  • do you have to clip their wings?

  • @Hyphy101dre Nope, they dont want to leave!

  • GOOSAY!!!!! I WANT ONE AND ITS GONNA BE MY BEST FRIEND!!!

  • The easiest pet I have ever owned. They are very harmonious with their surroundings. The midnight quarrels take getting used to. I love this video. Its a shame you don't have a pond on every part of your property.

  • @juniornutshell they ARE very easy and lovely animals. I just adore my pets and spoil 'em rotten over winter, carrots and sweet potatos and cabbage etc... my ganders are so gentle with the geese, babies and me. I cant imagine a mean goose. Youd really have to tease one badly. I have raised hundreds of geese and never had a naturally mean goose yet. You are right they are harmonious and companionable.

  • This is awesome, totally awesome im astonished...

  • @theuberlol thanks- I love the geese and taking care of them correctly means a lot to me.

  • keep up the good work! nice to see a farmer with respect for their birds!

  • @londonirish1000 I know many farmers who love their birds- from turkeys to tiny quail. As well as cattle ranchers etc... who really care about their animals. I even know some who wont eat their own birds or cattle. Sadly, the farms everyone hears about are the factory farms, which arent even farms. And not where living creatures should reside.

  • My wife and I are seriously contemplating raising geese on a farm up here in northern Illinois. We would be selling to local stores and at farmers markets up here in the Chicagoland area. Just wondering is the market for goose products (meat, eggs & down) fairly large or does it take some convincing to persuade stores and potential customers to give it a try?

  • @supobostarman it appeals to a diverse group of people- in Chgo you will have a ready market with the "foodies"

  • what is the web site.

  • @ds200797 its up at the top of the page- cant seem to make it stick in this box!

  • I'm wondering whats the taste of goose, I would love to taste it one day. & when's the best time to eat goose?

  • @LBDannyBoy

Roast goose reminds me of a pork roast. Ours are not gamey, like wild geese can be. We are also selling smoked goose this year (which I have only just tried myself) and I have to say that I prefer it to the roasted goose.

It is a lot like a good quality ham in texture, the flavor is richer than ham tho. And what I really like about it is that the entire left over carcass can be used in a bean soup afterwards for a delicious winter soup. Delicious!

  • @tiliamay Ohhhh That's great! sounds good! hopefully i try it soon. ;)

  • Hey Connie, 400 birds this year? Woohoo, sounds like the business is moving along nicely.

I’m impressed with the video too. Great job of getting what you do before the public!

  • @flat0lander

Hey Jack! great to hear from you! Yes, maybe more next year! Hows life?

  • ive never heard it put so well... i have a bird farm in california... mainly chickens.. we do raise ducks, geese (sabastopol), turkeys, guineas also.... i have had two goslings imprint on me and am raising them now... "Breech" and "Peeps"... ive never experienced something that gives you that much satisfaction and be so exhausting at the same time.

  • I hear you about it being exhausting and rewarding. I too have chickens (Rhode Islands & Ameri-auricanas) a couple of Cuyuga Ducks and Guineas. The geese are my favorites- I love their intelligence and personalities.

Having a gosling imprint upon you is really an experience. Makes you understand why everyone's country Gramma had a pet goose that no one else could either stand or be near without a pinching. Gustav is my buddy.

  • @tiliamay ... at first i thought i would never get close to the geese as i was a stranger to them.. as the months have gone by they have accepted me quite well and i find myself becoming very 'goose' imprinted myself!! "blue-eyes" is a great example of my acceptance into 'goose' world and i find their intelligence quite amazing... i love your videos and am trying to use them to improve my own.. thank you for the great videos tillamay! hutch

  • I started with ducks but received a pair of geese for Mother's Day 3 years ago. I now raise African Geese here in the mountains of NW NC. I love them, they have so much personality. Thank you for your videos.

  • @ducksquackmeup

They are wonderful animals, arent they? I have 400 this yr for market and each one has it's own unique personality. They are just special creatures. As a sanity saver for myself, I pardon a few special ones each year and add them to the breeder group.

  • amazing... i love your farm.. thing is this spring im planning to buy 50 little gooses your video really inspired me gtting into this business... thank you

  • @yanikivanov Good luck with it as a business venture. It wont be as easy as I make it look!

  • Those are some beautiful dogs. Keep up the good work.

If you guys get the chance, join my group. Go to facebook and search "The Last of the American Farmers." And invite your friends!

  • @meleemaster1up Oh, Im glad you see how wonderful my dogs are! I couldnt do this without them. They are amazing. Belle is going into semi retirement this summer, just protecting the farmyard. Max is going into full time solo protection work with the geese and goats. I love them!

  • Haha. I am quite jealous.

  • @meleemaster1up Oh yeah, I did join your group last month!

  • Keep up the good work.. :-)

  • @nickglotus Thank you!

  • *****

  • Bravo. Every meat supplier should have a video like this. If we can't get a fresh Xmas goose locally (doubtful, but we're checking) we're ordering from you guys.

  • Thank You Ryan,

It's nice to know (from the farmer's perspective) that it does matter how we raise our animals. Selling to people who "care" means a lot to us as well.

  • Makes me want to get a goose out of the freezer for supper.. Nice Video..

  • Well thank you! I love my geese!

There is a great Emeril Lagassi (sp?) recipe on-line for Roasted Goose With Tawny Port Gravy. Really delicious.
