Pet owners will attest that animals seem to have emotions. However, scientists would argue that dogs are just feigning emotions (affection, shame, etc.) as social parasites in return for food and shelter. The arguments are convincing to me, but it must be remembered that wolves (the ancestors of dogs) are social animals that display the same emotions to their pack.
People, this guy is a loser. I came across this video because of it's title. It turned out to be a video I wasn't interested in. So I didn't rate it. But I did offer some criticism on his puncuation in the details and in his editing. I didn't expect his response to be a nice one like "Thanks". But now this guy is calling me "retard", "stupid fuck" and "motherfucker". And I haven't called him anything up until now. So don't waste your time on this guy. Give him a */*****, and move on.
"Basically, what I'm trying to say is this, Christians, science hurts everybody's closely held beliefs and feelings in its relentless pursuit of the truth about objective reality."
That's one sentence? I don't even really know what you're trying to say there.
Then you are retarded. Seriously, what is so hard to understand about the objective study of reality offending people's cherished beliefs and inner emotions? Either think of a counter example or learn English.
Eventually, the serotonin and oxytocin subside to normal levels and you are forced to decide if you can really tolerate your partner on a long term basis. For both my wife and me, the answer is "most of the time." It helps if you have something to concentrate on (kid, dog, political cause, etc.) other than each other's faults.
I was always pretty cynical about romantic "love," but am, admittedly, irrationally fond of dogs.
Actually, I'm not sure that the social differences in humans vs dogs has much to do with whether they expience emotions the way we do. My dog is very protective of my daughter, shows obvious exitement when we come home, gets sad when scolded... I think that our tool making skills may have gotten out of hand but I dont think that it has made us more emotional. Maybe more confused.
See, evolutionary science can hurt atheists' feelings too. You want to think your puppy is a little ball of fuzzy love, but it turns out he's just a parasite.
Unfortunately, the cold virus has to take its course.
Does premed mean you are a medical school undergraduate? Hurry up and work on your graduate courses so you can find a cure for the common cold. I bet you'll get a Nobel prize for it.
I'm a premedical tutor. As such, I'm not working on a cure for the common cold--although since I tutor lots of sick students, and get sick from them, a cure would be most welcome.
Animals have brains harboring minds, show emotions, which are a direct consequence of thought. Animals thoughts are emotion based rather than abstract and intellectual based. Any person or group which promotes ideas to the contrary is mistaken. "Instinct" is truly best assigned to the Plant Kingdom, though we animals have instincts as well.
Yes, but dogs do not have the same emotions as human beings. They see everything in the terms of pack hierarchy while humans see everything within the context of a clan hierarchy...
Wait, perhaps we're not so different:)
I don't care if my dog is a "social parasite," my wife and I treat him like our child.
pack = clan. Your dog is a member of your family... an adopted member. Your family is a clan, of sorts... and your family/clan is like the pack. Parasites give nothing in return... I'm sure you receive something you consider valuable from your doggy.
Besides affection, he provides the valuable service of keeping the squirrels in the neighborhood in their place (up in the branches of trees and off the lawn).
Seriously, our dog is a constant source of joy for my wife and I. He's definitely in a symbiotic and not parasitic relationship with us.
Your Jesus Christ had K-9 teeth?
And is that a bong or green beer bottle there?
Payce! (for it's not the peace but 'pay'ce the ancient family preachers and kings want!)
One more idea, yes, man's best friend, but you're thinking waaaay too hard about em'! Sheesh.
