  • No groove? It is fast, and it is hard to play fast. I can appreciate what the band did here. I also appreciate the technique of the percussionist closest to the brass section.

  • this sounds like garbage, so fast its stupid

  • THATS AT MY SCHOOL!!!!!!

  • this video also was not in any way sped up this is the actual tempo played at by these students

  • the song is played at tht tempo because it is the schools randition of the tune you'll notice tht not all the sections are from the original tune itself.

  • this is pretty awful

  • @protestxday I'm going into this school next year, and I know that this is the top jazz band in New Jersey, and that the school has 4 jazz programs. I've seen them up close, and they are a very good band. Anything wrong with it is the audio equipment.

  • @lpc315 This band is too fast (if you've heard the original version with the big phat band, I'm sure you would agree), pays very little attention to detail in blend (important for a big band sound), puts absolutely no effort into groove (which is fairly important to this song), the soloists are mediocre at best (while the vibraphone playing itself is impressive,

  • @lpc315 she puts no space into her solos, has very little harmony, and lacks the correct stylistic approach) , it is limited to two dynamic levels (pp and fffffffffff), the trombones are not heard (it's not the sound quality), and finally, the director looks like an idiot pacing back and forth, doing very little to aid the band. Is that enough wrong yet?

  • Woah... Way too fast. If I'm correct, I think the score says something like... uh... something slower than that. Not bad none the less though.

  • agreed! this is like the ADD version of this song. It seems almost comical. Your right, it's not bad my only complaint is the tempo. I've got a suspicion the video might have been sped up though.

  • strike my last remark. i don't think it was sped up.

  • It's in cut time, half note = 120

  • Not even Gordon Goodwin with the Big Phat Band takes it this fast. In jazz a symbol for cut time doesn't mean the same thing as in classical music. It just means the beat is not flat four.

  • Well if the music itself says half note = 120, why wouldn't the director take it that speed? I know what cut time is, I know the difference between classical and jazz.

  • That was only a suggestion. I have no idea what the music says so I'll take your word for it. However, seeing as every other 'rendition' of this song, including the one of the BFB with Gordon Goodwin, takes a tempo about half this video something is not right. Props on keeping it together at that speed though (and not slowing down much). Reminds me of the scene in Superstar when her parents get stomped to death because someone accidentally sped up the record.

  • I'm confused. When did music become a competition?

  • It's been a competition for ages...

  • Bummer.

Yet as the great Bela Bartok once said,

"Competition is for horses, not music."

  • I don't think that competition is bad for music. It's what drives people to push the limits. There is a line that should never be crossed and that's when players insult each other. It's all for the love of music. Even if you know that you sound better than someone, you shouldn't insult their efforts.

I'm reminded of a tempo i saw in region band. "As fast as possible, but no faster"(it was a gallop) Too fast, but that's your school's style. Some of the juicy parts don't come out at hyper speed.

  • Is this on fast foward or something hahaha wow i felt like my head was goin to explode!

  • nice trumpet solii

our band played both thesongs combined to make urs

  • alright buddy, that is where u are mistaken. we happen to be very proud that our B band won state finals and that our school got to experiences having two bands finish in the top two. And yes, u are right that they beat us fair and square, but we belive that the players and the director deserved it for all of their hard work this year. so, now that ur theory of being sour about losing to our B band is extinguished, would u mind saying who u are and wat right u have trying to put our band donw?

  • nice trumpet soli from jalepeno dreams lol

  • ok here's the thing bbqftw2, who are u anyway? and if we really wanted ur "expert opinion", maybe we would have asked u for it, but seeing as how u have nothing constructive to say, u probably shouldnt say anything at all. u people really need to get a life and stop trying to make urselves feel better by trying to trash us. wat have we done to u? anyone can feel free to answer, im all ears

  • qq more!! you're just cranky because your B band beat you fair and square at states

  • who is your timbale player?

    hes garbage

  • he's a senior @ da skool

he's not actually garbage but da reason why it sounds like it is coz of the bad sound quality of da camera and its on stage so there is da echoin & evrythin so da camera pick'd up only da loud notes
