • big fan! However...trillions and trillions of galaxies? I thought our best estimate now is around 100 billion...

  • @papasitoman

Hmm, I thought there was much more than 100 billion, but apparently I am wrong. Thanks a lot for the correction and I am glad you enjoy the video!

  • @DiscoveringReligion

Well, you're not *completely* wrong. That best estimate of 100 billion is for the observable universe, not the entire universe. The entire universe may be as much as 10^23 times larger than the observable... Or (put in a slightly less incomprehensible way) the entire universe compared to the observable may be as large as the observable universe is to an atom.

Having said that though, we can't even be entirely sure that the universe has a finite limit at all...

  • just because you dont belive in God, it dosnt mean he isn't restraining you from commiting evil deeds, it dosn't mean he isn't on your side helping your through the dark days and bad thoughts. It just means you simply don't belive in him.

  • @dontrililikepackies1 "it dosnt mean he isn't restraining you from commiting evil deeds". Huh? Isn't this god of your supposed to have given us free will?

  • @XheraPhine He's given you free will to listen to him or to do evil ! that is free will ultimately! Have you even watched this video or are you just trying to spam troll my comment? He can only influence you, the final descision is down to your self, good or bad.. sin or not. I'm not perfect and i'm just giving my perspective on what I have watched and my input. I may be wrong. Who knows. Put it this way, there are things in the life we just can never grasp the concept of or understand.

  • @dontrililikepackies1 There is nothing "spam trolling" about asking a legit question as far as I know. Your initial comment implies that this god (can) restrain people from doing things. If you restrain someone from doing something, obviously they have no choice. Thus my question.

  • @XheraPhine Let me refrase my initial comment for you sir! not physically restraining but positively influenceing ones thoughts. It is then up to the human being as to which action he takes, various thoughts can come into our minds it's upto us what we do with them good or bad. I'm saying I belive God is there giving us positive coaching and a positive influence but we have free will, he can't make the choices for us. That's why were free beings.

  • @XheraPhine for example - if you were my little brother and I was a big brother figure (lets say for arguments sake I wasn't around anymore but you belived I was in heaven, you decide to rob a local shop, but your big brother says don't do that in the back of your mind you think to your self, he would be displeased. That's just an example completely made up to explain to you the psyology behind my belief. God doesn't want you to sin, and you feel the pull butt we sin sometimes anyway..

  • Excellent Vid. I almost could not make it through that idiotic preacher's speech... I'm glad I did though..because the family guy at the end was epic.. made me laugh big time.

  • Theists have been brought up to think irrationally, this is the reason you have to explain to them a countless number of times that their "arguments" are merely speculations. It's kind of inane and almost futile.

  • @AltruisticSelfishnes

Isn't it exactly same with atheists?

Of course they do not believe in god, but they still believe in almost everything else without any prof.

try to discuss some controversial topic with atheist and you will get exactly same results as discussing with theist.

  • @deltaxcd They still believe in almost everything else without any proof?

I'm sorry, that isn't true at all, I don't know where you're deriving your information from.

Okay, so you're essentially saying atheists make huge leaps in faith on controversial topics and end up layingclaimto unreasonable, unproven claims?

Again, I don't know where you're acquiring your information. No intellectually honest atheist is going to arrive at any illogical conclusion or claim anything that can't be proven.

  • @AltruisticSelfishnes

I am deriving that information from my own experience.

For example atheists often claims support for gays, but do not accept zoophiles or other deviations.

Atheists may or may not support abortions, but most will object infanticide, even if they have no logical basis for such beliefs.

In result it is just same as theists, if atheists feels bad about something he declares that as taboo using some absurd logic or just stating it as unquestionable truth.

  • @deltaxcd So anecdotal evidence?

Bestiality? lol I would hardly call that an important controversial issue.

Abortion is done before the embryo develops a nervous system etc

Infanticide is actually killing a fully developed new born baby.

    How are they the same?

What illogical beliefs are you even talking about?

"In result it is just same as theists, if atheists feels bad about something he declares that as taboo using some absurd logic or just stating it as unquestionable truth."

    LOL NO...

  • @AltruisticSelfishnes

There is no reason to laugh, you are further proof of what I said.

Ok, lets take as example your belief that it is forbidden to kill your own babies.

can you logically prove it without contradicting with your other beliefs?

If you believe in evolution, you know that humans are just one of animal species so you cant use different standards for dogs and humans.

  • @deltaxcd Can I logically prove what?

You don't make any sense, is your first language English?

  • @AltruisticSelfishnes

No, english is not my native language.

Ok , I ask you to logically prove that human deserves different treatment than other animals on earth.

Unless you believe that human rights are same as animal rights.

we can kill animals without big problems then why we cant kill human babies?

  • @deltaxcd That is humanities double standard, not mine. Probably came about through theist thinking, I don't beleive they should be killing animal babies...

But I don't see how this has anything to do with atheists.

  • @AltruisticSelfishnes

that was just an example of atheistic claim.

    You say

"No intellectually honest atheist is going to arrive at any illogical conclusion or claim anything that can't be proven."

"life is precious", or "slavery is wrong", or "gays must have same rights as straight", etc. are claims that atheists often say.

these clams cant be proven, and yet, they are stated as truth.

This means you are wrong: atheists do claim a lot what cannot be proven.

  • Even if I made videos, I think there would be too many things that grind my gears for me to mention.

  • Great video, great music, Aphex Twin is awesome!

  • You finally dropped the F Bomb, and it was place appropriately. My cousin and I are 49er fans, so god must be on a 10 year anti niner grudge. When I mention this to my cousin, he gets pissed. The animal conscience is going to be a new piece of ammo that I will use, I really thank you for that. I will be doing a response due to the fact that I owe you for a change, and I need an "I am Atheist" video. Thank you for this. Cheers to the HoeG.

  • People pushing for the teaching of creationism in schools doesn't grind your gears?

Would there be too much swearing to cover that in a video?

  • I doubt you are boring. I believe Studying medicine would be exciting. I wish I was intelligent enough to to study medicine.

  • These are the first videos of yours I've watched and I like them. Does this mean I'm tagged? I've never made a video before, I'm just a serial watcher finding many interesting videos. Hmmm...

  • Animals are better people. It is proven now.

  • Someone should look in Paul Washer's closet... or under his bed. He's carrying a boatload of guilt.

  • Religious alien artwork ftw!

  • That Paul Washer guy seems to know what wickedness is. But what can be reckoned as wickedness? His talk about a 18 month old baby is irrelevant because all babies want to do is to explore, as MonkeySpecs301 says before me.

  • why say no to an 18month old baby when all they want is to explore the world?

  • why do fuckin pastors tell you to go to a verse when they are going to read it out loud anyway? such retarded and time wasting congregations

  • Fantastic video. After watching the Fisher clip, I had to pause. Christianity really does disgust me. A cult lead by self-loathing, DoubleTalk fuckwits demanding we become as self-loathing as they are and cling to their placebo cure...all the while demanding it's love.

I don't believe in any 'ultimate evil personified' - but if it exists, it created the Abrahamic religions.

  • 10:40 - 10:45 is awesome =D You should loop those five seconds and make it a 10 minute video.. and send it to all christians you know.

Great episode and keep up the good work!

  • You're having sex with a child!

Oh, made you think it! Now you're going to Hell!

  • You're having sex with a child!

Oh, made you think it! Now you're going to Hell!

  • Not able to make a video but what grinds my gears are Christians who, while defending their faith and beliefs, reveal that they have never actually read the Bible or know anything substantive about the history of their religion. For example, the Christian who once asked me, "Other than the Crusades, what violence have Christians ever committed in the name of their religion?" It was supposed to be rhetorical, he was that clueless.

  • your vids are always thought provoking and educational...plz post again soon

  • your vids are always thought provoking and educational...plz post again soon

  • hitler was a christain

  • that preacher is a prick. i'd like to see him beaten and crying like a baby. the devil must have control of me.

  • We are of one mind on that wrist thing....don't forget, you have to " read"his black heart . (Only way I know to post.)

  • Thanks for the vid, refreshed my brain :)

  • Wait. You can smoke PCP? I didn't know that.

  • 'men are sinners and evil but god loves you, without god you'd be lost'

    Let's reword that slightly:

'you're a horrible woman but I love you, without me you'd be alone'

When a human treats another human like that we can see it's an abusive controlling relationship and say the victim should escape yet when the victims of the abusive relationship called religion escape they are condemed.

  • Do some more vids making fun of crazy priest, please You made ma day a little better

  • Step outside of our galaxy,.... no one would ever know that planet Earth is here with all of it's amazing forms of life. Imagine if only 1/10 of all galaxies contain just 1 earth type planet

Millions of potential earths in the universe. Logic dictates it must be so. 'The earth is God's foot stool...' (Acts 7:49) . Obviously written by men ignorant of the vastness & true nature of the cosmos..

  • STARGATE FTW !!!

  • Man, your videos are always so good!! I agree with you on so many points in these videos and similar things GRIND MY GEARS.. :)

  • Thank you :)

  • I don't have the simplest idea why moronic christfags say that every single person wants to kill, torture and rape

I've never wanted that, nor would I mind it so much if a bunch of people saw my thoughts (save the chocking my chicken thoughts)

Perhaps they are crazy psychopathic murderers and they judge us all by their own standarts

  • @6:28 "If I could take out your heart..." Uh, fucktard, no thoughts occur in the heart...

@6:32-~7:40 Yay for though crime convictions! Thanks be to god for giving us the brain that can imagine and the emotions to drive it and then punish us for having it!

  • lol the guy at 7:11 seems to belief that all other humans have such wicked and sick thoughts like he has. He needs a therapy.

  • @Mengster13 You ought to have thrown in some grammar and spelling errors to throw the brain, and DR, for a loop.

  • @Mengster13

LOLOL!!! Ok, I must say that is impressive. It must have taken you a long time to write that and I have to give respect for that one. :)

  • @Mengster13 5P3AK1N6 1N NUM83R5...is not my thing.

  • You only make one mistake (or maybe you are talking representing theists), but there is no difference between "animals" and "humans", each animal specie is unique and humans are just one animal specie more.

  • You should visit Belgium. We invented Hoegaarden. :-).

  • @Candide52 no he shouldn't, i lived there for 7 years, they are more Catholic than the Vatican :D

My parents even let me get Baptized when i was 14, eventhou i was an Atheist at that time already.

my litle sister came home one day from school crying, her teacher told my sister in front of all other kids that she is not a child of god, because she wasn't baptized. But it was a cool time anyway, and in the cities people were less religious nutters.

  • @Candide52

I have been there! However, I only had enough time to stay in Brussels. It was wonderful, I drank so much beer and ate so much chocolate, haha. I drank at this one pub that was very good, but I cannot remember the name. Outside of the pub there was the girl version of "Manneken Pis", and it had a phone book sized list of beer. I'll definitely make it back there my next trip to Europe. :)

  • @ Aanthanur

I'm sorry to hear that. Where did you live in Belgium? (Also: do you speak Dutch? :p)

    @ DiscoveringReligion:

So you've already seen 'Jeanneke pis', one of our *cough* national treasures. :-).

I'm currently studying in Brussels, so i'm more than happy to show you around when you're visiting Europe.

  • I was raised like this Paul Washer believing similar things like him. But unlike him i was cured from it in a psychiatry, while Washer makes the boobyhatches be full...

  • what i want to punch that preacher in the face. If he reality think like that he is insane

  • @SmallFries01 Since you've already thought about it, it's the same as doing it, so you might as well do it. And if really practiced what he preached he would have to turn the other cheek

  • I am pretty sure the ounce is not a unit of measurement for energy, paul washer :)

  • You made a graven image of Alien Muhammad. Watch out, they are on their way to Earth, to make an example of you.

  • @Cayvmann

Hahahaha. I thought about that, but then went ahead with it anyway. :)

  • That pastor scares me. What the fuck is he thinking about all day? Sure, some nasty thoughts have crossed my mind. We can't help it when things cross our minds, even rape and torture. But not something I would not be able to tell my closest friend, since we've ALL have had things like that crossing our minds. So grown people will understand that they're just thoughts. But apparently this pastor thinks about even more horrific things every hour. O_O

  • 6:40 My friends know what I'm like, that's why their my friends. I have told them I'm a communist, I read Marquis de Sade. If we hide everything from people then no one would know our true feelings towards each other. And he mentions Hitler just Google search 'Godwin's law'.

Just wondering is there going to be a video on religion and politics like church and state and how people use religion in their politics?

  • You don't like Paul Washer? He is Epic! ;)

  • 6:30 Oh man!! I wish this guy had come to my campus and said this to me. Because I would have laughed louder and more merrily than I have ever laughed in my whole life because this guy just said the most presumptuous thing I've ever heard from anyone.

I find no shame in my private thoughts. I wish I COULD turn my thoughts into a video to share with the world because I find some of my grandest and most beautiful ideas to be very difficult to express in words. And I would love to share them.

  • this was epic. Thx DR.

  • That pastor made me sick to my stomach. I hate religion. There is nothing good about it.

  • Why do preachers always have these amazing anecdotes involving these well worded exchanges? I have never believed a one of them because I am pretty damn sure they are lying.

  • You said medial prefrontal cortex, but it's my understanding that the temporal lobes house most feelings of religiosity. Am I wrong, or do both regions have about the same influence?

  • @MrStillmans

I recently finished listening to the "Moral Landscape" audiobook, by Sam Harris. Harris talks at length about "belief" and he even discusses his personal research, where he tests parts of the brain that light up when he asks a subject questions that deal with beliefs verses facts. Harris finds that beliefs activate the medial prefrontal cortext. It's an excellent book, definitely check it out if you get time. It's on DRCited.

  • You should do a video on the physiological influences in the church organization. what kind of techniques and manipulations preachers and pastors use to convert people? How do people start believing? Why is it so effective? and etc...

I am a freethinker, but it baffles my mind how people submit to these organizations and do as they are told once they are in restraint.

  • @MrEngene

Actually, I plan on making a video like that someday. I want to compare the techniques Christians and Scientologists use to indoctrinate their follows. In a nut shell, if one hasn't already accepted religion from an early age, people generally go seeking religion/God when they are in their lowest, most vulnerable state, such as during depression, addiction, poverty-stricken, etc. Cults take advantage of this, breaking the subject down and then building them up in the cult's image.

  • @DiscoveringReligion

That is a very true point. I do however see lots of people that have good successful lives and still get converted. I have seen so myself when I was a devoted christian. Upon studying a vast amount of organizations and their structures that are successful, i.e. Apple inc. Google and etc, I have noticed that when managing such organization one of their main priority is to make a person feel a sense of belonging. This is one of my major conclusions.

  • @DiscoveringReligion

This is also visible when looking at cultures. USA being an individualistic country and culture style may have people lacking a sense of belonging and thus making them look for it. This results to a high amount of churches in USA, and they are still growing. China being a collectivist country and culture has a good amount of this belonging feel, and in result its very unsuccessful to plant a church there. It just dose not work well in China.

  • great channel, thanks

  • Radha Soamis...they say it is not a religion but hey believe aliens exist and that all cells have souls. Like water they can combine together. I think it would be interesting if you took a "whack" at it.

  • That preacher sounds like he is projecting his own evil thoughts onto others.

  • It's great to hear you openly express your opinion. I totally identify with you. Lately christians are driving me freaking nuts with their spin on the natural disasters and the upcoming elections.

  • im pretty sure im nitpicking here but I bet to differ on not being able to hate god bases on not existing. its kinda hard to argue that god isnt a literary figure much in the same way lady Macbeth and palpatine and as they are character who are modeled in a way that humans can comprehend they can be juged so I think that its possible to say "I hate god" just as you can like a fictional character

huh... is this a situation were I can use the bible as citation? I can point to god being a prick

  • And when you think you heard it all, you find out about the "killer babies"

  • The preacher makes me sick.

  • LOL priest has a very matching name: "Paul Washer"

It'd be more awesome if he had name "Brian", or better yet straight "Brain"!

  • @SEThatered

Brian Washer would be an awesome name for a priest! Let's create a fake religion and make him the leader. :)

  • great vid, what I really gained from this though is that dogs are infinitely better than cats

  • @doujin

Admittedly I am a cat person, but dogs really are amazing animals. Perhaps we have a hand in it though, as human beings have tinkered with dog evolution for thousands of years now. But the characteristics that allow dogs and humans to interact so closely had to have been there from the start.

  • @DiscoveringReligion I've never gotten the appeal of cats. I have both a cat and a dog, and my cat's a lazy wee shit. Whereas all dogs, if you give them love, they love you back. Cats, however, are ungrateful of all the care they get!
