I thinks this guy is a GREAT Artist !! His singing is modern , no portamenti at all ... and his breathing is perfect but I also like his acting very much too .
I'd like to listen Rucker in Italians Theaters !!
All of U R correct...he is very good. But, there's 1 other true verdi baritone singing 2day that I think is just a bit better: JASON STEARNS!!! Check out his Scarpia here on Youtube. It's unbelievable! Stearns used 2sing @D MET by D way. Justino Diaz raved about him 2Domingo. But Domingo seemed 2not show much interest. Check out his "Te Deum" here on Youtube & see if U agree w/him.
Rucker is The Real Deal. I've heard the voice in several houses and it is a stunning sound. He has the total package : voice, art & drama. When I grow up, I want to sound like that! Rucker is one of the great living Verdi Baritones.
This is a deliciously intense, fierce performance. Rucker's voice is commanding, superbly Vedian, with excellent line and legato, and his theatrical infusion is in the league of Bruson and Cappuccilli. I am looking forward to hearing much of him, and, hopefully, to hear him in Toronto some day!!
I am SO happy you are using youtube to promote yourself. I just discovered you today and am entranced. I would love to hear you in Forza, especially in the big duet with a worthy partner. Too bad Tucker isn't around anymore :) Best Verdi baritone since Merill!
I love this man! He looks great on stage, sings like a god, and his musicality transcends most of the trash we've forced to listen to through mainstream media/opera.
When it's all said and done, Rucker will be noted (in the historic annals) as one of the greatest Verdian baritone of any generation.
That is the best Verdi singing I've heard in a long time. One question: WTF is up with the audience? That was amazing! Is this the show where they bussed in the old folks and middle schoolers? I mean really...
um Mr. Rucker, you know are you singing this to pieces! Amazing! I want to hear that cabaletta because I KNOW you sang the high Ab at the end! Sounding great! Courtney
Bravissimo! Mark is the real deal! I sang Schaunard to his Marcello at Opera Pacific back in the early 90's. Recently,he made his Met debut in 'Forza'.I'm also happy so say that Mr Rucker is also a very nice guy and extremely supportive colleage. Tanti Auguri!
I tottaly agree, Mark's voice is what we call a true Verdian Baritone, Hampson and Khvorostovsky's are fine musicians but with chamber-volumes and are miked during the performances so Met today prefer's fakes to real voices, that's a shame

Hello Mark,
My mother in law in Ladysmith Wisconsin raves about you to me all of the time and I see why.
You may remember B. Barg. She boasts that she spoke with you in her kitchen, HER very kitchen.
You sound absolutely fabulous Mark. Keep up the fantastic work you are doing to spread joy wherever you sing.

It's amazing to me with this guy around (and others) that the Met continues to cast Hampson and Dmitri Hvor in Verdi baritone roles!
